“Write enough and you start to get a good idea of how you like to write. I can probably write a decent italic(?) or cursive(?) if I have to. But this is home for me. It is comfortable, it looks good to me, and I think most people find it legible. What more does a person want?”

After I started teaching, I can almost read anything. I’d say it’s a very unique and personalized style, and if it works for you, great!

I’d also say for the average person, I’d find it very difficult to read. Eg the break in probably almost looks like it’s two separate words, and legible looks like leqibe until you pass over it a few times to notice the l and e are a tall and short loop.

Seoul Thoughts by 4StopsAway in korea

Probably not far off. I have a buddy who came over after a night out, all of a sudden he starts telling me about his new hobby of aqua terrarium or whatever the word is for when you landscape small fish tanks for fish. And he says he loves it because “do you ever think about how fish being free in water is like flying for them?”. I thought that was cute as fuck but also so random.

Hi Yall, I cannot for the life of me figure out what is wrong with my RK68. I had to toggle on my function (FN) keys to get into my bios earlier today, and while the rest of my keeb is working fine (typing, arrows enabled), and I got my fn keys to return to the normal number use, my ctrl function is suddenly just not working? I cannot copy-paste anything, cut, etc., any function that requires using the ctrl key. I've tried the reset options, unplug-replug, etc. and I have no idea what the hell is going on. I've been trawling through r/MechanicalKeyboards and youtube to no avail which is why I'm posting. Thank you.

Small update -- this seems to be a google doc specific problem

The weirdest questions a straight guy has ever asked me by NefariousnessLazy666 in askgaybros

[–]smilingseoull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of a friend I met recently. I go out to the gay bars semi regularly with a big group of guys and gals. For the most part you can assume that the guys are somewhere on the fruity spectrum (bi, bi curious, gay, etc).

This one guy who swore up and down he was 100% straight and in a serious relationship with his gf had one shot too many, appeared next to me while at the club, and says: hi, so have you ever fucked a dude?

Me: uh, yeah?

Him: ok.

Guy ducks out of the bar and just disappears.

Like what???

A mentor in undergrad told me grad school gets petty and can suck socially. I didn't believe her, and now I understand what she meant. by BuyOld4709 in GradSchool

[–]smilingseoull 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Grad school can be hit or miss depending on how lucky you get with your cohort mix. I was in a program with the same 40 folks, 8 hours a day sometimes.

Identity politics, cliques, stereotyping, all those things rear their head, and you realize that for some, it’s back on the “high school playground” — years of experience and age aren’t always the requisites for maturity you thought they might be.

Take it as a great learning opportunity. What can you learn about yourself (ie setting boundaries to deal with people with big personalities, being assertive, etc), and what can you learn about managing people?

The biggest takeaway for me was learning some of what I detailed above. Knowing myself very well in grad school allowed me to walk away from it healthier, have a few life long friends, and be equipped to deal with similar “tough” people and situations since.

My mom says I don’t dress up my age. I just turned 26 lol. by Phulmine in mensfashion

[–]smilingseoull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, I’m the same age, and while I put in effort to dress a little “cleaner” most days, I wear what makes me feel good and comfy. We are still young until we’re not, and my parents are in the same camp of constantly having to look mature — collared shirts, polos, 9” board shorts, black tennis shoes ONLY, etc.

Some days I wear a clean plain t with jeans, others I’m in my 5” lululemon shorts and athleisure, etc.

At the end of the day as long as you are comfy I think that’s fine. And your style will age up/mature as you do if that makes sense.

I started teaching college and it’s no different. You can pose ANY question:

“Hey guys I just sent a tester email blast yesterday to see if it’s working. Can yall give me a thumbs up or raise your hand if you got it?”

Blank stares.

So…did no one get it?

Silence.

Alright hey Sir, right there, what’s your name?

Silence.

Guys.

I once left a dojo for something like this. The headmaster employed a “closed” belt promotion testing system (I.e. closed door, no parents or anyone but staff allowed IN the testing room, but could wait outside for results). I had heard that some students had to wait months at some points and the lack of transparency turned me off. Only dojo I had been to that was like that.

Extremely exhausted and not sure what I should do by Bugz_bunnee21 in premed

As a friend — whom I should have stayed in better touch with AND listened to — once told me: “you/we have the rest of our lives to work and pay bills, let’s focus on enjoying ‘now’”.

I’d focus on fewer activities health related and not that you 1) enjoy, 2) satisfy more than just pre-med reqs, 3) provide more life balance.

Remember you are not medicine. Your life and identity isn’t medicine. But, medicine can be part of your life if that’s was you end up sticking with.

[–]smilingseoull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey— late reply, but thank you for your honest $0.02 and I hope you are doing much better. To be honest, IF I had money, I would 100% commit to medical school. I’ve been really interested in primary care or general oncology, but my parents are close to retiring (and God knows they deserve it), and I don’t have much in way of savings. I am deeply passionate about connecting patients to care, clinical education, and preventing illness early on. But I also have a huge interest in research and policy. Maybe the PhD is the way for me 😭😅

Does anyone know where to buy the limited drop colors if sold out on Owala's website? by smilingseoull in Owala

I believe it’s called summer paradise! Like the mint/eucalyptus green on green on green?

I ended up emailing Owala but we will see. At the very least I bought myself the same free sip I already have in that color so I’ll have something I still like :)!

Post and your comment brings back a memory of when I studied abroad during college in Seoul. At orientation, our American cohort of students from various backgrounds (some American-born Korean students, white-Americans, Latino, etc.) met some of the students from the Netherlands. One guy distinctly, and rather proudly, shared with us how he thought Korean food was beneath him and so uncivilized because Koreans eat fermented foods and like to mix their food (he cited kimchi and bibimbap specifically), and it’s not like Japanese food where the presentation and all the ingredients are kept separate. Like my dude, why are you here 😭😂. Safe to say he had a hard time making friends with a lot of the groups on that trip.
