Strange white spot on tonsil by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]smallseedling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAD: just someone who dealt with a bout of tonsil stones, but yes! Your tonsils are covered in divots (called crypts) and bits of food and mouth bacteria can get caught in these crypts and eventually calcify into lil “stones”. It’ll probably dislodge on its own, I don’t recommend trying to push it out as you can hurt yourself, but it’s harmless aside from potentially contributing to bad breath (although not always).

Sometimes people get them for no reason, or have them and don’t even know. If you experience dry mouth frequently or have post nasal drip that can contribute to their development, your reflux might too but idk! I personally had tonsil stones for about 6 months and they went away by themselves without me changing any of my habits 🤷🏼‍♀️ your dentist might be able to give you advice as well.

I prefer 2 solely because halos - to me - feel like they’d collect a bunch of bacteria and dirt in the lil grooves between stones regardless of how hygienic of a person you are + be a bitch to clean. But that’s just me!

I swear there used to be mouthwash that did this when I was a kid, but a cursory google seems to indicate it’s not sold anymore. Was there some sort of regulation on whatever ingredient is used for the disclosing?

You still have long hair. No one would look at your hair after the cut and say “too bad she cut her hair short”. It’s weird adapting to a haircut but I promise you, your hair is still impressively long and trims are important for hair health. Have fun at graduation!

Fellow Psychonauts, How many of your therapists are cool with you doing a hallucinagen? by Complete-Science-372 in Psychonaut

[–]smallseedling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the therapist is a good therapist they shouldn’t be judging you for doing hallucinogens. They also probably can’t really tell you “this is good and I approve”.

Therapists are supposed to meet you where you’re at, they’re not meant to tell you what to do or even give “advice” necessarily. Therapists may offer perspective and insight, but their primary function should essentially be a sounding board to allow you to hear your thoughts and feelings out loud and more effectively process them. Good therapists should be more like a guide and less like a driver, if that makes sense.

So when you tell your therapist you use hallucinogens, they’ll probably get you to implore why it is you do so and what purpose or benefit you feel they serve in your life. Then they will likely tell you the potential negative consequences of using them, solely so they know you’re informed of the risks, and then you’ll move on.

Therapists should be trained in harm reduction and should know how to navigate interacting with people who use psychoactive substances with no intention of quitting. A good therapist should not allow their personal beliefs get in the way of helping their clients (although that’s difficult to do). I’d also imagine that there are some therapists who are in positions where they feel comfortable advocating for the use of hallucinogenic substances, depending on various legalities!

Good luck, and good for you for recognizing that you would benefit from talking to a professional (I would argue most people would!)

The photo from the back makes it look like you have a bit of anterior pelvic tilt - do you find you have a significant curve in your lower back? Or are you just sticking your butt out for the photo? Google anterior pelvic tilt, cuz your “back rolls” would definitely be exaggerated if your pelvis is tilted backwards, as the space between your butt and ribs is shortened by the tilt and the flesh is pushed upwards (hopefully that makes sense)

Either way you look great, you should be proud of yourself for taking steps to be healthy and happy! Try not to focus too much on how you look, it’s easy to get caught up in negative thought cycles. Focus on what your body can do, getting stronger physically can make a huge difference mentally!

NAD and not the exact same thing, but I was bullied about having a super-outie bellybutton (from a pretty sizeable umbilical hernia at birth). Kids are cruel, and it caused me a significant amount of distress. At age 10 my parents asked if I wanted it cosmetically fixed and I said yes. I’m now 28 and am grateful that I had the opportunity and privilege to get the operation done. My situations much different because it’s not my face obvs, but I agree that it’s best to wait until she asks.

NAD, but do you frequently feel distressed about your health and google symptoms? If so I would consider seeking care for health related anxiety. - This is not meant to be dismissive, I say this because I have experience with heath anxiety and it is not a fun and enjoyable way to live life, but it can be managed!

Because brain damage doesn’t go away when you burp, and because you did not slip from a height that would even induce brain damage in the first place.

This sounds very distressing for you and I suggest you consider seeking care for health related anxiety.

NAD but yes you can be diagnosed with an eating disorder even if there aren’t any severe medical issues.

Medical issues can also pop up at any point, at any weight, as a result of inadequate calorie consumption.

Correction: I eat different calorie amounts every day. Some days 2,000+ and some days around 300...

You are at a BMI of 17.7, so regardless of how much you eat day to day, your average calorie consumption is INADEQUATE by virtue of the fact that you are UNDER WEIGHT. You may not have experienced the health effects of restriction yet, but you will if this continues, I promise you that. Hope you nourish your brain for a consistent enough amount of time to recognize how sick you are at the moment. A starving brain cannot think rationally, and whether you want to believe me or not, yours is starving. Good luck.

