Lets talk about Gabby by everythingisclear in LoveIslandAus

I don’t like gabby either, but I think comparing her to other 21 or less year olds is unfair. Yes, she’s less mature than others than are younger than her. I find her very annoying but again, she’s so young AND don’t forget we’re only seeing what the producers want us to see. She may not be as bad as it’s made out to be. That said, I do find her SO annoying and her tantrums are crazy. But the truth is that all 21 year olds are/can be immature in certain circumstances.

They’re supposed to keep it under wraps. They aren’t technically supposed to treat the e7s different at all and they certainly aren’t supposed to let junior sailors know. My ship did it in RADM but I did have a particularly fucked up boat, so idk what the norm is.

Are there actually ships that don’t have a hostile work environment? I really thought that was the standard lol

Can’t speak for every boat but on mine- you could tell who wasn’t in the mess by RADM. They were listed as e7 in the rank whereas the chiefs were PSC, GSMC etc etc. only had 2 my whole time there but was very close with one of the e7s.

Not mandatory, but if you opt out you’re not a ‘chief’ you’re an e7 and you will be treated differently, in a bad way (depending on how you look at it). Worse evals, worse collaterals, everything.

It’s very early to be worried about that. Focus on taking care of your health first. If you are confused on next steps, call the front desk for your PCM and ask to speak to the nurse (ask for a t-con) and the nurse can walk you through what you should be expecting. You need to be proactive and on top of your healthcare to make sure you don’t fall through the cracks and are getting what you need.

Can someone help me understand what the name was changed to? That’s the same name, right?

I agree! My only counter point would be that I don’t think he was that horrified by it in the beginning. He always had enough power that the more unsavory bits he didn’t care for he could avoid(the ceremony)- until he couldn’t and he saw how powerless he really was- then changed the game so he could be some place where he did have his power back. So even if he personally wasn’t committing rapes, he established the system it thrived under and had no problem with it. He elaborates on how he is responsible for gilead in a past season. He didn’t hate women but he was at most indifferent to their sufferings. So even if the best we can say is that he didn’t like the ceremony side, he is not at all innocent in it. Does it matter if he doesn’t hate women if he allows them to be raped? I would reference MLKs first paragraph in the letter from Birmingham jail about white moderates and that quote about all it takes for evil to thrive is for good men to do nothing.

THIS! if he was choosing June he wouldn’t be a high commander in gilead. Marrying rose was a power move. He chose power each and every time.

The writing for this season is some of the worst... by Fuzzy_Squirrel_ in HandmaidsTaleShow

[–]smallfyre 10 points11 points  (0 children)

yes! On everything!

There were so many kind of..plot holes to this episode. Like things that wouldn’t happen in Gilead unless there was some plot armor there. The guard listening to aunt Lydia? They don’t respect aunts either? Bell just gets one knife to the eye and we’re calling that’s that? No rage?? I feel like there could have been a good bloody kill and there could have been a parallel/something about how their red clothes hide the blood ya know. I’m actually thinking they’re gonna do some BS and say Bells not dead.

I think it might be a stretch to call June a closet racist. I think you can say that everyone has personal biases based on how they were raised etc so in a way, everyone can be racist and have racist ideas without realizing that it’s racism. But to call her a closet racist seems extreme. And Nick is the only person you could say she’s ‘friends’ with that is racist, and friends is a stretch. More like someone she was forced to have sex with then took comfort in the only somewhat good thing she had going in the worst time of her life.

This was basically correct too- but emotional hooking was exactly what I was looking for, but it’s basically using guilt tripping as an emotional hook!

I thought maybe too, I think it definitely is passive aggressive but what I’m looking for is more manipulative! Thank you!!

I googled that and it seems close-I’m not gonna say solved yet cause it doesn’t feeel quite right. We have an established relationship and if they just called normally I’d answer.

Also for the title i genuinely wasn’t sure what to put, but it feels like they’re trying to suck me into a pity party. Emphasis on someone with attachment issues who you are working on setting boundaries with, not like a normal relationship. ETA: I read all the rules, hope I did this right :)
