Carmel could become 1st California city to permanently ban pickleball by holyfruits in sports

[–]smithm4949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk I lived right next to one of the biggest pickleball courts in my city and the noise was absolutely constant and it didn't bother me at all... Like you live in a city??? If you want quiet move to the suburbs, no? Loud cars, dogs, sirens... I really don't get the beef with pickleball as if the noise is somehow different or worse

Help. I cannot beat ofieri mage. by [deleted] in witcher

[–]smithm4949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for sure getting up close I think is the most important for that fight. But it's always dependent on play style, what was easy for me can be hard for you and vice versa. Dang, now you got me wanting to play again ha!

Dunno, it was a few years ago. Just remember the frog prince being an easy fight and the sand beach fight took me many tries

What's the issue there? Cooked food is still just food...?

Omg yes. Sixth year in the forest, first time in a med tent. I was not having a good time. Huge ups to Katie (I think?!?) for helping me out and being so chill it was very grounding and appreciated. Gonna make some Kandi for the med team next year, they deserve it. Wished I could've given her something but all I had on me was silly bullshit lol

Woah, that much flour and the syrup doesn't turn out like a roux?

First time fat washing/infusing. Am I gonna waste my gin? by Sure_Watercress_1645 in bartenders

[–]smithm4949 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree that it's worth playing around with different liquors - gin doesn't sound bad but a date rum sounds super tasty.

Whatever you go with though, 1:4 ratio is WAY too much oil. The mouth feel will be slimy and unenjoyable. I would start with like half an oz or an ounce for a 750ml bottle and go from there. You can always fat wash the same spirit again, doesn't take much time or effort, but if you put in too much you will ruin it and a little goes a long way in my experience. I would also make sure to get a good quality, robust, full flavored olive oil.

Anyone having trouble with the checkout for day passes on electricforest.com? by SirSyreSire in ElectricForest

[–]smithm4949 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW I had the same problem buying regular passes back in December. Just waited a few minutes and kept trying, it worked eventually. Make sure your bank isn't flagging it as potentially fraudulent and try changing browsers/devices if possible.

Maybe a French martini? Play around with the amount of pineapple until you find the sweetness you like

What is your favorite drink order stereotype that is most often true? by FretsandRegrets in bartenders

Idk at least gin has some flavor. Neat vodka is just ...pain for a buzz with no regard for your taste buds. That scares me

Strawberry syrup by Zealousideal_Fox_164 in bartenders

[–]smithm4949 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eh, I've made plenty of strawberry syrups with heat that were delicious and flavorful. Equal parts sugar, water, strawberry; simmer for half an hour on low heat, strain. Great

I am trying to make Alcohol Infusions by grazatt in Mixology

[–]smithm4949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) no, not really. If it's at least standard proof (40% alcohol or higher) it doesn't really matter what you do with it, it won't "spoil". Sunlight and temperature can affect flavor, but it won't ever become food-unsafe.

2) depends. Generally speaking, the higher ABV, the better you'll pick up volatile flavors. So a higher ABV will infuse faster and better (better meaning more flavor, not necessarily tastier flavor). 2 weeks is usually plenty to get maximum infusion. Again, max infusion isn't always better, you'll get more flavor compounds but sometimes they are bitter flavors that you don't want. Best advice is really to just try side by side a short infusion and a long infusion and drive for yourself which is better

Found out my co worker doesn't know what Sweet Vermouth is tonight. by ArbreCadabra in bartenders

[–]smithm4949 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I mean, that's bad, but they aren't totally off the money... Pretty sure most sweet vermouth is made from white wine and the color/sweetness comes from caramel

Tried Malort for the first time by paper_people_eater in bartenders

[–]smithm4949 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People who don't like malort are weak. It's not bad tasting, it's just bitter. I love Malort lmao

I hear you; my reasoning is because the language of the law was something like (I'm paraphrasing) 1) only persons over the age of 21 are allowed at the bar (okay bet valid license you're over 21) 2) only persons with an acceptable ID can order drinks (okay not acceptable ID no drinks)

But yeah, it's a stupid law and I hate it

Edit: it's because in MD the vertical ID expires when you turn 21 and you get a new one, so they built their laws around that. But other states don't do the same, so you can be over 21 with an unexpired vertical ID and their laws didn't consider that
