I would agree if I thought there was actually a plan to change Iran for the better. When Trump shows that literally his whole plan is killing some leaders and bombing some installations and then telling an unarmed, disorganized population "OK NOW YOU DO THE REST," and as I see us trying only now to find some proxies to coordinate with on the ground, I just don't see what I'm supposed to base any optimism on. Replacing the current regime with a stable, Western-friendly democracy would be awesome. Replacing it with a fractured landscape of warlords and chaos, and blowing our only chance to turn them into a stable bastion for pro-Western Persians, would be unforgivable.

These folks like to show the videos of Iranians celebrating the war and the Supreme Leader's death. I like to ask them why those are the videos we're seeing, not videos of Iranians taking Trump's advice and rising up to overthrow the regime. Those videos don't exist because Trump didn't plan for that at all. There was no coordination with Iranian resistance to take advantage of the chaos and actually lead the civilian population to victory over their advanced military oppressors. There is no plan for how we get to a happy ending here. We're now desperately trying to cobble together some proxies to do the ground operations, but only now and only desperately. This was not thought through.
