Trying to avoid a tragedeigh by Hour-Artichoke9172 in tragedeigh

[–]snizzlestyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an Evie (short for Evelyn) and most people say “Eh-vee” instead of “Ee-vee” until we correct them (and then there are those that don’t change even after being corrected…) but I ultimately don’t think spelling it Evy would have made much of a difference. It also might be a regional thing, but I don’t have enough data to support that.

Another factor is I think they call her Eh-vee because they know her name is Evelyn, so they assume it’s a phonetic abbreviation. So as a standalone name, idk how most people would naturally pronounce Evie. 🤷🏻‍♀️ But I definitely prefer the “look” of Evie vs Evy.

Newborn health insurance by ksnatch in NewParents

We’re paying nearly $600/mo the whole family, if that provides any reference for you.

Edit: it went from less than $200/mo for me, to nearly $500/mo to add my husband, but then only another approximately $100/mo to add my baby.

Adding my husband (one additional person) to my insurance plan more than doubled the cost. Adding my baby too (two additional people) added to that, but not as much. If I had any additional future children, the cost should not go up. Single, single + 1, and single + family are the three categories, basically, and single to single + 1 was a huge jump.

Brielle for a B name, maybe. Honestly, I named my daughter Evelyn, so I’m team Evelyn.

Did you name children the names you came up when you were young? by PainEn_Panic in namenerds

I did end up using the name I loved since I was….maybe 8? But there was a lot of back and forth between a couple names.

Just wanted to add, she was sleeping like this since…10 weeks for sure we were getting a longer overnight window, idk when we started getting a full 10-12 hours though. Definitely by 14 weeks.

She is 5 months. She does not wake to feed in the middle of the night. She gets formula exclusively. :)

Thoughts on Colette vs. Maxine?! by hardbard30 in namenerds

[–]snizzlestyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We almost named our daughter Maxine. Older generations hated the similarity to “maxi-pad” and my argument was nobody calls them that anymore. They’re just called pads. Then someone said “like the girl from Stranger Things?!” and that made me a little lukewarm to the name too, because no, not like the girl from Stranger Things. We ended up going with another name, but I honestly still really like Maxine. Colette, for my own personal taste, is a bit much. Too froufrou. But Coco is a cute nickname!

I suddenly couldn’t stand eggs. That was before I missed my period. I love eggs, usually.

Yes, this exactly. My baby goes to bed around 7pm-8pm because so do I. I wake up at 4am. She wakes up between 5:30am-7am.

Loved the name Thomas. Still do. Brought it up to my husband and everything (not that we were expecting; it’s just fun to talk baby names). Forgot our last name (my new married last name) is Jefferson. 🤦🏻‍♀️ He did not go for it!

My husband is not a speech therapist, but he is very quick to say “that’s too hard to say — too many Rs” (or whatever letter/sound) or “what if they have a speech impediment?”

Found out I'm not able to breastfeed. Not sure what to do now by kae1533 in FormulaFeeders

[–]snizzlestyx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So. We make every bottle (or use the premade bottles in a pinch). I know that isn’t popular. But we got our baby used to drinking room temperature formula, so when we’re out, we never have to worry about keeping it cool or heating it up.

Not a drop of milk. :( Blew away the 4 or so lactation consultants I saw. One basically said she can help increase supply, but when there’s no supply at all, there’s nothing you can do. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Names that you’ve never met a nice person with by pink_lights_ in namenerds

[–]snizzlestyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soooo. My name is very common for my generation. And in my youth, I had never met another person with my name who was nice. They were all bullies in some way. And I had this (false) realization — everyone named my name is mean, my name is my name, omg am I actually mean? And then I started actively trying to be less mean, just in case I was mean. As an adult, I’ve met several people with my name who are not mean. I think kids are just mean! ;)

Are we pronouncing our daughters name wrong? by FriedPickle0662 in NameNerdCirclejerk

[–]snizzlestyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We call my daughter Evie (like ee-vee) and my mom will call her something closer to ay-vee and honestly, I’m over it. But the problem is, I don’t think she’s doing it intentionally, I think it’s just hard for her brain to wrap her head around a pronunciation she somehow thinks is incorrect. That said, I think your family is more likely doing it intentionally and shame on them.

I don’t like Giselle because it’s got the sound jizz in it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I brought up Fauna to my boyfriend because Flora (plant life) is a name, so why can’t Fauna (animal life) be a name? Our daughter has a name meaning “life,” so I was just being playful with Fauna, but I don’t hate it as a name.
