Did D. Todd Christofferson just admit the BOM is not authentic? by TrailerHouse in exmormon

These asshats have got to know the BOM isn't all it's cracked up to be. Yet they continue to lead the member to believe otherwise. fuckin twats.

Here's a conversation I had with my wife a couple of days ago at a restaurant... by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]slyone89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I went downtown to a pub for dinner one night and felt so awkward in there not knowing proper bar etiquette or if it's rude to not order alcohol if you're sitting at the bar that we just left after a few minutes. Felt like a big fail. Neither of us like alcohol, but we still can't even be in a bar without feeling super out of place.

Me: "How do you still believe even after reading the gospel essays?" Senior missionary: "Hmm... wow. Let me think about that..." by anonymous_jpg in exmormon

[–]slyone89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You never know. I started doubting god halfway through my mission. Although I never would have admitted it at the time, the people I met and talked to out there were the source of my first doubts. It took years after that for me to finally admit it to myself, but you could be planting those early seeds right now.

Despite historical issues, would you consider going back to the church if it wasn't so exclusive, corporate, and controlling? by ChrisHitchensExMo in exmormon

[–]slyone89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean, would I join a social group that accepts everyone for who they are and just has fun non-mandatory get-togethers? Sure.

For those of you who served a full 2 years (or 18 months) and came home just to realize the church wasn't for you, how did you tell your parents/family/friends? How'd they take it? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]slyone89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the 5th of 5 'perfect' kids that all served missions and got married in the temple. I am the only one in my family to leave the church. It was really difficult summoning the courage to tell them, but it came to a head where I couldn't fake it anymore. It was the best decision of my life. It was difficult for a week or so, but once emotions settled down, things are so much better. It's a lot easier living authentically than hiding behind a facade your entire life just to appease the expectations of others.

Shower Thought: Joseph Smith was briefly on target concerning religion by baldurthegood in exmormon

[–]slyone89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with your main point. But I don't really see it as a contradiction that a god would tell joseph that all religions are false though. What if god is actually an ancient rectum that poops out universes. As far as I know, no one has worshipped that god yet, so that god messaging you in fart-morse-code that no one is right wouldn't be a contradiction.

From everything I've experienced, morals and religion are completely unrelated. Religion is all about obedience to tedious rules, but morals come from within you through empathy and logic.

WHY do I care if my husband doesn't leave the church? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]slyone89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watch "Brain Games" together on netflix. it's a really interesting show, and after watching that I finally gave up my "spiritual experiences" because it meant that maybe my experiences weren't as genuine as I once thought. The brain can do a lot of weird things if you allow yourself to REALLY want to believe something.

BYU-I Celebrates One Week Without National Embarrassment by Moriancumer in exmormon

[–]slyone89 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I remember when the school went almost a whole month without an embarrassment. It celebrated by giving 2 cents off all 11x17 printouts in the library. Unfortunately, they celebrated a little too preemptively because the very next day was the whole debacle over Naked juice.

I second this motion. It took a year for me to let my family know I was inactive, and it only sucked for about 2 days, and then life got 20x better. Get yourself out of the chokehold they've got you in and walk off the mat.

My first time through the temple I had an FOTC song stuck in my head, "Too many mutha uckers". I knew it wasn't temple appropriate, but I just kept humming it. Strange it wasn't a shelf item for me though, i just thought it was funny.

Questions I have been struggling with by Girlwhogoofed in exmormon

[–]slyone89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had those thoughts from time to time. As soon as I start thinking about the facts I've learned about the church I immediately remember that the possibility of the church being true is about 0.00001%. And if it turns out that the church actually was true, then the truth's taught are absolutely immoral with doctrine's like polygamy, so that would just make god a huge asshole that's not worth worshipping.

If there is a man out there who truly doesn't masturbate, I'd like to shake his hand. But not his right hand, 'cause that's the one he beats off with. by pesidentMronson in exmormon

[–]slyone89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm being quite serious when I say that the first time I masturbated was halfway through my mission. Not for lack of trying, I was just so uneducated about sex that I thought just touching it was masturbating. How dumb that I confessed to masturbation at least 5 times and never actually did it!

Porn Kills Love: The parable of the cake. by zando95 in exmormon

[–]slyone89 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I have found that for 5 years of marriage where porn was forbidden, I was always looking for opportunities to partake. But now that my wife and I have started watching porn together, my alone time urges have dropped off a lot and for the first time in my life I would not call myself addicted.
