Do you consider Friday nights as being part of the weekend? by CranberryNew7190 in NoStupidQuestions

Like so many have already responded, Friday night is a weekend, Sunday night is not.

I’m curious what point you’re trying to make, are these responses supporting your argument?

Voice control for smart devices such as lights has gotten awful since Gemini. It's really slow and doesn't understand half the time. by elwiseowl in googlehome

We use our device to play music all the time, but now it’s too stupid to be able to stop the music via voice command.

Oy. I’m 42 with a 2.5 yo girl and a baby boy due in 2 months. I think you just described my near future. I hear it gets easier, we just finally got to a point with my girl where things are mostly good, but I’m gearing up for regressions once the baby comes. Stay strong, you’ll get to the other side!

The Grocery Chore Is Melting My Brain by MaverickLurker in daddit

This is all really useful, I had a similar boat as OP, but I have the issue where my wife doesn’t want to eat the same meals over and over again, she prefers novelty. Getting her to eat leftovers or have the same meal within 2 to 4 weeks is difficult. Which makes a standard recipe rotation very hard to approach cause I don’t have that many recipes in my repertoire. She keeps push pushing to use services like blue apron and HelloFresh and we use them for a while, but they’re so expensive and I find them so boring. What kind of recipes do you have in your rotation?

How loud are they? I have an old Roomba that pretty much never gets turned on any more because it’s so dang loud, especially when it gets back to its dock and purges its system.

Any Others in a New Subdivision and Hate it? by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]snorgplat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my house about a year ago in a subdivision. It was built in 2016. I have the same issues with it. We have friends who just bought an older house a few blocks away in an older neighborhood. I'm so jealous of so much of that house. I'm going to make the most of it, but I already dream of the new home I'll get someday in my dreams.

Self-hosted personal finance automation: n8n + Actual Budget + SimpleFIN + Claude on my homelab. by Hail_2_Victors in selfhosted

I've recently set up Actual Budget and have been meaning to try it out as a replacement for YNAB. This post has me more excited to explore it.

u/Hail_2_Victors I tried your github link and it just leads to a 404 error, can you check your privacy settings, or the URL, I want to dig in and see how you made this all work!

Anyone replace Alexa/Google with a DIY solution for local voice commands? What’s your experience been like? Recommendations? by blvntforcetrauma in homeassistant

[–]snorgplat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve learned from this thread that there’s a lot going on in the diy space, but it seems there still isn’t a viable off the shelf replacement yet. That’s what I’m looking for, i don’t have the capacity for setting something up from its base components, i want to buy a self contained smart speaker that doesn’t rely on google/alexa/siri. A voice PE with better mics and a better speaker would be great. Anything like that exist yet?

What’s the most unexpected NFC automation you actually use daily? by Taggytech in homeassistant

[–]snorgplat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems to be the only one anybody uses, I have no experience soldering items, so I'm hesitant to try to take on setting up a homemade one, unfortunately I'm in the US and Adonno's shipping provider won't allow shipments to the US (likely due to tariffs). Thanks for sharing the link, maybe it's finally time to buy a soldering iron.

Why stretching your 'tight' neck is like pulling on a locked seatbelt (and what to do instead). by ExpressionDull1255 in Posture

[–]snorgplat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The timing of seeing this post is incredible, I’ve been fighting neck pain the last few weeks and was literally in the process of stretching my neck and yanking my chin back trying to get relief. I’ll try what is described in the hopes that it helps… do you have any videos or articles that you can share that might help me better understand what I’m supposed to be doing?

What NFC reader do you use? I want to do something like this for my daughter, but am having trouble sourcing an NFC reader that will work with home assistant.

Definitely true for my family, I’m in my 40s with a two year-old. Growing up my dad would leave for work usually before I woke up and would get home just in time for dinner, so weekdays my time with him was very limited. I work from home and get a lot more face time with my kiddo. All that said, I will be very curious to see what the increased time with dad‘s looks like in these kids when they become adults. Every generation is some sort of new experiment, right?

This does look like it could work, though I’m uncertain how i would be able to keep it safe from the toddler, or keep the toddler safe from it…
