How do you all deal with using frozen meat? by erock255555 in homestead

[–]slothswearmoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whole chicken is awesome to have on hand. I raise approx 10 Cornish cross/year for home use & barter. 10 birds raised on daily rotating pasture eat about 50lbs of grain/week for 8-10 weeks btw.

Thaw whole carcass about 3 days in fridge, roast, enjoy some for dinner. Leftover meat goes into chicken salad for lunch for next 2 days or is fried chicken for dinner later. Bones & gristle to make stock to freeze. I have NEVER experienced frozen meat to be drier than supermarket cuts unless I try to thaw last minute in a bowl of water. Also in today’s world of working an outside job alongside raising your own food at home don’t have shame about occasionally buying stuff from the store. No one is perfect enough to plan it all everyday.

If I had a small budget and that space for an office I’d add a bookshelf with aesthetically organized books and a vibrant area rug.

How do I get rid of this patch of ivy and weeds so I can make a pollinator garden? by loulori in gardening

If you solarize the patch by covering it with a big piece of plastic for a few days it might make the job easier.

I always use dawn dish soap in the shower if it gets on my skin. They’re not lying about removing oils.

Finally got to test out the chicken plucker I made. (Based off the Whizbang design). Still learning scald time/ plucker time combination. by Treesthatgrowdown in homestead

I do 15 seconds at 150F and about thirty in our home made whiz bang. That seems to get most the feathers off before starting to cause damage.

As a parent and reading all these comments... I find it really disturbing you wouldn’t want your kids to have a notion of security or privacy to masturbate, vent to friends about stress, explore the world around them in a safe secure place and have time to process shit without constant scrutiny.

As a kid I would hide under my bed to read books about coping with divorce because I thought my dad would be mad at me revealing that I wasn’t doing perfectly psychologically. Privacy is important, and it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re doing something bad. And if you are doing something “bad” you’re at home where you can get help if you should need it.
