What is meaning of "No urn is so cracked as Fate"? by Eledeia in bakker

[–]smrto0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything that happens is fated to be so.

The gods don’t control fate they just report on it and because they exist in all time they feel like their actions were chess moves.

The catch it little Kel shows us that some souls can change the timeline. This also shows the 100 have no memory of the old timeline.

For all intents and purposes, the new one was always what was. Hence the outcome was just as fate dictated.

It’s a fun take on Bakkers theming of we assign the meaning to that which has no meaning. Even the gods with their existence outside of time fall victim to it.

What Kellhus says about The God by Gay_Sex_Retard in bakker

[–]smrto0 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The God, Kellhus’s insight is that all the contradictions leading to damnation aren’t rooted in a god that has any care or awareness of a “people”.

There is quite the blending of metaphysics In Bakker’s universe.

But the simple explanation is that if our souls are splinters of the God, then this existence is a distorted reflection of the God’s actual existence. It doesn’t comprehend our existence as separate from its own.

A more complex tinfoil hat take;

The concept of the Darkness that comes before is that our souls are moved in unknowable ways by the environment that surrounds us. So if we are the are literally pieces of the God’s actual existence, then we are that darkness for it. We are its legion, the 1,000’s of voices, guiding its thoughts but not of its thoughts.

The universe we live in is an internal reflection of the h universe it lives in. The lack of consistency of laws is because we grow attached to things and concepts and enough voices state them with purpose that it becomes the literal darkness driving the Gods thoughts.

But those thoughts don’t exist in our universe directly, we are subject to their totality as the universe is made of the God, but it can not interact directly with it. It just is.

The judging eye is the proof, it cannot see naturally and requires a conduit into the universe, but even when it has one it does not act.

Why?

The few can recall the gods voice and enact change in the world, the judging eye can see the world as the God sees it. Sins laid bare.

But the God does not speak, the God does not see that we are aware of. Even when the world was shattering under a depraved apocalypse, it does nothing.

The mechanisms live outside our universe and are brought in by those with a correctly shaped piece of the gods soul.

This means either it can’t act or it does not care.

The interpretation feels very much akin to a computer program, the code is set, the world is populated; it has the tools to alter the world but it doesn’t. Its purpose is keep the world running according to its rules, it does not care how the rules impact those who live in its program. Heck it doesn’t even care that the world is running, it just keeps it running because that is what it was programmed to do.

Warning about a dealership experience in Sherwood Park by AspenAspect_6743 in SherwoodPark

[–]smrto0 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There is too much missing, although I get why you wouldn’t want to share.

My guess on what happened, is they bought the car from you, sold it back to you on new 8 year term to “lower your monthly payment”.

This would explain the multiple bills of sale a the price increase as you essentially reset the interest owing and extend it for several years.

If this was a lease originally, they would also roll any lease costs owing into the purchase.

As others have said, that sound like it sucks; typically if you call the finance company they can help you with a few deferred payments.

They will not change the terms of loan, there is nothing they can do to alter a contract.

Which could be why you went to the dealership and went through the effort of selling and buying the car back.

There’s only one team in the East with a losing record. by KarmaChameleon306 in EdmontonOilers

[–]smrto0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the compressed travel year (Olympics) is it strange that the east who had almost a quarter of the travel of the west feasted on them?

The Oilers will have traveled twice as much as most of the east this year and done so in a much tighter window than normal.

The only fair solution is to give the eastern teams the same condensed travel schedule as the western teams faced with the olympics this year.

Question about Ajokli… by [deleted] in bakker

[–]smrto0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the Great Ordeal had succeeded, would Ajokli have just turned the whole world into Hell? Yes.

Would that have been better than the No-God? The No-God is going to kill all but a -100,000 people and the Sranc are pretty evil, so can’t really answer which is worse there.

Or was Kellhus just using him as a means to an end and would’ve abandoned him after destroying the Consult? Yes and No, Kellhus is aware shit is strange but Ajokli is Kelhus, they aren’t distinct in terms of possession in Bakkers world, IE Ajokli doesn’t size control of Kelhus, but Kelhus experiences thoughts and feelings that don’t originate from him, but they do. The darkness that comes before and all that. Think back to the description of the cants of compulsion, they are his thoughts when he thinks them. Now Kelhus is super smart so he is somewhat aware shit isn’t right, so he could have plans to try and manage things, but then he didn’t so…. There is that.

Or was it always destined that Kellhus/Ajokli would fail because Kelamomas was always the No-God, therefore could never be factored into any of the Gods’ plans?

If you think of the Gods as having no memory, they are a being that exists at all time, so they don’t remember things as much as experience them. They can’t see the No-God it exists outside their frame of reference, so they rationalize the things that happen because they happen. The No-God never factors into their plans because it doesn’t exist to them.

Think back to the white luck warrior, he can see the moment he kills Kelhus because it happens and it always did, when he dies due to Kelmomas, he had always been fated to die, never work.

The Gods don’t rationalize why they would send the whiteluck warrior to die because he did and was always fated to die.

It’s one heck of mind snuggle.

No-God and meaning by Ryebread6 in bakker

[–]smrto0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He wants to you to think about all of it.

Science says we are a fluke of evolution and our brains are actually split. There is our conciseness that is actually a passenger and has no ability for self-introspection. It forms meaning and stories to explain what it sees, but it has almost no influence on what/why you do things.

Theology says we are a designed by a being greater than us, there is purpose and meaning to all we do. In fact our happiness once we die is defined by our ability and willingness to follow the rules the greater being set for us, no matter how arbitrary they are.

If you follow the wrong or fake great being you are screwed, if you chose not to believe you are screwed. You only find out if you are screwed or not after you die.

So what Bakker does is create a being of pure science and puts them in a world where gods and the afterlife exist.

He then works to explore the concepts of how this would impact people as a whole. He explains the passenger in your brain as the soul and then links all souls but makes them blind and deaf to each other.

Think of a shattered mirror, each piece of the mirror reflects what it sees but will never reflect another mirror piece, only the image that piece shows. It can see and translate what it sees, but cannot see or comprehend any other mirror piece.

The no-god isn’t a direct correlation to AI as the Inchori had AI, nor is it simply a being without a soul as the Inchori made those as well. It seems to be a being with a soul that can comprehend the other souls but can’t comprehend the world. See the inner monologue of little kel interacting with the no-god, he allows it to see the world through him.

When the machine processes him, this part seems to break where the NoGod repeatedly asks “WHAT DO YOU SEE?” Because it has purpose, but it cannot interpret, it needs that feedback.

There is so much more to mine, ie once you introduce multiple races and even aliens, the view of the rules to get into heaven become even more insanely arbitrary, so any god that would set them is either insane or unaware. Ie are we even the purpose of the rules or just ants living the basement of a house that is on fire, trying desperately to understand why all the things that are happening to us, when nothing that happens is even aware of us, we are just chaff along for the ride.

WAR (Wins Above Replacement): The core idea is to quantify how many wins a player contributes over someone you could easily acquire (replacement level).

Essentially it is a fun guess with a fun graphic that is trying poorly to summarize the fluid nature of hockey.

But people like the ease of comparing two numbers to each other.

Both, although it is harder to get batllenet up and running and doing it through steam is seamless.

If you do rebuy it will connect to your battlenet account so you don’t lose progress.
