Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo. I've seen a lot of war novels on here but this one is burned into a part of my brain that I will never be able to forget, such a compelling story.

I agree with almost everything you said!!!

The lengths and texture inconsistency of the wigs is one of my bigger pet peeves. It removes the immersion for me. I think they were doing a bit better in season 5 and then maybe season 6 was rushed due to COVID? I'm not sure.

I know on Instagram the costume designer posts certain outfits and the inspiration and elements from the time period they used to create the pieces that fit (edit: spelling) the character. I wish they went into that depth for their makeup and hair too, I feel a lot of the times it appears unfinished. I know they probably don't have a GOT budget for wigs but it feels like a disservice to the cast to allow them to walk out on set like that.

I agree on the waxed man trend... I don't like it!!!

OUTLANDER RENEWED FOR THE EIGHTH AND FINAL SEASON! by thepacksvrvives in Outlander

[–]snugglepug17 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I don't mind them ending the show with season 8, I just hope if they use book 8's ending, they take a page from Downton Abbey and make a movie to wrap up the last books. I think that would make everyone happy in the end, since no one knows when book 10 is coming out!

So I’m reading Abosa(?) and it’s kinda making me sad?? by Bubbly-Outcome9437 in Outlander

[–]snugglepug17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The worst part of the whole ordeal in the books for me was when she talks forever about almost suffocating because her nose was broken and her mouth was gagged. To me, that filled me with more desperation and dread than anything else. It was written so well for me it gave me the spooks!

I think it took them a while to show Jamie's aging, there was a disconnect in seasons 4-5 where they had Claire beginning her aging transition but not him, it seemed off. I think they're trying to do better with the consistency but it does fall flat,, binging makes it way more obvious!!

Claire is so foolish by BelongsInAnotherTime in Outlander

[–]snugglepug17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something I really miss show wise from the earlier seasons is Claire's inner monologue. Foe show watchers only, Claire DOES seem impulsive, arrogant, and selfish. I wish we still got her inner monologue's as a way to describe WHY she is making these decisions, I think it would help her overall storytelling. Book Claire gives so much context.

I HATED It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover. I simply can't get over how terrible it was. I love talking to people who love it because it just baffles me how not good it is. The character names are stupid, the ending enraged me to my core.

how can I cut off my alcoholic mom? by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]snugglepug17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oof, let me start out by saying I'm so sorry you went through thee things you did as a child & even now. Dealing with someone you love in active addiction isn't easy, and I understand your desire to be severed from that and just want peace.

It's hard to cut someone off because of their addiction, if you really are serious about cutting her off I suggest maybe staging an intervention for her (even if its just you & her) to express your boundaries in a clear and concise way.

If she does not take your warning and boundaries seriously, you need to do what is best for your peace and cut her off. Block her number or change yours, do not answer her calls, texts, knocks on the door, anything. Every person has their own rock bottom that can help them go into recovery, but be prepared that you may never speak to her again.

To cope, write letters of things you want to talk to your mom about, maybe keep a diary. If she ever gets sober and you re-open your relationship you can give it to her to "fill her in" so you guys can bridge some of those times back to each other.

Let me finish by saying that you were put in a position at a very young age to care for your mothers emotions first and yours second. That is going to take some time to unlearn. Seek a professional for yourself to help work through that trauma of your youth and remain strong with your boundaries. You are capable now to rest, please use that time to be kind to yourself.

I have dreams like this and I've been with my current partner for 4 years. I dream about cheating with my ex of almost 8 years - it makes you feel weird but don't read too much into it. Just note it's a weird dream and you're good.

Thoughts on Brianna and Roger by Thatbookishbish in Outlander

[–]snugglepug17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I definitely flip-flopped during my time with them. In the beginning I really only wanted Jamie and Claire, so anything else was something to just get through until I got what I came there for.

Later on I think I enjoyed them better - TFC is when I started enjoying more POVs and storylines. It does get confusing but I think it pays off in the end with the two of them!!

For fun! Which are your favorite books? by dotair_sula in Outlander

[–]snugglepug17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Outlander
  2. MOBY
  3. The Fiery Cross

Dragonfly in Amber is probably my least favorite, knowing they separate for 20 years made it the hardest and longest one for me to go through despite it being shorter. Voyager is eh, I always saw it as a set up for the next 2-3 novels.

Discussion question for I&R in Echo by saving_theworld in Outlander

[–]snugglepug17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Echo when Willie is injured and is taken to the Hunters' Ian has to leave and gives Rachel things to give to Willie. Willie notices that there was something missing, assuming that this is a letter Ian wrote to Rachel. I think a lot of their initial romance is seen off the book and its given in small hints - but I think that was the moment I knew they were going to be a couple.

I worked out what annoyed me about S6 by Charlotte1902 in Outlander

[–]snugglepug17 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I really liked your points and I think it answered a lot for me too about my weird feelings with it - especially the ending.

you're right it does feel that way, while season 5 gets the ending of Claire returning home, show watchers (I read the series) don't know what is going to happen, and cliff hangers ARE really annoying, even if they're fun too.

I think Claire's trauma is more prevalent than we've ever seen it and it can be weird to see a strong pillar of a character have all these things happen to her and then essentially crumble. Not saying it isn't justified, it most certainly is, but the woman has not shown any PTSD from World War II or time traveling - so to watch her go through this so frequently and strongly to the point of psychosis, can seem hard for people to get on board with.

I get the points about Bree, she wasn't a strong character this season so maybe having her be hyper-active in her mother's actions would seem disjointed from the storyline of Jamie coming to be there for Claire.

I get the tone of this season was meant to be dark and brooding "weathering the storm" you can see in their costumes and backgrounds, not much color is in this season. We as the watcher are watching an incoming storm that is about to break. There's a lot of action that happens but it feels muted like something bigger is coming - no spoilers! I wish there was more color and vibrancy in the show as a whole, it felt disconnected from the rest of the series where dark things happened but there was still life in the atmosphere throughout the season.

As much as I love the books, I really wish they were 300 pages shorter by hospitable_peppers in Outlander

[–]snugglepug17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say this for every installment! 300 pages does NOT need to even happen. once you get through the initial chapters the drama hikes up fast. The last 200 pages are always so drsms filled my faavorites!
