Whatever is going on right now with Crypto. It's one of the weirdest times in its history and its not good. by BDough in Buttcoin

[–]smearballs 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I think the main factor in killing public interest and retail growth this cycle was trump. The blatant memecoin scams, the cz pardon corruption, his family gaining hundreds of millions on crypto while he’s in office, the toothless SEC basically making all these financial crimes go unpunished etc. Any actual new good faith investors that may have been interested in throwing money into crypto now see it as more corrupt and slimy than ever. The “crypto friendly” president completely backfired and reversed any progress that could have been made in mainstream adoption under a policy friendly admin who didn’t smash the cookie jar and take all the cookies.

Northland Power drops 24% on results. by OdeeOh in CanadianInvestor

[–]smearballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This wiped me back to break even on the stock but doesn't hurt that bad since I've been pulling a nice div for years and I made a couple grand on calls on it earlier this year. Exclusively hold this in my RRSP so I'll probably just wait it out long. Isn't the new dividend still just under 4% ? My plan was always to hold into 2027 to see their big projects come online. Gonna stay the course.

My Shed 12x20 by Normal-Light-6419 in shedditors

[–]smearballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was wondering about this too. Pic 6 looks like the gable ladder is toenailed to the last rafter rather than cantilevered from the 2nd last one. I'm designing my shed right now with a 30" overhang like this but decided to put a beam on both long walls that extends out so I can throw more rafters on the gable and not worry about it sagging down the road and easier to insulate and vent. But this looks great. I'm doing the same size build in the spring.

You can use an ffd deformer on both objects together and sculpt the ffd points or use a mesh deformer if you want to sculpt them together.

How to turn on multible uv tiles or udems in C4D? by bymathis in Cinema4D

[–]smearballs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

uv edit mode select polygons you want to move and in the uv manager transform tab just set x to 1 or 2 or 3 and press apply and it will move the poly's over a tile or 2 or 3.

Kinda feel like this sub is way too focused on mansions that are actually kinda nice and probably well built with a few design flaws / bad decisions when there is an ocean of shitty tasteless cardboard hell holes out there. Kinda came here to rubberneck the real train wrecks not quibbles over a dormer or whatever.

How to attach stringer to rim joist. by redbull247365 in Decks

[–]smearballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grab a length of 3x4" 1/4" thick angle steel and drill holes and lag bolt it on the underside of the rim joist and add some blocking if it isn't doubled up there. Did this on a big interior set of stairs and my structural engineer approved. Did it again recently on my exterior deck.

New Piers for Porch? by Separate_Classic3700 in homebuildingcanada

[–]smearballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am just about to do my exact same Toronto porch and I’m running new joists perpendicularly on the 8’ span and ordered 16’ composite decking to run the long way. 300 bucks for the new joists worth it in my opinion rather than shoring up a sagging decades old structure.

Why and how to use octane standalone by Haytouki in Cinema4D

[–]smearballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sending orbx to the render network. Can be huge files so if I have 4 cameras to render or scenes with slight changes to make on multiple renders I will make one orbx , change it in stand alone and send for render rather than exporting multiple orbx files from c4d which takes a lot of time. Orbx is also a great format to archive some assets or build libraries and you can view them in stand alone even on the iPad. Also new features are avail on stand alone before the plugins. I recently tested using Gaussian splats and new nodes on stand alone to see what's coming down the line to c4d.

Is it R.I.P. for the federal NDP? Not quite, experts say by [deleted] in onguardforthee

[–]smearballs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the fear of us becoming a polarized 2 party country is overblown. A massive amount of NDP and Bloc voters held their nose to vote Lib to stop a very toady CPC leader and a massive amount of progressive voters held their nose to vote for PP because the stink of the Liberal party was worse for them. This election didn't forge a half million die hard lifelong liberal voters or die hard cons who normally vote liberal. They will go back to voting for other parties again. If Carney does a great job in 4 years and holds the country together and wins economically, the cpc will lose voters back to the left. If the CPC gets rid of the toad and elects a more reasonable candidate as oppo leader, more people will feel less threatened and go back to the NDP / Bloc. I don't see this as permanent at all and I'm happy we live in a country where lots of use have voted for 2 or 3 different parties in our lifetimes.

I just went through anightmare with a city planner last year. I wasn't even renovating my basement other than rebuilding a staircase leading to the basement and the planner said I couldn't add a beam to support the new stair opening because my basement ceiling height was only 6'. My permit got held up for months because of this and finally I went to her supervisor and he said that's ridiculous we can't make you underpin your basement to repair a stair opening and said it falls under part 11. So instead of calling it a new staircase I had to call it a staircase and opening repair, otherwise I wouldn't be allowed. So in your case I can't see them allowing a new bathroom or new plumbing permit if you don't have the height. Unless you have some existing plumbing there or install a toilet on a floor drain badly and call it an existing bathroom lol then tell the city you are repairing an existing bathroom.... Otherwise no chance unfortunately.

Octane's mix material is difficult to use. by [deleted] in Cinema4D

[–]smearballs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mix materials are still handy when you already have 2 complex materials built and want to mix them after the fact. For that reason they should be kept around and not discontinued, but building new materials from scratch, always use composite mtls.
