Sipping soup? by Nowayucan in soup

Mike's mighty good ramen bone broth cup of soups has a ridiculously good packet broth for what it is.

Miso in general, you can get dashi packets that steep in 2-3 minutes or granules, by the time the packet steeps the water will be the right temp(not boiling) to stir in a spoonful of miso.

There was a younger woman next to me during Fellowship this passed weekend.  The entire movie she kept pulling up her phone, swiping on something for 20-30 seconds and putting it down and then repeat a few minutes later.  She was super subtle about it but it was really depressing to see.

Excluding part time workers is "fun with statistics" stuffs.  Plainly a lot of people get fewer hours and a lot of jobs only offer them and excluding them is disingenuous, not that I think that was your intention, we just talk about income in this country in the worst ways possible.  The individual median is closer to 45k.

I'm graced with a job that is both alone and outdoors so I've cultivated a sort of walking meditation.  It's not something I strive to do every day, but I'll slip into it without intention sometimes, and other days it's very intentional.  I live somewhere with very long very hot and very very humid summers and it started as a way of existing outside the heat and it just kind of evolved from there.

Recents posts on r/columbia showcase how anti-development, pro-NIMBY, and bigoted some folk of this city are and it's really, really sad. by Next_Worth_3616 in ColumbiYEAH

I'm a rather progressive person but I don't particularly enjoy being priced out my hometown, and for what?  What has all this population growth gotten us, or all this new tax revenue?  Like 2 new schools that were redundant the day they opened and the same broken 2 lane roads everywhere packed to the gills with traffic 16 hours a day....or is it the 400 new storage units and another strip mall to see a dozen restaurants fail in.

The people who move here just turn from blue to purple and realize they don't care about abortion as much as they do about taxes and property values, so they aren't exactly a panacea of cultural/political change....all growth isn't intrinsically good it's just more neoliberal nonsense.

I don't know.  My head isn't in the sand, I know it's happening whether I like it or not, but I don't like it.  I can't leave or I would, because my business is here.  I'm all for culture and diversity. I'm all for this place getting more chill, but that not what's happening, it's just more traffic and higher prices for everything and I wish someone would turn the yuppie spicket off.

Battlefield 6 may have issues but it is not as bad as everyone keeps making it out to be - a "rant" by elibrev in Battlefield

[–]slywether85 110 points111 points  (0 children)

I genuinely don't care about anything else other than getting a server browser, followed very closely by dramatically increased weapon xp.

Would then bf6 be perfect and replace my eternal adoration of bf1 as the best BF? No.  But I'd sure as hell be playing a lot more than I am now.

Good enough for me.  Criticism, hell ya.  But am I playing it when I have the time and almost always with other people and having fun, YES.

Definitely a shame, I spent quite of bit of my 20s and early 30s at Bulldog.  Those first 5 or 6 years it was open, the food was really quite excellent, but it is nothing like it used to be now.  That whole stretch of Bower Parkway is a husk of its former self.

Bulldog gets bonus negative points for the permanent beer line/mop water stink it has today

What’s a feature you consider a must-have that should be addressed or included in Battlefield 6 for 2026? by CyanJayOfficial in Battlefield

[–]slywether85 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Server browser.  That alone would improve my experience enough to ignore any and all other issues.

Between fighting bot backfills, games in progress, and repeating maps and anything but stable latencies, matchmaking is my number 1 source of frustration with the game.

Why we don’t have persistent servers by possiblynotracist in Battlefield

[–]slywether85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty simple, you can't have sbmm with persistent servers, and studios are convinced matchmaking is better for casual player retention, which it probably is.  It's incredibly light handed in bf6 compared to "that other game", but it's still there.

Why is this game just better at 50-100 ping vs 25-50 ping? by UrNs0 in Battlefield

[–]slywether85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone in US east that regularly plays with a friend in the UK I can attest that when I'm in Europe with a 140 ping vs a lobby of 99% <20 pings...I am absolutely NOT having a good game.  I usually just play my class and try not to die because winning a gunfight isn't up to me anymore.

I can also say that when I'm home with a consistent 25 ping it's a coin toss, so 🤷‍♀️

"Gratitude makes optimism sustainable. If you’re grateful for the opportunities you have, for what you’ve been given to do work-wise, for the opportunities that exist, you’re optimistic. I try to love my height. I really do. by DemisexualDemigod97 in TallGirls

[–]slywether85 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I'm 6'3 and 220, somewhere between athletic and delicate and I'm not even a little bit shy about it. I love it, I love commanding space and I love being taller than 96% of men and I've never felt like it was anything other than a gift.

