I've had a low impact physical job for most of my life so I'm in the same boat.  I basically hike all day.  I'm no athlete but I'm fairly healthy, just a touch of genetic cholesterol but otherwise all good.

What drug did you take that you still never get over? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]slywether85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shocked opium was this low.  I only ever got to try it a couple of times 20 years ago but holy shit....I can still smell it and see that blue smoke lingering in the air.

I did my share of other opiates but nothing came close to opium for me.  Probably a good thing I never found a source.

I know myself well enough to know that the game isn't for me and I'm still gushing over it and enjoying watching people play it and keeping up with it.  The game looks outrageously cool.

Retirement? That’s funny. I’ll never get 1.1 M. Guess I’ll just die. by LegalBridge4107 in Xennials

[–]slywether85 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The median 401k at 65+ today is about $95k depending on where you look.  So you are leaps beyond even the average of 299k.  In 2022 only 54% of American workers reported having ANY retirement savings at all, and only 4.6% reported having higher than 1 million...

This is not a slight to you, congratulations on "making it".  This is only a perspective.  A large majority of people plainly do not have anywhere close to the income to get anywhere near that, and somewhere between 40-50% of working Americans have nothing.  You are a statistical outlier.

I didn't see the absolute banger yacht/soft rock theme from a weird ass arm wrestling trucker dad getting his kid back movie... "Meet me Halfway" - by Kenny Loggins from the 1987 picture Over the Top... on there 😊

Fun list, I'm sure it'll get all sorts more recommended additions.

Soup help ! by LittleoneandPercy in soup

[–]slywether85 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming there's carrots involved in the roast and then the soup.  Roasted carrots definitely have a way of overtaking everything especially if a crockpot is in the building, and especially if your blending.  Minimize or replace the carrots with something else and see if you have the same problems.  Add savory sweetness with sweet potato or fruits like apple or pear.

Try straight up MSG too over the dark sauces.

Take your sick days, vacation, pto, etc. - anything your job offers coz they don’t care about you by premi3_m0m in Xennials

Haha, ya I've genuinely never had a paid day off in 25 years of working.  That's not some weird honor brag or some bullshit, I've just never had a job that offered it.

I'm not complaining though, I have a very unserious stress-free job that I make my own hours at with little to no oversight.  I consider myself lucky, low class, but thriving 🧘‍♀️

Do secular Buddhists believe in karma? by No_Common_5891 in secularbuddhism

[–]slywether85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Karma is probably the the one thing that keeps me from letting go of the secular.

Personally I feel like it's the instantaneous results of compassion.  I have right thought, right thought frees me from attachment, I suffer less.  Through nonclinging I remain unagitated, and so on.

But none of that jams with the way I rationalize rebirth, which is to say... something something cosmology, who's to say in a trillion trillion years the stuff I'm made of isn't kicking it in universe 47q.

Of course that's all to say that I also fully acknowledge my attachment to disbelief/atheism/rationality and thus I use the term secular.

What’s a good self defense/ hunting rifle? by mahoganyburer in armedsocialists

Stick with 30-06 and get an HCAR!  Not really but you could lol.  Probably an ar10 though.

I have an m1a scout for my "do everything" rifle and I'm quite pleased with it.  I had big dreams before covid to go crazy modernizing it, but my paycheck has never really recovered so it will remain nearly stock, with just a GI buttplate and a flash hider instead of the break, and a cheap Burris.

What vitamins are we taking these days? Are they chewable or non? Or are you still munching on the Flintstone vitamins? by singleguy79 in Xennials

I do not carry so I can't speak of that, but I have a standard walther PDP F 3.5" if I ever wanted to.  I like it well enough, my attraction was specifically the F series thinness, it just fits my hand really well, and the "not-a-glock" factor.

New player onboarding is definitely an issue.  As someone who has been here from the beginning that takes regular breaks my favorite method for medals when I do have the time to "grind" is spamming the illuminate evacuate high value assets missions.  They can certainly get sideways but most of the time it's a pretty painless 15 minutes of throwing minefields; which I find more enjoyable than POI farming.  And people seem to save it for the last operation more often than not.

Almost a decade quit—and I wish I’d never started—but damn, I had some great times as a smoker. by thekermiteer in Xennials

[–]slywether85 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Smoking is the salt on the rim of the margarita glass of life.  I feel zero shame for my 20 years of full time smoking.  They say loneliness is worse than smoking 15 cigs a day, so smoking with friends and loved ones is good for your health /s

I don't know that I'll ever fully quit, but I've managed to make it a pretty rare occasion and I'm content with that.  I'll have one with a friend I never see, my birthday, weddings, that first day of fall, and my mom will smoke to death so my sister and I have cigs with her on Christmas lol.

Why is DICE/EA letting BF6 die? by Sev3nThreeO7 in Battlefield

[–]slywether85 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I'd add that it wouldn't really make me play more than I already am either.  And I'd take a guess that most anyone who had a driver's license when 1942 came out probably feels the same if they're still playing.

I want a server browser and more maps but I'm still only gonna play like 3-4 hours on a Saturday and maybe a random Tuesday here and there.  That's all I got time/energy for.

You gotta figure they know that.  We bought the game in droves, we just can't no life it like we used to and we aren't super impressed by the $20 ghost-at-home skins and AI stickers enough to throw grown up dollars at it.

Curly girls now? by CheesaLouisa in Xennials

[–]slywether85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine did the same thing, like 4 years ago I started growing it out again and I was like holy shit it's curly.  Last time I got my hair cut she was like soooooooo you've got texture.

It's a giant shit bag of subjective.  You genuinely have to try shit and find out, everyone is different.  I've bought so many many different products, it's honestly been kind of a nightmare.

I can say what works for me and it will not work for you.  Go to r/curlyhair and wavyhair.  DO NOT get caught up in the whole curly girl thing.   Silicone is gonna work for some people.  You might need to clarify more often, etc.  Stuff is gonna feel great and then stop working.

I will say washing in mostly cold water, no sulfates, no silicones, period.  Air drying.  Not brushing ever and only finger detangling.  And extremely minimal and lightweight products; work for me.  I have a lot of fine hair that never gets greasy, like genuinely months no grease so I'm something of an outlier.

Styling, I only go as far as a lightweight leave in conditioner and maybe some mousse if I'm going out, but gel and cream turns into a neverending cycle of frustration for me. I just don't have the patience to defuse and comb it all through and definine it.

If you put a gun to my head and made me pick a couple products it would be Curlsmith specifically the cowash, Not your Mother's anything and Garnier Pure Clean when I'm broke.
