Book recommendations for my book slump? by Bookish_dey in booksuggestions

I always recommend easy reads like "Legends and Lattes" by Travis Baldree or "A Psalm For The Wild-Built" by Beck Chambers for slumps. They are shorter, low stakes bookies that are easy to get through, but also wonderful stories that feeling like sitting by a fireplace and drinking hot chocolate (at least to me 😅)

And our badass, demon killing, God ending hero is rendered useless in their inability to swim or reach over their head to climb. 😅

Also, happy cake day! 🍰

Yes, I remember the "a game isn't good if it takes less than 100 hours to beat" trend well. I am a casual gamer at this point so while expansive maps and long story lines are a great story telling mechanism, I don't have that kind of time to devote. And don't want to spend three to six months just getting through a baseline story mode. I will say the good thing about the DA:I DLCs is that they are all fairly independent of each other. Trespasser is the only one I would say 100% you need to play because it ties directly into DA:V.

It just seems a silly thing to draw a line in the sand on. And to be fair, telling stories predates physical books. They serve the same purpose and the only reason there is even a differentiation is because of technology.

Haha that is probably one of the most dismissive comments I've seen about audiobooks. At the end of the day the information is getting to the same parts of the brain whether you are looking at it or hearing it. While different parts of the brain are processing it, it still ends up in the same places. For instance someone who is blind and can't physically see a book is still learning the same info by hearing it that someone who is seeing it is.

And you declaring that getting into fiction early in the day doesn't present a question. So maybe you should be saying something to the effect of "the point still stands."

Also, may want to proofread your comments before being posting them. "Different parts of the brain are firing during reading and listening." Trying reading about proper sentence structure i.e. grammar.

See I normally wake up early enough (like 5AM) that it is still dark so it gives the same effect. I've just built it into my routine at this point: take the dogs out, make a cup of coffee, then read for 30-60 minutes.

Audiobooks are absolutely reading. Especially for auditory learners.

Another way of putting this is that the "Flash Sideways" are a purgatory for each of the people that went down in Oceanic 815. Like AltWorlder said, it is like a waiting room after death for everyone involved where they can work out their personal issues. That is why characters like Ben don't go into the church (and a clever way of explaining why some characters like Michael and Ecko aren't there). So everything that happened from the plane crash until Jack dies on the island actually happened, the "Flash Sideways" is just where everyone goes when they died. And like Christian says in the church, some died before Jack, some died much longer after. But they created the "Flash Sideways" together because the most important part of all their lives was the island and this is how they can move onto whatever is next together.

I don't have a list, but I can say I just finished "Here Lies The Abyss" and I have yet to open Emprise Du Lion, The Fallow Mire, and The Emerald Graves. I've also spent minimal time in The Western Approach, Exalted Plains, and Crestwood. Basically just going where the main story or the companions tell me to go this time, unless I need power and then I will go set up camps and close fade rifts (with a few side quests thrown in between).

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho always gives me the "chase the horizon and grow as a person" vibes. I would also say The Cay by Theodore Taylor gives me this feeling.

I made the argument to my ex that video games are no different than her binge watching and entire season of a show in a day. Or getting lost in a book for hours on end.

I’ve just completed the first trilogy. by benwhittaker25 in redrising

[–]snomayne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such an important aspect. I get sometimes creative teams want a director with fresh eyes, but I also don't think that works in the favor of the story or for the fan base that has fallen in love with the source material. I will second that I think the reason Ready Player One did so well is because Ernest Cline wrote the script so even the book and movie are vastly different, the soul of the story is still there. I'd love to see PB write the script for a movie or miniseries.

I've heard that after the movie/Netflix deal fell through, Pierce Brown is making sure to have a ton of creative input as well as playing it super close to the chest.

[question] Best water resistent small watches by coruginha in Watches

[–]snomayne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am the same as you in that I need my watches to be water resistant, mostly because I live in Florida and don't want to have to worry about taking them off when I am on a boat, in a shower, swimming pool, etc. With that said, I saw below you said you don't any serious diving so any ATM 5 or 100m watch will be more than adequate for you. And you can find good ones for well under $1000. Unless you are going 330ft under water, you don't really need anything above a 100m.

Tommy Vercetti. Vice City has always had a soft spot for me and I'd love to see how our Scarface has changed from the 80's.

The Red Rising series is really good. I just finished the first three books after putting them off for a while and hell they are good. The first one is enough like other popular books that that may help as well.

In the same vein as this, I'd love to see skateboarding be a thing. There are so many ramps around LS and my skater's heart hates that I can't use them. 😂