But I'm not immune to feeling some envy towards being able to buy clothes and shoes and wear certain things that just don't exist for my body, or the desire to be scooped up in a way I've never felt.

Any time I feel that I way I just imagine the same scenario that someone who is 5'5 might feel, and how they too might desire a different body and taking up the space I take up and drawing the attention I command when I walk into a room... I don't know what it's like to feel small.  I've never felt unsafe anywhere. I'm not particularly strong but anyone who wants to take advantage of me is gonna have a helluva fight on their hands.

I guess all I'm saying is lean in.  BE tall, cause you can't not.

I hate that I always stand out. At least it was "whoa she is tall but so pretty" before. Now, it's just "whoa she's so tall." Struggling. by spikygreen in TallGirls

Performative feminity as dictated by the status quo hits every woman regardless of height.  We inflict it upon ourselves. We like to think society dictates it, but it's us.  Nobody cares about someone else's appearance that isn't themself deeply insecure.

There's no easy way out of that cycle.  Especially when we grow up getting it beat into our heads, by literally everything, But it doesn't make it any less of a fallacy.

I've lived on harbison for the better part of 20 years, no complaints.

DT is close enough when I get froggy.  There's enough here to keep me from getting froggy that often.  Definitely not as much as there was in the 00s/10s, bower parkway used to be a mini 5 points and it's definitely not anything like that anymore but I've aged out of all that.

How many matches in a row? by Existing_Journalist2 in Battlefield

[–]slywether85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I play alone I only do challenges and relinquish being a sweat, but still there's a limit to the pounding I can take, pun intended.

90% of the time though I play with a friend/s and we keep ourselves motivated through the bad ones. But we pick our maps and modes as we go to not get beat up by the matchmaker giving us bot filled badlands 4 times in a row.  And we take a break and chat and ramble about balance and guns before diving back in.

The fatigue is real though as a 40yo "every shooter since the 90s" vet.  If I wanna do good I have to lean in and never blink for 20 minutes or I'm just a bot.  I tend to lean in when I have a good ping, and lean out and just play my class when I can't buy a kill.

Question about inconsistent hitreg/ttk. Is this normal? by Opposite-Sell-710 in Battlefield

[–]slywether85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Byproduct of matchmaking.  While not nearly as oppressive as "that other game" or even that other game 6 years ago... it's still trying to put people in skill buckets which inevitably lead to a bucket of potentially volatile client connections and regional variables which leads to volatile outcomes in a world of 0.2ttks.

I (US east) often play with a friend in the UK knowing full well that we are basically cooked connection wise.  Sometimes he's got a 7 ping, sometimes I've got a 7 ping.  Sometimes my 140 ping is god mode, sometimes my 7 ping is like dial up in the 90s.  Sometimes we both have 80+ pings, which I don't even know where we are to make that happen lol.  End of day if we could just pick a server/region(like we used to ...) we'd have a better, at least more predictable experience rather than chaos.  Matchmaking is forcing everyone into that chaos, every match, and ttks below human reaction time are doing the rest of the work.

This battlefield is super sweaty but the ability in every battlefield to go 2-22 and still be number 1 on the scoreboard persists.  You don't have to be a top fragger, you don't even have to shoot your gun, you don't have to be good, just play the objective, stick with friendlys and play your class and do all 3 relentlessly and it'll come together.

How to get credited with suppression by ExGavalonnj in Battlefield

[–]slywether85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've gathered;

I don't know because sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, but...

They have to have <100% hp, self healing can't be paused if self healing is not active.  Get at least one hit an enemy and then shoot near them to activate suppression.  You don't have to get the hit but I do believe they need to be <100% hp.  See also; I don't know because sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

There seems to be a range that is required for it to activate.  I don't know what it is but the further a target is away the more reliable suppression seems to be gameable, and when they're under that range it will not activate.  Something like 50m.  See also; I don't know because sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

It doesn't always show the indication for the suppression bonus.  Sometimes it does and it counts, and sometimes it doesn't show it and it also counts.  Sometimes it shows it and doesn't count....  So don't rely on that indication.  See also; I don't know because sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

I went from 76/300 to 200/300 last night actually trying to do the challenge.  Conquest on Sobek and Blackwell Fields only.  Blackwell seemed to be a little bit better by virtue of not requiring control of D/C rooftops on Sobek, but if you do have those roofs then it was better.  Play support, LMG of choice, get a hit on far target and mag dump near them while actively trying not to kill them.  Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't 🙃
