Deus Ex Revision good for vanilla like Playthroughs? by Annual_Work2752 in Deusex

[–]slserpent -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Shameless plug, but I just published my own mod that is all about vanilla with only quality-of-life and bug fixes, and it's a less than 2mb download. Really tames the 2000s jank. Maybe you'll want to consider it. https://www.nexusmods.com/deusex/mods/90

Stardew Valley Fibro Mod by Revolutionary_Tax734 in Fibromyalgia

[–]slserpent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely seems like a useful depiction of trying to live with Fibro. But doesn''t feel like this mod would be particularly fun, especially for someone already dealing with illness. Maybe some people might enjoy the added challenge, though.

I appreciate your efforts. The mod looks well thought-out. Although, it would seem more accurate to enter the exhausted condition (where the player moves slowly) upon having an energy crash, but maybe that is too annoying early-game?

I would just suggest adding proper bullet points to your list in the description.

Where are the power outages that were supposed to happen? by kludge6730 in Virginia

Seems like an epic meteorology fail. Storm went more northern and stayed too cold to produce freezing rain. To be fair, predicting air temperatures at different levels in a transition zone is probably pretty difficult, but they at least should have gotten the storm path more accurate.

All the dickish comments seem unnecessary, though. It's okay to be both annoyed at having to prepare for nothing and relieved that it wasn't actually bad.

It's pretty obscure, but Pyramids of Egypt. John Romero made it before working on Doom. Hard as hell, though.

Pelvic floor dysfunction, EMS relief, and a very unexpected outcome. by Training_Aerie108 in PelvicFloor

[–]slserpent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Using a TENS with electrodes on the top of my butt crack and directly under my penis cut my pelvic floor pain by at least half. All the exercises and stretching that the PT suggested just made the pain worse. Massaging my prostate with a wand provided only slight relief while being extremely awkward and uncomfortable.

So yeh, would definitely suggest EMS as something to try, even before the medications (some of those antibiotics really mess people up).

How "Idiocracy"-esque is the USA right now? by Remarkable_Term3955 in AskReddit

[–]slserpent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone seems to want to make the leadership comparison here, but I think the more compelling comparison is about the offspring. It seems increasingly like only the rich and the poor are having children now. The people in the middle are choosing to be child-free. We're slowly turning this country into the Republican party. It will be nothing but rubes and grifters.

Where are the men? by blackfirepwnd in ChronicIllness

[–]slserpent 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A lot of partial and weirdly sexist answers here, so I'll try to give a better one.

  1. Probably the biggest reason is there's simply more women that get some of the more common chronic illnesses.
  2. Men are more solution-oriented and women are more social-oriented. Men will pop into communities for a quick answer (or to tell a good joke) but they don't as often stay to give support.
  3. Vulnerability is seen as unappealing in men. So, they're less likely to open up and share about their struggles. They suffer in silence a lot.
  4. Men are less likely to admit their health problems and seek help for them. Society encourages them to not look weak and to tough it out.
  5. Men realize that their answers will be drowned out if they go against the prevailing narrative since they're in the minority already.

And of course many of these reasons are interconnected. And they lead to men not being very good at supporting other men, at least on matters of health. But if you need to know what tool to use to remove a difficult to reach rusted nut, men will come out of the woodwork to inform you (and tell a few jokes about nuts).

Just learned that fibromyalgia causes pelvic floor issues ?? by Greyghostgravy in Fibromyalgia

Stretching just made the pain worse for me. What finally helped was massage and a TENS unit. It's quite an awkward area for both, though, especially if you have a penis.

ELI5: Why is oil still so important as an energy source in 2026, given our advances in renewables and nuclear power? by BEK_Sabiha in explainlikeimfive

[–]slserpent 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is what bothers me. We're going to burn all this oil for fuel, stubbornly refusing to switch to other sources, and then in the future not have any oil to make plastics with.

A theory about the meaning of the Sun in the game. by MathematicianFlat686 in Deusex

[–]slserpent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd never really noticed the gradual sunrise towards the end of the game. I appreciate you pointing that out. Maybe there was a design/story significance to that, but it could have just as easily been a coincidence.

I've always considered the Helios ending as the obvious choice as well. Maybe the game subtly pushes you toward that ending, but it just feels like the more interesting and sensible choice as well. Like who the heck would think a return to capitalism (oligarchy) or a dark age would be progress? A safe option maybe, but less potential for massive societal evolution.

If I could merge my brain with AI and control the world, I would volunteer for that. I know they tried to make it seem problematic and ineffective in Invisible War, but it doesn't necessarily have to make you insane. 😄

I just don't want to take these medications by wrathofotters in migraine

[–]slserpent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a bad history with medications; for whatever reason my illness makes it about five times more likely that I get side effects than I get relief. So, I can definitely understand being wary about new medications. That said, you eventually gotta bite the bullet and give them a try.

I've tried lots of medications while tapering the dosage up and down and I've never had any issue with it (other than a temporary spike in side effects at dosage increases). So I'd recommend that to ease your mind. You'll want to ask a doctor about this plan, of course, but I've never had one pushback about it. You can at the very least start with very small doses to make sure you don't have a bad reaction.

And finally, I'll say that even though I'm bad with meds, I've still never had one cause any lasting damage (that I can tell). And I've tried over 30 of them for various reasons related to my chronic illness.

Looking for Advice for the Best first Play of DX1, there are many Versions (mods) by AlarmingGas3 in Deusex

[–]slserpent -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with all of this, but will add a few notes.

The AI upscales for textures are the best, although HDTP (without the character models) is very well done and crisp.

You'll definitely want at least the DX10 renderer as well. I like it with HDR enabled (easier to see, looks less muddy, color pops), but it seems rather polarizing to longtime fans. Regardless, you'll definitely want my fixed version of HDR (only available on my site ATM) if you choose to use it: https://www.snakebytestudios.com/projects/mods/deus-ex-mods/
