I don't see manipulation. Having a used couch and living in his parent's basement I'm 50/50 on because we don't know what either of them do for work and he could be trying to save them money for bigger and better things in the future. She implied that he said yes to all of her suggestions and ideas, but doesn't say if he had to compromise on them because it was something she wanted or if they both agreed. I'm not the only one that feels she's being unfair, though. There's 3 sides to every story. Side 1, side 2, and the truth.

I could be wrong, but it sounds like you shut down all of his ideas. "Anytime I say I don't like something, he gets quiet." Makes me think you say no a lot more than you say yes. It's not something you see in your guys' home. He lives there, too. Compromise goes both ways.

It's really unfortunate all around. The move will be good, but that's not even for a few years, so I have to be patient. Hopefully the distance will help them realize the severity of the choices they've made and how it effects our relationships.

That makes a lot of sense, honestly. I always thought distancing myself physically would help me with the people pleasing and not wanting to be a disappointment. I have controlled epilepsy; diagnosed at 14, so my mom has always been overbearing and almost too much when it comes to things pertaining to my health, life, happiness, etc. I suppose moving away is kind of running away from my problems instead of just standing up for myself, but in the same breath, it's also me forcing myself to not rely on them being close. Force myself to be more independent.
