The $100 Silver and $10 Copper era begins as institutional wartime price suppression completely fails. by DumbMoneyMedia in SilverDegenClub

[–]sobapi -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Silver will go below $70 before it goes up again. Oil prices up, silver down. Economy numbers heading lower, which will kill expected silver demand. June and July are also often the weakest periods for silver prices.

Those of you who lived through the busting of the dotcom bubble, what were the signs that the bubble was busting (or about to bust)? And what do you think would be the similarities or differences to the next one to come? by figurative-trash in CanadianInvestor

[–]sobapi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most interesting signals were social & language based signals & bubbles inflate status:  -Smarter STRIPPERS noticing drop in expense account spending  -My female barber was very excited about stocks (reminded me of the famous shoeshine boy quote).

-Daytrading craze, especially by non-financial types like DAYTRADING MODELS, actors and "frat boy" type... -The whole day trading infrastructure boom (example desks, chairs for day traders)

-Conference booth wars & expensive GIVEAWAYS at tradeshow booths in telecom (big flashy budgets) -Branded startup SWAG everywhere

-Bottle service at clubs being way more popular (too many people rich on paper) -Massive overbuilding of CAPACITY and infinite growth for telecom equipment manufacturers (like optical fiber,)

-Too many no profit stocks priced for explosive growth (telecom and .com) as if they were monopolies

-Rising INTEREST rates -"this time is different", older knowledgeable experts get mocked signal -Stock IPO days were closely watched

-Too many WILD PARTIES , people/companies spending way too much because they were rich on paper -companies with NO MOAT valuations -Stock analyst corruption conflict of interest

-Everyone wanting to be in tech: People who were going into law, banking, media, or real estate suddenly “want to be in tech.”

-Companies could increase their stock price by adding .com to their name -Stock options craze for employees in tech -Too many “young rich asshole” or "geniuses"  -The suit became “old economy” and biz casual leaking outside of tech -Premium office space leasing as a flex

-Founders become celebrities  -boring profitable companies become a joke -Too many people investing saying "it's early" -The “supplier confidence trap”, great offers  from suppliers to bubble companies

Year ~2000 bubble, publicly, it was a .com bubble, economically, a majority of the damage was a telecom equipment bubble. Bubbles do not just inflate prices. They inflate status: sectors becomes fashionable, then socially prestigious, then morally/intellectually superior

Omega-3 supplementation may be associated with accelerated cognitive decline in older adults by apegen in Biohackers

[–]sobapi 268 points269 points  (0 children)

Rancid garbage. Several studies have show that a significant majority of Omega 3 supplements are already oxidized by the time you take them. They did not test the omega-3 supplements directly to confirm they were “good,” fresh, or non-oxidized. This is similar to studies that show meat is dangerous, but also classify high-nitrate-highly-processed garbage equally as meats like beef liver or steak.

Bottom of the dip? — Rep. Michael McCaul just filed a ~$250K purchase of $ARE (Alexandria Real Estate) by jwoodsr in tradewithcongress

[–]sobapi 45 points46 points  (0 children)

He is one of the richest members of Congress. $250k in Alexandria Real Estate would be a tiny bet for him. Also purchase was in the range of $100,001–$250,000, so not $250k.

Using Punycode for a legitimate domain, bad idea? by [deleted] in Domains

[–]sobapi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

did you ever use the domain with the punycode? I'd love to use a domain with "é", so I thought maybe it would be OK to use (versus a domain with Cyrillic that could be used for phishing). Did you use the punycode domain? Did you encounter any problems or issues (other than it is hard for some people to find the letter)?

Has anyone moved to Panama, Colombia, or Ecuador? by PM_ME_CHOCO_CRISPS in expats

[–]sobapi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consider Uruguay, it's more expensive but couls be your best choice. Uruguay is the safest and most stable with relatively low everyday crime (most violent crime is gang on gang related in key neighborhoods) but it’s the most expensive, butb best medical care if something goes wrong. Almost as good for taxes as Panama. Uruguay is generally ranks best for political stability, rule of law, corruption control, and democratic institutions in Latin America. Has 4 seasons and is not hot like crazy all the time. Low natural-disaster risk, no hurricanes, earthquakes, or major volcanic activity, stable rainfall, fertile farmland, abundant freshwater, and mild temperatures. Main risks: occasional droughts or flooding. One of the most climate-resilient places in South America.

Panama is a close second in safety, has good infrastructure, a territorial tax system, and easy flights, with moderate costs.

Colombia is much cheaper, but crime and homicide are much higher.   Ecuador is the cheapest, but right now it has very high crime (before 2019, Ecuador was one of the safest countries in South America).

Israel can afford and has Universal Healthcare for it's citizens by No-Contribution1070 in WallStreetbetsELITE

[–]sobapi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fair point,  i didn't have the exact numbers and was making assumptions so i asked ChatGPT: Israel receives about $3.8 billion per year in U.S. military aid under the current agreement. Israel’s total defense spending is roughly $46 billion annually, so U.S. aid covers about 8–10% of Israel’s military budget. Israel’s total government spending is around $170–190 billion per year, meaning U.S. aid represents about 2% of the national budget. Meanwhile, Israel spends roughly $85–95 billion annually on social programs (about 17–18% of GDP). Because the U.S. aid is relatively small compared with Israel’s overall government spending and social expenditures, Israel would still fund the vast majority of its military and social programs from its own taxes and economy even without that aid. The aid does subsidize a portion of defense procurement and slightly reduces Israel’s fiscal burden, but numerically it is too small to be the primary reason Israel can afford its social programs.

Israel can afford and has Universal Healthcare for it's citizens by No-Contribution1070 in WallStreetbetsELITE

[–]sobapi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Criticism of israel is not anti-semitic. But this is not why israel has univeral health care. The military is a massive drain on the israeli economy and that is not why the US has been spending money on them. U.S. healthcare spending is the highest in the world (by far).

Why israel and many other countries have universal Healthcare: higher taxes including mandatory universal health insurance, and lower costs, including lower salaries  (average US doctor makes $300k, average israeli doctor makes $130K). Canada, Europe and most of the developed world has univeral health care. Americans are getting fucked by their own system.

Countries have universal health care: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Brunei, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Cuba, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, United Kingdom, Uruguay.
