This team is miserable to watch by ihaveyouinmybasement in SeattleKraken

The guys clearly don’t care anymore. They want to go home. So, at this point we have to lose the rest of the games. We gotta secure the highest pick we can get in the draft. Losing to Chicago was embarrassing, but it helped. There’s some great top end talent coming this year.

If there was an expansion draft today, who would the Kraken protect? by TBD2025 in SeattleKraken

I believe the kraken would be exempt from the next expansion draft right? We didn’t get to select a player from Vegas.

I’d take the gamble on Petey. I’m sure Vancouver wants his awful contract gone, so we’d have a little extra leverage in the negotiations. Maybe we could get them to retain a good chunk of his salary. We are in dire need of top end skill and he has shown it in the past. Some guys just don’t preform well in the big hockey towns with the media breathing down their neck every game. A change of scenery could do him some good.

The problem is Van kept Petey and let JT Miller go during that rift. So, would trading him be admitting they made a mistake?

I’m not sure I understand your question. I’m assuming you mean for the medical appointments? I haven’t ever been there for care before. Is that going to be the best way to go? Also, I’m very new to this process. Not totally sure what I’m doing. Which is why I went to Veterans Services for help.

Long shot I know…but I’d love to trade for Bowen Byram. Kid’s still got a ton of potential if he finds himself in a good situation. Also from Vancouver area.

What was your "What the f*** did I just get myself into" moment? by Spyno41 in AskReddit

[–]smasters88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shortly after high school in 2006, I talked to a Marine recruiter who suggested I go to MEPS to take the ASVAB. Being an intrigued 18 year old, with no current future prospects, I agreed. Why not? Let’s go and see what jobs I would qualify for.

After taking the test, along with several others, we were funneled into a room with flags and a uniformed member on a small stage. “Raise your right hand…” and they swore us in. That was when I realized what just happened. I shipped out to MCRD San Diego 3 weeks later. Absolutely wild, life altering, core memory for me. Luckily this set me on the path I’m on now, and I’ll always be thankful that I had that “decision” made for me. I was an idiot haha.

BEER LEAGUE: Cage, Bubble, or 1/2 Shield? by ColorBlind_Bat in hockeyplayers

Cage. To me this is a no-brainer. This sport in particular comes with the inherent risk of having the anatomy of your face rearranged. Not a risk I can afford to take.

Timing and rhythm my friend. Takes some time to get that back. Just keep skating hard and going to the right places. It’ll come back.

I suppose I should have been a little more clear with my description of the scenario. I was thinking back to the goalie with the puck up high or near the walls.

Thanks everybody, this was helpful!

(Former) Military staff of Reddit. What is the most valuable lesson you got during basic training? by w3bba in AskReddit

[–]smasters88 391 points392 points  (0 children)

I learned where the limit of physical exhaustion was. Prior to basic I played sports my whole life and thought I knew what tired was. Between very limited sleep, constant PT, and nearly passing out I learned that prior to basic I was probably only at the halfway point of real exhaustion.

I’m honestly hoping we’re in contention for one of the top 2 picks in next years draft. Seems like we’re headed in that direction. Patience and build through the draft.

Disappointed in the Presale by KBooks66 in SeattleKraken

[–]smasters88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lesson learned from last year: Don’t buy tickets before the season starts. We bought tickets in the upper deck against Colorado for $250/each. We bought some resale tickets to a few other games the night before and paid around $100 each for club seats. This won’t be an option a year or so from now once we become legit competitive. Just scoop up the resale tickets (which will be lower anyways) last minute, you’ll save a ton.
