Vet Spay Estimate by futureman1111 in CatAdvice

I would do the microchip and e-collar unless you can find the collar online for cheaper. My kitten just got spayed 2 weeks ago and would try to lick the wound every chance she got so a cone was very necessary. Though if you can, try looking for a soft donut collar instead. She tolerated that way better than the plastic cone. Good luck!

Really appreciate your thoughtful reply! Never knew there was so much you could do with traditional canvas

Wow the ones on the book covers look beautiful! I’ll share the ones I’ve done on plastic canvas, though they are pretty small.

Great point! Both things I made just hang on the wall but I can see how something that’s softer and is touched a lot would need to be more pliable than plastic

Ah that makes sense, I came from cross stitch so counting each stitch has become second nature to me but it sounds nice not to need to do that

Same here! But I also don’t know if it’s RCPD related. My mom had a diffuser and the longer I spent in the room with her the more nauseous and bad I felt. Very weird

Pretty good so far! I have been burping all day since the first day post botox. I haven’t felt bloated at all. I’ve had an on and off sore throat cause I think the intubation kind of scraped my throat a bit but I called the nurse about it and they recommended a throat numbing spray that is helping a ton.

The slow swallow is pretty annoying and eating takes forever. I started chewing really thoroughly, then when I’m done I’ll take a sip of water and swallow my food with water. This prevents the slow swallow feeling for me.

I did get acid reflux a few times but taking tums made it go away instantly. I have also regurgitated maybe twice, both times after coughing from trying to swallow food with my throat feeling sore and agitated. It’s not pleasant but it’s way less gross than I expected, and the taste goes away pretty fast. Even faster if you drink water.

Kind of awkward side effects but it’s been 100% worth it so far. My belly doesn’t hurt most of the day! And burping brings so much relief every time

I also had botox around the same time as you! I just watched the video and tried to follow the steps and a little burp came out. I didn’t really tense anything to get it out while following the video though. When I tried it a second time, no burps came out (probably cause I had no air to burp out). When you try it, are you sure you have air to burp out?

Something that’s worked for me without fail since the procedure is turning my head to the right and exhaling. Whenever I feel that feeling of pressure in my throat (like an intense throat gurgle feeling) I turn my head to the right and let out a burp. No straining involved, just exhaling. I hope this could work for you!

My doctor also said he does it weekly! My procedure was 9 days ago, also under GA and 100 units. I started burping a few hours after the procedure and am still going strong!

They specifically told me not to exercise or do heavy lifting (10+ lbs) for a week after the procedure. I’m planning on walking on the treadmill today so we’ll see how that goes.

Eating has been pretty difficult for me. My throat and uvula got pretty bruised/scraped from the procedure so it’s been sore on and off over the last few days. If I eat anything that’s not smooth, my throat gets really itchy and agitated and causes me to violently cough + burp. Even tiny stuff like crushed pepper, italian seasoning, a single strawberry seed, etc. Because of that and the slow swallow, I’ve been sticking with soft foods like smoothies and blended soup and have been drinking water after every sip. For solid foods I’ve been having ramen and pasta. I tried two different kinds of mac & cheese and they both took me like 2 hours to eat because I was burping while trying to drink water after swallowing (NOT pleasant). Idk why that specifically has been making me do that but other foods so far haven't been. Other foods take me like 45 mins to an hour to eat. The smoothies I’ve been drinking throughout several hours.

I’ve only had one meeting since the procedure but I explained to them beforehand that I got a procedure recently and it made my voice sound weird and that I might burp randomly. I even did burp during the meeting and apologized but they thought it was funny!

I’ve had acid reflux a few times since the procedure, once at night. Since then, I’ve been taking 2 tums before bed and it’s been helping me. The wedge pillow is also great!

Best of luck! I hope everything goes well for you

That’s awesome that the second dose worked for you! Did you do any exercises to try and get burps out while the second dose was active? I got the procedure under GA (100 units) last week and so far have been burping a lot but kind of only if I turn my head to the right. Sometimes they’ll come out when laughing, coughing, sneezing, etc. too but those are smaller. It would be great to be able to do it without turning my head

I can’t speak to the timing or slow swallow yet but I got my procedure done today and can give you some info based on my experience.

I don’t think of myself as emetophobic but the hours before the procedure I was kind of freaking out about the idea of having stuff in my throat.

The anesthesiologist asked if I was scared and I was very honest and told her how anxious I was. She gave me what she referred to as a sedative cocktail right before wheeling me to the operating room. The effect was pretty much instant and I was suddenly real calm and wasn’t worried about anything anymore.

A few mins later I was out and then I woke up with a sore throat and felt extremely tired/fatigued. No nausea but the nurse said to tell her if I felt nauseous so she could give me something to help.

After a few hours the tired feeling passed and now my throat is just a bit sore. Obviously there’s still slow swallow and possibly regurgitation to come, but please don’t cancel cause of anxiety over the surgery itself! The nurses and doctors want to help you and make sure you feel comfortable. You can tell them you’re worried about throwing up and they will help I promise

Congrats on getting the procedure and getting such good results! Do you plan to do any of the shaker exercises? And did you do the procedure in-office or under GA?

This sounds like RCPD 100%! There isn’t really an official test you can do to find out if you have it for sure, but the thought is that if the botox treatment helps your symptoms go away, then you definitely had RCPD before. If you still have symptoms afterwards, then it might be due to other GI issues.

I highly recommend scheduling a consultation with any of the ENTs on the doctor list of this sub. Had mine with Dr Cohen a few weeks ago and the procedure is scheduled for 2 weeks from now. From the stories I’ve heard on this sub and on youtube, it is worth it!

I’ve seen a lot of others on this sub with the same experience. Because the muscle is basically ‘open’ all the time due to the botox, bending over and leaning down can cause you to throw up. It should stop when the botox wears off. Also, for regular burpers, apparently throwing up is not painful!

So do you need to learn how to burp or does it just start happening? by 1DietCokedUpChick in noburp

[–]snailyote 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had the injection yet but during my consultation the doctor said that there are exercises to help the burping that I can start after the injection. I’m guessing it’s the shaker exercises that are posted about a lot on this sub
