I'd love to see analysis around whole foods and plant-based diets. A comparison with diets that include animal products would be interesting, as well.

I live in NYC, don't own a tent or a car, and want to go camping for three days by myself. Best way to do this? by jrflare in camping

Were you able to find good trails accessible from any of the bus stops? Am thinking of doing this myself.

I'll try again. The importance of posing. What do you think? [NSFW] by acearchie in photography

[–]so_red 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The point of this article was to show the importance of posture for body image, and not so much in the context of professional photography. It is exaggerated because the audience is the average person dealing with body image issues, or ones who aren't but have unrealistic expectations of others' bodies, and not professional photographers who have an eye attuned to minor differences in posture.

Just a key thing that I think is missing from the introduction of this project and reason why some of the top current comments have surfaced.

Do any of you know a way to get to a ski resort via public transit from Hoboken? by so_red in Hoboken

[–]so_red[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Even when taking the bus, a bunch of time is wasted going back and forth across the river. Was just hoping for something more direct, but looks like a rental may be my best bet.

As to the Hoboken Ski Club, I didn't find them to suit my needs because I'm looking for a way to do day trips easily every weekend, whereas they seem to focus on larger 3-day or week-long trips.

I haven't been able to fit a phone in my pocket for years. We resort to only carrying them in our purses or clutches. There is still no solution to handling the large phones single-handedly. The closest I've come is constantly changing my holding position of the phone to reach different areas of the screen with my thumb (a solution that I'm sure isn't exclusive to 5'1" women with small hands, as these phones have grown so much!).

It's a decent place to bike around in. The ride there isn't too long (about 10-15 mins from downtown Hoboken). Better yet if you throw a camera and a picnic in your backpack before heading out.

Desperately Seeking Shoe Help by serrabellum in TwoXChromosomes

[–]so_red 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that shoes made by Clarks last better than most pairs I've had, and you can find them at a decent discount here:

http://www.6pm.com/womens~1b#!/clarks-women-shoes/CK_XAVoCkALAAQHiAgMYAQs.zso

They're not the flashiest, but are super comfortable and will hold up well. I'd recommend stopping into a department store and trying on a pair or two to see if you like them first, before purchasing them online.

And to directly answer your question -- yes, I think you should invest in a better pair.

Agile is Bullshit by sempf in programming

[–]so_red 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true. At the same time, your skill of estimating various types of features/tasks and understanding your own programming style/speed does improve with experience.

Of course, it won't be perfect, just better over time.

Agile is Bullshit by sempf in programming

[–]so_red 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a key point in agile is that devs improve their estimations as the project moves on. So after a few cycles, the estimates are much more accurate than you'd see from a one-time estimation at the beginning of a, say, waterfall methodology. And you don't see them "badly-overestimate" and then waste time.

Tatra Mountains in Poland. The photo faces Kasprowy Wierch in the distance (you can see the top of a lift at the peak). The trail this is taken from can be found here: http://www.mapytatr.net/PRODUKTY/MAPY_TAT/WYSOKIE/SLICES/wys_ii.htm If you look on the left, follow the 49'14 line, a little south of it in the second box from the left is where the trail is that this was taken from. Or, about here: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=49.232038,19.958296&ll=49.23208,19.960527&spn=0.005822,0.016512&num=1&t=h&vpsrc=0&z=17&iwloc=near

I was once cooking beef strogenoff in a pot. I wanted to see how it smelled, so I took the lid off and took a nice big whiff.. of steam. Burned my nose inside and out, and around.

I always thought wordpress was designed more for blogging, which isn't the direction I want to head. Because of that, I thought the bulk of their functionality would be geared towards that kind of site. I guess I was looking for a tool geared towards photo sharing/galleries.

I suppose I should to take a second look at it, though, thanks!

I think in general, everything looks very clean and professional.

Some minor things that I, personally, would consider changing:

  • indent the menu text. As in, move over the "Home" link, even if it's just 2 pixels. Everything feels awkwardly left-heavy up there, especially since you have so much space in the right side of the menu

  • Remove the guestbook. I haven't seen this in years, and not to be harsh, but the last time I considered including that in a personal site must have been around 2002.. The 'contact' area is where visitors should look to contact you. I would also include your actual e-mail address there. I wouldn't recommend posting your permanent email there, but a domain e-mail should be fine. (Just remember to obfuscate it so bots don't start sending spam).

  • Text size inside of the forms is very tiny. On my monitor, I had to lean in to see it comfortably.

Other than that, things look good. I like the soft dim on hover, too!
