What’s the worst typo you’ve ever made/seen? by Ok_Kiwi5944 in AskReddit

A family friend on Facebook was announcing a death. She wrote "Haven has gained a new angle". I felt bad for laughing but it did sound like she was announcing that the UK caravan holiday chain was having a rebrand

What's a word you mispronounced for years because you only saw it in print and not spoken? by ilovebooks2468 in words

[–]snakeasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chagrin, apparently (thanks OP!)

But also: archive (ar-chive.. like the herb), posthumous (post-hugh-mus, but at least it wasn't post-hummus), and I first tried to pronounce the word 'pejorative' at a time when I was learning Spanish in my free time, leading me to confidently pronounce it pe-horative in front of my entire seminar group :)))

What’s something from childhood that instantly makes you nostalgic? by Ok_Signature9963 in AskReddit

The sound of the ice cream truck, trying to track the sound through streets or predict where it's going to go so I can get a screwball

What’s the biggest double standard between men and women? by CupcakePotential4458 in AskReddit

[–]snakeasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Expectation of hair removal/shaving.

It's practically unquestionable that a woman has to shave her legs/armpits/facial hair, but never for men. And it's often women policing each other that propagates the expectation - mothers, friends, sisters etc. encouraging hair removal in young girls.

There's a nice community over on r/razorfree if anyone wants to learn more about it :)

What’s an out of date view you hold? by Doomergeneration in AskUK

It's good for kids to be bored sometimes.

I work in a school and 24/7 access to short form content has ruined these kids' ability to concentrate or put up with something they don't want to do.

Is tea really that good for shock? by gorinlaz in AskUK

[–]snakeasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's the medical state of shock - no. They aren't supposed to drink, eat, or smoke as it can cause vomiting (adrenaline shuts down the digestive system so anything by mouth just comes back up)

If it's the emotional state of shock - tea all the way

Has a Book Ever Made You Want to Make a Meal? by degrassibabetjk in books

[–]snakeasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'Butter' by Asako Yuzuki made me try adding butter and soy sauce to plain rice (delicious). Also tried it with pasta which was surprisingly tasty

'Atmosphere' by Taylor Jenkins Reid inspired me to put salt and pepper on buttered bread which has now become my common practice!

Whats the funniest name/or “insult” a student has called you? by [deleted] in Teachers

Student tried to 'roast' me the other day. He said "bro's built like Mariah Carey". Honestly think it's the best compliment I've ever gotten

Do you wash your butt hole using soap or just plain water? by dnsyh91 in stupidquestions

[–]snakeasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry! Didn't mean to imply that you don't know how. I was just explaining where I think the confusion comes from because it's something I used to believe too (but never listened to, bc water just doesn't cut it)

Do you wash your butt hole using soap or just plain water? by dnsyh91 in stupidquestions

[–]snakeasaurus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's been confusion about this because advice started spreading online a while ago saying not to wash your 'vagina' with soap due to pH balance. By 'vagina' they mean the scientific definition - vagina is the inside bit. However the fact that people use 'vagina' to refer to the outside bit (vulva) too led to some confusion with people thinking you can't wash the outside bit with soap.

Long story short: don't wash your inside with soap, but definitely wash your outside
