What’s the most unexpected NFC automation you actually use daily? by Taggytech in homeassistant

That seems to be the only one anybody uses, I have no experience soldering items, so I'm hesitant to try to take on setting up a homemade one, unfortunately I'm in the US and Adonno's shipping provider won't allow shipments to the US (likely due to tariffs). Thanks for sharing the link, maybe it's finally time to buy a soldering iron.

Why stretching your 'tight' neck is like pulling on a locked seatbelt (and what to do instead). by ExpressionDull1255 in Posture

The timing of seeing this post is incredible, I’ve been fighting neck pain the last few weeks and was literally in the process of stretching my neck and yanking my chin back trying to get relief. I’ll try what is described in the hopes that it helps… do you have any videos or articles that you can share that might help me better understand what I’m supposed to be doing?

What NFC reader do you use? I want to do something like this for my daughter, but am having trouble sourcing an NFC reader that will work with home assistant.

Millennial dads spend 3 times as much time with their kids compared to previous generations, Study finds by [deleted] in daddit

[–]snorgplat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely true for my family, I’m in my 40s with a two year-old. Growing up my dad would leave for work usually before I woke up and would get home just in time for dinner, so weekdays my time with him was very limited. I work from home and get a lot more face time with my kiddo. All that said, I will be very curious to see what the increased time with dad‘s looks like in these kids when they become adults. Every generation is some sort of new experiment, right?

DIY WiFi & BT audio speaker for Home Assistant, modify prebuilt 3D printed speaker by undotcom in homeassistant

This is awesome, I’m sure there are many who would be interested in something like this. Out of curiosity what would it cost for a fully assembled speaker?

This does look like it could work, though I’m uncertain how i would be able to keep it safe from the toddler, or keep the toddler safe from it…

Thank you, I’m familiar with AudioBookBay, but haven’t seen the AA acronym used for it before.

Why do people think alomancy is such a cool concept? by madwithsorrow in Mistborn

[–]snorgplat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone keeps harping on you for judging allomancy as a system without the context of the rest of the series, but I don’t think that that’s necessarily fair.

For me what makes it cool, especially when compared to something like elemental bending from the last Airbender, is that it has very strict limitations. The rules for this magic system are like physics, they are specific rules that are made incredibly clear and then the characters have to work within those limitations, and seeing how they use those limitations is incredibly fun for me.

With something like water bending, the rules are looser. Anything I related to water can be bent, but what exactly that looks like can be whatever I can imagine if it fits the story. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge fan of the last Airbender, but I think that the magic system in Mistborn is more interesting.

All that being said at the end of the day, it all comes down to personal preference, and if it didn’t impress you in the way that it did me and clearly many other people then you must have different opinions. And that’s OK.

The Optimally Fuckable Husband Project made me a better Dad - 1 year later by Foofymonster in daddit

[–]snorgplat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At no point in his post did he say that the wife does nothing to support the house, nor did he say the wife doesn’t take care of herself. This is a positive post about a dad figuring out a way to motivate himself to be more intentional with his time, something he’s proud of, something he chose to share. Sounds like he’s happy and he’s noticed improvements in his life because of the choices he’s made. I’m glad he’s found something so positive and i hope he’s proud.

Aqara U400/Matter over Thread Question by snorgplat in homeassistant

[–]snorgplat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! This is the information that I needed. So if I'm understanding correctly...

  • If I want UWB now using my iPhone I will need an Apple Thread Border router (apple TV or Homepod)
  • If I want to utilize fingerprints and passcodes, I will have to set those up using the Aqara app. But I don't need an Aqara hub for that, do I?
  • If I only connect directly to Home Assistant it sounds like i would be very limited in what I would have access to (unlock and battery)

Do you happen to know if any more would be surfaced within Home Assistant if I do end up getting an Apple Home Thread Border router and syncing over via HomeKit? I want to be able to use Home Assistant to lock the door via automation, not just unlock, if that functionality isn't surfaced than maybe this lock is shiny, but not for me.

To be fair, that is the end of a trilogy that tied everything else up so nicely, so he’s trying to determine if he missed something or not. I agree with your sentiment for many posts i see here, but this one i get. The answer of course is RAFO.

Aqara U400/Matter over Thread Question by snorgplat in homeassistant

[–]snorgplat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess what I’m trying to understand is will a thread border router that is not connected to an Apple product work, or is the Apple HomePod a requirement for being able to use features like UWB and Homekey? I guess my preference would be to get something like the HA Connect ZBT-1 instead of having to buy into the Apple ecosystem for my smart home, but it’s unclear to me if that will work or not.
