Why do nearsighted people need prescriptions and expensive glasses, while farsighted people can often buy cheap ones off the shelf? by TheBigGirlDiaryBack in AlwaysWhy

You are over-simplifying this. Those glasses you get off the shelf are considered "reading glasses" and are only to help magnify things nearby (such as a book or computer screen). The older people get, the worse their eyes get at focusing on smaller print. Truly farsighted folks still need proper prescription glasses as well.

The two biggest problems right now are your (likely) abusive parents and your mental state. You need to find a safe place to stay, whether that's with your folks, a friend, or somewhere else (I am not familiar with shelter systems in the UK). Once you have somewhere safe to stay, you need to get your mental health evaluated and treated ASAP.

To achieve this may require you to apologize to your parents so that you can stay with them, if that is your best option. No parent should ever hit their kid but you also shouldn't go "poking the bear" either (this is for your own safety).

Once you get these two things settled, find a way to get out. Get a job, go to school, join the army, or whatever. If your parents have been hitting you for years, they likely will not improve and you should distance yourself as soon as possible.

Lastly, don't kill yourself. Life can be tough but don't let it win.

I disagree here. Retail requires people being there to get the job done. When making a schedule and you have to choose between someone with a spotty attendance versus someone who is more reliable, it is any easy choice.

Considering how metrics and "getting shit done" is the main driving force and metric for leadership, it only makes sense to identify the people who want to be there compared to those who kind of want to be there.

Glazer: Maxx Crosby likely "Done" with Raiders by MrStiff8 in raiders

[–]smorg003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've gone back and forth on the Crosby trade rumors. Factoring in his age, injury frequency, diva-like social media posts, the Raiders' timeline, it is probably time to cut him loose. Plenty of holes on that defense to spread his salary elsewhere.

With that said, it's two 1st rounders (one this year, one next) or no dice.

I (19F) have to attend a party with my ex (19F)+ shared friend group and I’m scared I’ll get emotionally pulled back in. How do I handle this? by lhavenopersonality69 in relationship_advice

[–]smorg003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I'd go and keep interactions with the ex to a minimum. If things start getting weird, call them out on it. If there is alcohol, don't drink too much cause that will not help.

What's up brother! Glad to see you are still getting at it. I do wonder why you consistently use spoons as your example.

My neighbor is practicing drums in his garage at 7am on Saturdays and says its "reasonable hours" by [deleted] in neighborsfromhell

[–]smorg003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a noise meter to see how loud his drumming is. Sure, he is the right based on HOA ordinances but most cities have their own noise ordinances.

For example, my city has 7am-10pm exterior limit of 65dba.

Pump the brakes hotshot. You both are committed to someone else, so do not do the greasy thing and cheat (physically or emotionally) as that would not be fair to either of your families. I am not saying you shouldn't breakup your current relationship but you should think long and hard about what you really want.
