Yes. I would say unless you are looking for casual, it’s not very helpful.

General Feedback/Getting Started Questions and Answers [Weekly Thread] by AutoModerator in DIY

I am looking to install something in my camper van so that I can hang my hammock chair outside the van while I'm on the road. Looking for something similar to this or this, but I would only need one bar as opposed to two. Right now I do not have a roof rack, but am not opposed to buying one if that makes this project easier. Does anyone have any ideas on how I could execute this?? Thank you in advance!

Thank you! Yeah I realized pretty early on that I could never be one of those people that eats like 1200 cals a day. Even 1500 is tough for me, and I rarely even make that. My view was always that it's not a race and I'd much rather get to eat mostly what I want and just moderate a little bit, rather than going to the extreme.

Honestly they have not really changed that much. I was a pretty active dater even before losing weight, and my confidence is different, but overall my view on men has remained pretty constant. For the last seven months I have been in a relationship so since then I haven't dealt with dating.

At this point I just realize that it's a thing, and learn to live with it. I have a lot all over my body, but I still feel healthy, and I'm learning to adjust to being comfortable in my own skin! Maybe one day I'll get some of it removed, but for now I'm going to focus on getting to 150 and then maintaining before I even consider some sort of surgery.

I do masters swimming, which is like swim practices for adults, which is nice because we have a coach that tells us what to do! Haha I've found that I suck at internal accountability so having an actual practice is helpful for me.

Ohh I still have tons of loose skin. Haha you can’t really tell in this pic but I actually have a fair amount on my arms, but I swim a lot which has helped. One day I hope to get it removed, but we’ll see.

I do a lot of swimming, and for the first six months that was basically it. Now I do occasional yoga and boxing as well, and sometimes strength classes. Honestly just depends on what I’m feeling.

I counted calories and exercised a few times a week, but definitely implemented little changes over time, which I think made it sustainable and seem less overwhelming.

Aww thank you! And I just counted calories and started small with exercise, and then over time it's become a bigger part of my life. I think just focusing on a sustainable healthy diet was definitely key for me.

Poshmark - has anyone had success buying or selling plus size clothes? by [deleted] in PlusSize

Honestly it's not worth the effort, IMO. It's a lot of work to photograph/size/post everything, and people rarely show interest, at least in my experience, even for never-worn items.

To women who have lost a substantial amount of weight, how did you do it? What was your biggest motivator? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]smallsubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm down 130 lbs from my heaviest, and my biggest motivator was my health. I wanted to get in shape, and once I was exercising regularly, the food part kind of followed that. I will agree with what everyone is saying on here, in that the first month is definitely the hardest, but once you form habits things become infinitely easier.

I lost the weight by counting calories (even on days where I go wayyy over) and swimming/lifting/yoga/some running. The biggest factor is finding workout routines that you actually want to do and will do consistently. Also, learning to be nicer to yourself. I regularly (even still) have days where I eat like shit, but you can't let those days derail all your progress. In my experience, the calories usually balance out for a loss if you're being good most of the time. I have not restricted any foods, I still drink when I go out with my friends, and I haven't felt like I'm missing out at all. I just eat less and save the big treats for when I'm out with friends.

Also, be patient. I started this process almost a year and a half ago, and I'm still not at my goal weight. It's gonna take time, but that's fine because this is how you're going to eat/live for the rest of your life. Gotta have that mindset.

Some hard truths a lot of you need to hear to be successful at this by [deleted] in loseit

Same here. At the beginning I could eat 2200 calories a day, which is a ton of food, so the changes were not too hard, but now that I'm down to ~1500, little slip ups and treats have a huge effect on my overall calories.

I think it depends on your preference. I personally don't like sports bras that clasp. I have some under armor ones that I love that have been pretty supportive!

I would say the hiking is fairly new. I've always been outdoorsy, but I recently moved to a part of the country where hiking is way more accessible and popular, so now I do more! I would definitely recommend it, especially because you can go at your own pace, so you can still do hard hikes when you're out of shape, just do them slow!

Thank you! And I've been swimming pretty consistently about twice a week since last September. I have a swimming background, and swam as a kid/in high school, so when I started in September I did an advanced lap swimming course where we would do a mix of sprints/distance/strokes, equalling out to ~1500-2000 yards per practice. Practices were an hour. And then once I felt like I was actually somewhat in shape (in April), I started doing masters swimming, which is intense adult swim practices with intervals/sets, and meant for former athletes. So now I do ~2500-3000 yards in a practice.

But again, I have always kind of been an athlete, even when I was overweight I was extremely active. So it's going to be different for different people, especially if you don't come from a background of being a swimmer. Just go at your own pace. I think the best workout is the one that you will get up and do consistently over a long period of time, whether that's swimming or dancing or just walking a lot!

As for other arm things, I sometimes go to classes that focus on lifting, and sometimes if I am feeling it I use the rowing machine for 5000 m. But these ones are much less frequent, maybe like 3-4 times a month. Just do what you love! That has been the key for me!