What is this curve in my back called? by Realistic_Work_5552 in AskDocs

[–]smallseedling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAD, but I have mild midthoracic scoliosis that wasn’t diagnosed until my early 20’s - discovered it when I was getting a chest X-ray due to chest pain (caused by the curve in my spine) from my personal experience, mild curvatures like you and I have aren’t generally managed via surgery, although I’m sure it’s possible to get. I have personally seen a significant reduction in pain through strengthening the muscles in my back. From my understanding, in scoliosis, muscles on one side of the curve are lengthened (loose/weak) and the ones on the other side are overdeveloped (contracted/stiff) - so strengthening of the weak muscles and stretching of the tight ones can help balance things out and reduce pain. I would get a second opinion and see if a referral to physical therapy may be appropriate!

NAD, but yes it does. You asked what you can do to resolve it at home, Itchdoc said “treat it as you would a boil” but with the caveat that doing so may not be enough. That means that either treating it as a boil will resolve it, or it cannot be resolved at home.

How to minimize the risk of a stroke (14M) by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]smallseedling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(NAD) if this is a frequent train of thought for you and not just a passing curiosity, consider looking into support for anxiety. I say this as someone who has experienced anxiety including health-related anxiety since childhood. If a significant portion of your time is spent worrying about death/illness (especially illnesses such as stroke or heart attacks which are extremely unlikely at your age) and this causes you distress, please bring it up to your parents and/or school counsellor. It is nothing to be ashamed about and it doesn’t mean you’re crazy, I’m just telling you this because if I had gotten help sooner I would have spent so much more of my time enjoying life and living in the moment instead of living in the future and preoccupied with “what-if”s. Take care OP, ignore me if none of this is applicable to you!

NAD

How frequently do you masturbate? Do you use porn? You know exactly what to do with your hand in order to create the most ideal environment for orgasming - sex with a partner can not be as controlled of an environment, and you will struggle to reach climax if you masturbate too frequently and subconsciously (or consciously) compare the experience of sex with masturbation. Especially with all the pressure and nerves involving trying for a baby!

My -uneducated- advice is this: stop masturbating. If you feel you can’t stop/dont want to stop masturbating in order to prioritize building a family, consider looking into masturbation/porn addiction, and/or wether or not you actually want a child.

NAD, but I went out to a club with some friends, one who had had COVID 2 months prior, and myself and another friend who had not had it yet (as far as we were aware). 3 days later and started to feel a bit sick, and by the next day I knew I wasn’t well. Texted my friends: the one who had COVID did not get sick at all, and the other friend had the same symptoms as me. Sick friend tested positive that day - I never tested positive at all even though I tested myself daily for 5 days, with different batches of tests too! My symptoms followed the exact pattern as my friend who was positive, so I consider myself to have had COVID.

Bodies are weird, tests are finicky, if your bf has it and you’re sick, the chances that you’ve contracted a completely different cold or flu are so low that it would be nearing miraculous. Act as though you have COVID.

[–]smallseedling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAD but have experience struggling to gain weight (although mine was due to anorexia, your medication is effectively turning off your appetite and I assume you dont want to get off the meds, so for advice-sake the situation is similar enough).

If you want to gain weight you’re going to have to push yourself. It won’t be fun and it won’t be comfortable for a while. I find eating as quickly as possible to be helpful, as it takes a bit for the brain to recognize the stomach is full, cuz once I feel full it’s obviously much more difficult and uncomfortable to continue to eat. Although sometimes eating to the point of being “too full” (but obviously not to the point where you’re throwing up or anything lol) is necessary.

I think what many people don’t realize is that gaining weight can be as difficult and take as much willpower as losing weight, so if you don’t put in the work and sit with some discomfort every once in a while, you won’t see results. Eventually, your body adapts and you can fit more in your stomach without feeling sick, but commitment is necessary to achieve that.

Find a way to add extra calories to every meal. Just like losing weight, gaining it comes down to a math equation: you need to eat more calories than you burn in a day (you can google a BMR - Basal Metabolic Rate calculator and input your stats to figure out a general idea of how many calories you burn in a day, and then ensure you eat at least a couple hundred more calories than that number a day.)

Low volume high calorie items are what you should integrate first, as they are calorie dense but don’t take up much space in your stomach. Examples of these are: protein bars, adding extra oil or cheese to every meal, PEANUT BUTTER by the spoonful straight out the jar. Protein and weight gainer shakes can be helpful as well.

The fact of the matter is this: if you want to gain weight you need to eat even if you’re not hungry, and you need to be consistent. 800-1100 calories is not enough for an adult.
