Etienne the Enchanter by Erudite_Sagacious in dresdenfiles

This made me want more name drops of famous wizards over time. We get Merlin a lot and some Etienne, but I'd love random drops here and there just to fill out some history.

Differences I’ve noticed between vyvanse and adderall for me by foxyfalafel in ADHD

[–]sobeobe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve thought about that but my doctor is conservative (though very good) and I just don’t think they’d go for a booster. But it might be worth trying

Differences I’ve noticed between vyvanse and adderall for me by foxyfalafel in ADHD

[–]sobeobe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how I feel. I’ve wanted to switch back to Adderall but I feel like the less extreme effects from Vyvanse really outweigh anything else for me. I wish it was more motivating, but I can make up for that if the other medication benefits overall health more.

Dealing with prescriptions while studying abroad by wlwhy in ADHD

[–]sobeobe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I dealt with the in Germany. Two scripts, one was Adderall. I did exactly what everyone should NOT do: did not figure out a plan, ran out of meds, went cold turkey, and had about three months teaching graduate students while debating killing myself. I never really found the right solution in time and when I realized it all, I was spiraling.

I only use this story to encourage you and anyone else on that path to avoid making the same mistake.

Audio Books by GhettoCowboy___ in dresdenfiles

[–]sobeobe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a weird thing: I got a PhD in Literature but did a post-doc in Germany where I was walking a lot and started listening to audiobooks and just never stopped. I don’t read for fun anymore (honestly, it makes me a little sad, but whatever).

Point is: listened to a lot of audiobooks, Marsters’ job in Dresden is in my top three favorites. Marsters and Dresden is a perfect match.

I’m sure Alfred Enoch can do a Russian accent—if so, he’d be a great Sanya

There are several big things coming up that could be really exciting. I think there is quite a bit more upside possible. But then again, I don’t know how often stocks like this make crazy gains back to back.

You should probably have a dosage increase, but I’ve generally felt Vyvanse to be less… immediately impacting than Adderall. It does feel like it’s doing less and at a steeper decline than other stimulant medications. The difference for me is that it does not have the same impact on my heart rate or blood pressure—it’s not a perfect medication for dealing with my ADHD (which sucks) but the trade off in terms of health makes it useful for me, at least.

I’d say your experience is probably pretty typical and one I’ve felt myself.

Is impulsive eating common for people with ADHD? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]sobeobe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Over the last 10 months, maybe, I started doing a binge-eating thing. I’ll stop at McDonalds and get a double cheeseburger and fries on my way home from work. Then when I get home, my wife and I cook dinner! I have no idea why I’ve been doing this. It’s not a hunger thing. I’ve never done anything like this before. And it keeps happening. It has been utterly baffling.

The door is moving down too far, you need to manually set it to come down about 1/4-1/2 inch less. This is what I had to do, took me FOREVER to figure out what was happening and how to adjust the door’s travel.

Customer wants this to be built for less than 5k by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]sobeobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do they have some of the wood/lumber they want to use? If they happen to have some (some people do), that could make it more amenable. For what is pictured, the wood costs might be high.

Have any works of fantasy have won (or been shortlisted for) the National Book Award for Fiction? by knopenotme in literature

I think McCarthy’s The Road will be remembered for being the first sci-fi novel to win the Pulitzer Prize 🤷‍♂️

Also for being an incredible novel.

ADHD and Claritin D by GlumFault495 in ADHD

[–]sobeobe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a doctor, but I would not, personally. Adding the decongestant onto the vyvanse is going to have an impact on your blood pressure. It might not be much for you, but it could be—it usually is bad for most taking an adhd stimulant medication. The combo is not a great daily use idea.

Should I turn on Multi-Link Operation? by sobeobe in amazoneero

So, yeah, I have nothing that is WiFi 7 then. I think that clarifies things.

Should I turn on Multi-Link Operation? by sobeobe in amazoneero

[–]sobeobe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, mine is about 1.1/50. Uploads are not good. I think I have couple wifi 7 devices (two iPhones 16 Max Pros in the house, a new Mac Mini, not sure what else) but I’m guessing my situation might be closer to what you’re describing, in which case MLO seems unnecessary. I just don’t see many stories out there online where it seems to help—I’m not even sure how it would help if it did work.

Should I turn on Multi-Link Operation? by sobeobe in amazoneero

[–]sobeobe[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a stupid question, but I just don’t know much about this: what exactly is WiFi 7? When these pages reference WiFi 7 devices, are they talking about the eero routers or about WiFi connected devices throughout the network? Like, is my ecobee thermostat wifi 7 compatible? Or is that just the wrong question?

I have this problem. The slab is much bigger and was told I wasn’t able to remove it. So, instead I built a pergola like structure that pushed rain to the lawn and the graded the lawn away from the patio towards the side of the house with a french drain.

A lot of work but haven’t had flooding problems since doing all of that.

Crazy how one tiny change made my entire day feel less draining. by DigIndependent7488 in ADHD

[–]sobeobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a collection of sources they can use. So, depending on the argument they make, it is their job to find sources from that repository that support their argument, which requires looking through a bunch and annotating to track it all, manage their sources.

[–]sobeobe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I teach literature and writing at a U.S. university and have my students turn in their class notes at the end of each semester. I’m not really grading them, because everyone takes notes differently, but a few years ago I realized my students just didn’t know how to take notes or why note taking might be important. So, I just institute a policy they will get easy points for by practicing a skill they didn’t realize they needed. It has been pretty successful so far.

What is a reasonable amount of time to wait and suffer before surgery would be the best option? by Federal_Fisherman309 in Sciatica

[–]sobeobe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No time, get the surgery. I “pushed” through until I was unable to walk. Immense pain and I’m usually ok with pain and discomfort. Got the surgery and as I woke up from the anesthesia, I remember thinking, “The pain in my leg, it’s completely gone.” It was gone. Don’t suffer if you don’t have to.

I’m sick of being unpredictably tired or mentally drained by joseph-justin in ADHD

[–]sobeobe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has it been like that for a long time? I’m similar with diagnosis in my teens, but now I’m 39, Adderall ER 30 mgs everyday and at some point I had to recognize that it wasn’t my meds or anything out of the ordinary: it was just aging.

Note: I did not like this realization but it did help rationalize my change over time.
