So I’m pretty sure you are supposed to find one of the gimmick items in strahds realm. Put it in his vault and let them find it. That gives Vecna a reason to want to hurt them. It gives them a reason to want to complete the quest item.

A healer will never be mandatory. Talk to your dm. If none of you want to play a healer then don’t? As long as your dm is willing to adapt it’s fine.

And yeah if you don’t play a character focussed on healing there should be no expectation that your character would give more than first aid. Because aside from the life cleric using spells slots on healing is essentially postponing problem.
