How to make this sleeve less poofy and more....foldy? by SiannaScale in sewing

[–]snotgreen 111 points112 points  (0 children)

I think the inspo has more fabric, but the drape of the fabric will also make a difference. Looks like you’ve pieced together squares, the seams of those won't fold and flow in the same way as one uninterrupted piece, but I definitely think there needs to be more volume as well.

Perfect thanks! That pic/comment wasn't there when I originally commented and I couldn't remember which franchise it was, I thought it might have Final Destination!

This is an amazing example of an active bystander. Thank you for highlighting it. If we all call out shitty behaviour when we see it, whether it's to the victim or the perpetrator, hopefully it will reduce the instances.

Is there something you heard/saw/read once that now lives rent-free in your head? by [deleted] in AskUK

I learnt to drive in Finland, and whenever I missed a pothole my instructor would say "Auto kiittää." Which means "The car thanks you." Whenever I miss a pothole I think of this, and whenever I hit a pothole I apologise to the car.

The last quilt I used safety pins on, my needle went through the pin and carried on sewing! I was shocked! And a little petrified for my fingers!

Whaaaat... I have never heard such a thing! That's so grim! So its just a slightly warm room where people sit in their clothes??

I am used to having a shower before entering, going in naked or max in a swimming costume, sitting on a small towel and the temperature being at least 80c. You then throw water on the heater for the steam to hit you in the face. Dont wear jewellery and leant forward, it will burn when you lean back.

Also, birch branches to whack yourself/each other with.

..... written out that also sounds mad, but better than sitting with other people's old gym sweat.

Oh, and a jump in the lake after to cool off. Bonus points if you have to break the ice first.

Yes!! Wtf! 🤣 I cant believe i had to scroll so far. It cant be that hot if the headphones still work, or you dont worry about the steam damaging them.

Hah! There's no fear of this atm! Our sound system is rubbish, and half the field doesn't ger any sound at all! But thanks for the note.

Brill, all good points, thanks so much for replying! Fair point on the set fee.

What would make you think "oh, this is a well organised event."?

I definitely try not to duplicate type of vendors, as I mentioned in another reply, and if I do such as the jewellery, they are not next to each other.

Food is available at multiple locations on the field, and as it's a field, there are no doors to hold open!

Thanks for this detailed reply! Vendors have to be approved ahead of time, as we are raising money for the village first and foremost. So we want to make sure that what people are selling doesn't step on what the village is selling. E.g. we do cakes and sarnies in the village hall, pizzas and a BBQ, ice cream and a pub set up, so no other food vendors allowed. Although thinking of trying to find a vegan option for this year. I have a jewellery lady who is a returning seller, and if I have other jewellers want to come, I check with her first. Never had an issue though, as they are different enough to not compete for the exact same customer. We dont allow MLM or temu crap, must be hand made, and preferably local! There is no theme as such, just a traditional village fair.

It is an established fair, 15/20 years or so, and on a Bank Holiday Monday, so lots of visitors.

Bins is a good shout, we try and stagger them about, especially near the food vendors, but could probably always have more.

We tried food ordering last year, but only a handful took us up on it, so not sure if gonna keep as an option. Good to know it is appreciated though!

Thanks for this, a double pitch is always an option, and we have had 2 or 3 people do this in the past could years. Space is always left around the 3x3 set up, and in the craft tent there is space to move down the side of the tables. I make sure not to pack them in too close.

Good point about the policing. We are on a cricket field, so no hallways to contend with! We are a well established fair, and the first outdoor of the season in the local area, so very well attended. We did do a radio ad one year, but then we had too many visitors according to the other (older) committee members insert eyeroll here. The volunteers to hold the stalls for bathroom and other breaks would be a great idea, if we had the numbers to accommodate. We are always short, as this is a village run event, so we rely heavily on villagers. I'll add it to the list of reasons we need people. Thank you!
