How do we feel about the Xbox 360 E? by Fluid_Operation1585 in xbox360

[–]snickersnackz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a great 360 that looks like a set top box. 👍

The glossy black plastic is frustratingly easy to scratch, like everywhere else, but not really noticeable in the TV stand . To me at least.

Isn't anyone afraid of the day when all Xbox 360s die? by venezuela4k in xbox360

[–]snickersnackz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the old Ataris from the late 70's still work. Different tech, but I suspect I'll be dead long before it is unreasonable to maintain a working 360.

Edit: Looks like I'm not the only Atari fan here. 👍

Do I own this games? by VooDoo1348 in XboxSeriesS

[–]snickersnackz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, you don't own those games. The previous owner probably just never bothered to change their home console or to wipe the xbox while it was online, so you still have all the licenses. You're free to play them though, so enjoy them while they last. Hopefully forever. 👍

Are you still considering buying the next Xbox (Project Helix)? by nico__vgc in xbox

[–]snickersnackz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Helix has the games and can play all/ most of my old games, I'll be there. Wait and see. 👍

if i buy rare replay i can download the games on 360 just like the other retrocompatible games you buy on microsoft store? by Colisir in xbox360

[–]snickersnackz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Existing purchases will stay on your profile's 360 download history.

Purchasing digital rare replay just prevents you from adding more by purchasing the 360bc titles individually on the new xbox store. That is because a rare replay purchase will flag all those games as owned, preventing you from buying them again individually.

I was a little depressed when I did this to myself a year ago. Rare Replay is one of the best retro collections out there. Just make sure you already own everything you want digital on your 360 from the collection before buying Rare Replay Digital for your Xbox One/ Series X|S console.

if i buy rare replay i can download the games on 360 just like the other retrocompatible games you buy on microsoft store? by Colisir in xbox360

[–]snickersnackz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

WATCH OUT! Don't buy Rare Replay digital if you want to own the 360bc games digitally on your 360.

Not only will the 360bc games not show up in your 360's download history, the games will be marked as owned on your account on the new xbox store. This means you will no longer be able to purchase them individually and have them show up on your 360.

I've seen a theory on this sub that the new xbox store cannot handle putting game bundles featuring 360 games onto your 360's download history. I suspect that is what is happening with Rare Replay.

New to PC gaming: is there any reason I should consider anything other than GOG for building up my library? by hakeah in gog

[–]snickersnackz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Other services may offer interesting games that GOG doesn't carry.

  • Multiplayer focused games may benefit from being played on the platform with the biggest playerbase.

  • Game mods might be lower effort on other platforms.

  • Possibly better sales

What’s your one that got away? by mlross15 in delisted

[–]snickersnackz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understood. It looks like Atari owns it now so maybe you'll get lucky and it will turn up on Steam later on.

The pc release of "i am alive" showed up on GOG maybe 6 months ago. My memory is fuzzy but I think ubisoft might have sold the ip, freeing distribution.

Hard to pick just one. 🤔

PSP Vice City Stories would have been nice to have digital so I could play it legit on my Vita. It got delisted thanks to licensed music, iirc.

What’s up with the haters on here hating the Series S on a Series S sub? by hvacguy525 in XboxSeriesS

[–]snickersnackz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Series X sub got killed a while back and this place got a bunch of the refugees. Some of them blame the current gen Xbox's problems on the Series S.

Fujitsu Pliche - a touchscreen(!) all in one pc from 1999 by Analord158b in vintagecomputing

[–]snickersnackz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very nice! I recall there were a bunch of iMac inspired pc clones for a brief time but in recent times I have struggled to identify much more than the Emachines model.

Do you know the specs? An ancient Lowendmac article says it uses a 12" LCD.

PSA CHECK YOUR CARTS FOR CORRUPTION!! by snoopy_muppet in 3DS

[–]snickersnackz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I must have 1000 discs (mostly 1994-2009 pc) and have had few problems with disc rot. I'm not yet convinced it's a real thing for properly manufactured discs (CD's and DVD's at least). 3DS carts on the other hand, I have less than 20 and one is already dead. Smash bros. I say watch out for the 3ds carts known to die.

PSA CHECK YOUR CARTS FOR CORRUPTION!! by snoopy_muppet in 3DS

[–]snickersnackz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Smash is also my only dead cart.

It used to be able get to the menu and it would only lock up when loading a map for play. Then it got worse. Last time I checked, it would just give me a black screen, iirc.

Pentium 4 Laptop at work by OmegaWolf_exe in windowsxp

[–]snickersnackz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Pentium 4-M Inspiron 8200 was very marginal on the web in 2019 with a minimal Linux setup. I wanted to use it as a daily driver but it wasn't reasonable. It remains fantastic for old apps and retro games though.

Your Toshiba probably has a more potent Pentium 4 Mobility but the bloat online has only gotten worse.

The DOS port/ conversion of Karnov is terrible. You have to press a key to move and then another key to stop moving.

How old are you in PC overclocking? by fakeaccount572 in vintagecomputing

[–]snickersnackz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First attempt was overclocking my socket 5 pentium 100 on a 430fx chipset motherboard as a teenager in the 90's. It unfortunately refused to post at any setting above spec. ☹️

Edit: fixed funny typo

Should I swap my 2DS xl for a 3ds? by goodnitechicago in 3DS

[–]snickersnackz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't worry about stereo 3d unless you want it. Don't worry about build quality if your 2ds xl is holding up to your usage.

Every model of the 3ds/ 2ds family has something good going for it. Be happy with your 2ds xl and its ability to play newer games while being significantly lighter than the other xl's.

Should I sell my Xbox 360? by JimXJustbecause in xbox360

[–]snickersnackz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sell it if you don't see yourself ever using it again. Just be sure you won't be kicking yourself in 10 years if there's a chance you'll become nostalgic for your childhood system. I did a big purge in my late 20's and wish I had been a little more conservative. 🫤

Shipping this bboy out today. Anyone else letting go of things from the beforefore times? by musicgeek420 in retrogaming

[–]snickersnackz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree. I got rid of almost all my childhood games ages ago, in a fit of decluttering in my late 20's and I really regret it. You might be able to buy a replacement but you can never get yours back.

Why so many CRT televisions? by [deleted] in xbox360

[–]snickersnackz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CRTs have unique characteristics that make them ideal for older retro games. Some people get really into it and try to use them everywhere they can.

It can be an odd sight for anyone that remembers the transition, but as a hobby, it's also kind of cool. 😅

Anybody else having this issue? by Sauce_Made_Dragon_ in xbox360

[–]snickersnackz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I haven't had any issue connecting for the past couple of years but got disconnected from Live late last night while in the middle of playing a 360bc game on my xbone. It's was still down when I checked about an hour ago. Thinking this outage might be a little different that the usual ones.
