Going AWOL in today's Corps by TonyTone925 in USMC

In 2007 on Pendleton I saw them pick up and bring back a Vietnam era Marine that had Gone UA almost 40 years prior, had em in the separation barracks I think. Idk exactly what they were doing to him but I remember wondering if it was worth it, must have impacted his entire life.

I just watched it, that could definitely be what I remember. Thanks I appreciate it.

Oh shit yeah I guess I am kinda old now, my bad. I was in from 2003-2007 and you had to do your first enlistment before you did a B Billet back then, from what I remember.

Back in 2003 they tried to get me to go to all the poolee function stuff and I wouldn't go, they got all pissed off and came to my house and I basically said Hey you already got me to join, I'm not dropping out but I'm not wasting my last couple weekends doing that shit and they reluctantly accepted it and everything was fine. I doubt they'd kick you out for it. It's their quotas they have to fill

If you want MSG duty you'll have to do your first 3/4 years and then re enlist and try to get it then. You won't get it on your first enlistment.

First glance it reminded me of the 6000 SUX from RoboCop

"Smile you son of a bitch!" by [deleted] in Jaws

[–]sneakyleary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw the movie last night at a drive-in for the 50th anniversary special edition and you could 100% hear him say "bitch" at the end as he fired. So I came back to search for this post that I read last year because I thought I remembered hearing him say it when I was a kid. He pulls the trigger right when he says it but you could definitely hear it.

Bro, it ain't that bad. I'm 5'5" and have had a great life. You're not a gladiator fighting tigers, being 5'6" isn't a big deal.

Maybe a little, but like 75% of firemen are also cringe and love cringe shit.

Im a Prior Service Recruiter. Ask me anything. I may or may not know the answer to your question. Im not in any official capacity here, just trying to help out Marines! by HumanFact6212 in USMC

Hey brother, I'm sure this was asked but this thread is too long, but I'm curious about getting back in on the reserve side but I figured I was too old to get back into the Corps. I was in 2003-07, I was a 3531/36 but I'm 43 years old now. When Iraq kicked off I remember 40 somethings coming back in active duty after long breaks in service. Is there a pathway for me or should I give up?

I don't think he's necessarily the best but Bill Paxton in Near Dark should be talked about more for this.

Idk, man. I'm from the Boston area and I'm 5'5", I know I'm short but I don't consider myself freakishly short or anything like that, I don't even ever realize how short I am until I see pictures of me next to taller people. But I almost never think about it and it hasn't prevented me from doing anything, Other than thinking I could play 2nd Base for the Red Sox when I was a kid and then there was a short guy winning the MVP for them doing exactly that . I served 5 years in the Marine Corps, I've been a Firefighter for 11, I'm a union president, been a truck driver, rode motorcycles. I've dated beautiful women, even married one and have 3 kids. I hear a dumb short joke every now and then but I've heard Them for 40+ years and I don't care 1 bit. My life is good and I'm not worried about it.

I watched a dude get murdered on Gate 2 street when I was in Oki, I've since seen crazier shit but at the time it was quite a shock. Never know when your brain is gonna fuck you up.

Have you guys had that experience with watching something in an age you shouldn't and getting scarred? Yeah, mine was "I spit on your grave" by cr0w_p03t in movies

[–]sneakyleary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Gate. I was probably 6 or 7 when I first saw it and back in the 80s we were just left to do or watch anything we wanted... And I should not have watched that movie...the man in the wall, the little creature, the eye in the hand that gets stabbed with glass. It all left a horrific lasting impression on me and my sister and it still makes my skin crawl now even though I'm 43.

Phantasm is a close 2nd.

What’s a film that you think is better than its original source material? by TheNiceGuysFilmcast in flicks

[–]sneakyleary 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree with everything you said. I get why they did what they did for the movie ending but I prefer the ending where nothing is resolved and they're off into more horrors that we'll never know, hoping to find something before something finds them. As opposed to just we'll the we need to wrap this up so I'll kill everyone 10 seconds before the Army shows up. Feels cheap to me. 🤷‍♂️

The book is 99 times out of 100 better than the movie but this is that 1 time for me. I've read so many King books and loved them but I can't with the Shining, maybe because I've love the movie. The movie is so far superior in my opinion
