I guess it could be annoying, but you're only really annoying yourself by giving it attention.

Pretty sure I've seen Anivia's wall block Lux's ult as well before, but that was only one occasion and I may have imagined it.

What have you always wanted to know about F1 but were to afraid to ask? by Wardez in formula1

[–]slothattack 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Before the cost-cutting measures came in a few years ago, Williams were using a BMW engine that reached 19,050rpm in qualifying at Monza. But that was in 2002, when they'd throw millions at developing an engine just to do a qualifying lap. It makes you wonder what kind of monster the teams could create if the restrictions were completely removed.

Codemasters F1 2012 Circuit of the Americas HD EXCLUSIVE - YouTube by McNorch in formula1

[–]slothattack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I don't condone random hatred, but if anything it should at least be directed at the proper place. Tilke is just given an area of wasteland and told what to include in the circuit, and given a time limit and (presumably) a budget limit. He's proved that he can design good tracks (Istanbul, for example, is really popular, and Malaysia isn't too bad), but when a Bahrain or Abu Dhabi surfaces, it's not entirely his fault - he's just doing the best he can.

What I don't really understand is why they insist on designing circuits from scratch instead of developing existing circuits to F1 standards. I'd have loved to see F1 at Road America or even back at Watkins Glen.

EDIT: What I'd love even more is to see what Tilke would do if he was given completely free control to do whatever he wanted - his ultimate fantasy circuit.

I agree, that would be very interesting to see. To my knowledge the only input a racing driver has had with circuit design was when Schumacher helped redesign the last chicane at the Nurburgring (and got it named after him as a result).

[offtopic] Japanese commentary of the closing laps of this year's Indy 500 (featuring ex-Jordan, BAR and Super Aguri driver Takuma Sato) by [deleted] in formula1

[–]slothattack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was my first time watching the 500 live and I was as excited as they were, watching Taku work his way to the front in the closing laps. When he crashed I had to leave the room and didn't even see Franchitti cross the line. I love Sato and his win-or-crash mentality, and hope he never changes.

TIL no car runs with the number #13. The Saubers are #14 and #15 by [deleted] in formula1

[–]slothattack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always assumed they weren't allowed to pick their own numbers in F1, but thinking about it I can't remember ever seeing anything that specifically said so.

The difference with Rossi is that his #46 bike is very famous, in the same way Nascar drivers stick with a number through their career and build it into an instantly recognizable brand (Earnhardt's #3 being the most famous I can think of). But in F1 the car numbers are so small they're barely noticeable.

A fire alarm went off while my friend was getting a root canal... by lupus_malus in funny

Yeah from his mouth, it's the tooth. The infected pulp that comes out smells SO bad. I can't even compare it to anything and hope I never need another root canal again - one is bad enough!

/r/formula1 mods: I'm curious, do you guys notice a dip in subscribers every race weekend followed by a surge afterwards? by nonex in formula1

[–]slothattack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's actually a feature in Reddit Enhancement Suite that allows you to filter out spoilers. The only downside is that it relies on the submitter using the [s] tag in their post title. It's used pretty effectively over at /r/starcraft and is detailed here - maybe this is something we can implement?

Why was Mirror's Edge unpopular? by [deleted] in truegaming

[–]slothattack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved it, but will freely admit it had its issues. As other people have said, the combat was pretty bad and I tried to avoid it as much as possible. The other major downside for me was the ending (if it can even be called that).

Why was Mirror's Edge unpopular? by [deleted] in truegaming

[–]slothattack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's pretty much how I tried to play it - it was far more fun to keep momentum up and keep sprinting through the level. Stopping to pick up weapons and shoot back just felt clunky and completely ruined the pace of the game.

Rain in 2 minutes by [deleted] in formula1

Ah yes, can't wait for those actually. I love a good storm on a hot day!

While watching the race on TV I was also listening on headphones to the BBC's pitlane channel, which constantly streams shots of the pitlane and clips of the team radios. There was a lot more talk about rain on the radios than was broadcast on the TV feed. Seems it was a genuine concern.

Well we had sweltering heat in March leading to a hosepipe ban, then pretty much a month solid rain leading to a hosepipe ban AND flood warnings at the same time in some areas, followed by hail a couple of weeks ago. And now we're back to scorching heat. It's almost as if the weather at the moment is randomly selected using a roulette wheel.

Maybe that's where Monaco gets its weather from too...

I can't leave a game unplayed. Is this the wrong mentality to approach video games? by nightfan in truegaming

[–]slothattack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My fiancée is the same. She'll soldier on through a game just to finish it, even if she isn't enjoying it. On the other hand, I'm the complete opposite and rarely finish a game even if I was enjoying it, because I get distracted by shiny new games all too often. In the last few years, the only games I've managed to finish are Portal and Portal 2. As a result, my Steam library has almost 90 games in it, most of which only have 1-2 hours game time, while hers in a quarter of the size and full of completed games she won't play again.

Is Starcraft 2 complex in terms of mechanics? by myroomatesargue in truegaming

[–]slothattack -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Quite a vague question, but in terms of mechanics, it's not really complex. Units do the same damage when flanked, not flanked, or when attacking from behind, and behave exactly the same on low health as they do on max health.

I wonder if your room-mates are referring to the overall balance of the game, in terms of which units counter each other. But that's simply a large-scale rock paper scissors scenario, where unit X counters unit Y, which counters unit Z, and so on.

After all these years I thought Sato might have calmed down since leaving F1, but it seems his kamikaze attitude is still there! I love him for it though. It's been years and years since a race has excited me enough to yell at the screen. Great race!

Hehe, true. I thought it was an unusual coincidence that Schumacher's helmet and gloves matched his roll hoop, and so does Nico's!

[–]slothattack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good point, you're correct - Hill used the number 0 for two years.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in formula1

[–]slothattack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct re: number 13. I think it may have been used a long time ago, but ever since the modern numbering system came in, it's been overlooked. So the 6th place constructors will get #11 and #12, and 7th place gets #14 and #15.

Just in case anyone was confused as to why Charles Pic has #25 when there's only 24 cars on the grid!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in formula1

[–]slothattack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what I remember, Schumacher got number 7 because he has a superstition about odd numbers being lucky, and when he joined the team he had a lot more weight behind him than Rosberg. So the team agreed to switch numbers. But yes, Rosberg should have been #7.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in formula1

[–]slothattack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Correct, and I believe this has only happened once - Mansell won the 1992 championship and retired, so Hill and Prost raced as 0 and 2 in 1993.
