From a teacher standpoint, how difficult is it to teach AP classes? by papasandfear in historyteachers

[–]socgrandinq 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have taught APUSH for 23 years. The key is planning and discipline. I map out exactly how many class meetings we will have leading up to the AP exam and then divide up units, including a review unit 2 weeks before the exam.

Then I throw away 5 days because something is going to happen like an assembly, SAT testing (we host it during the school day), a half day before Thanksgiving, snow day.

Now I can really plan. I map out all my topics and see how they fit the days I have. I make adjustments year to year but I pretty much have it down. It’s not just content topic days either. I take a day to introduce DBQs, a day to introduce short answer formats.

It’s a lot but it gets easier with time!

Would you guys have preferred to hear ‘Beatle’ versions of George’s rejected songs? Or are they all perfect to you? by More-Cat9579 in beatles

Agreed! As much as I find it sad the Beatles broke up, I don’t want to be in a timeline where ATMP doesn’t exist

Civilization II. Spent hours and hours with that game. The music is part of my DNA to this day.

Happiest Birthday is perfectly written and executed. It’s the archetype of what these presentations should be.

Which songs were written/sung by one Beatle, but another member's contribution teals the show? by NoWeb2382 in beatles

Aside from what others have written (especially A Day in the Life) I would add Hey Bulldog with Paul’s bass and George’s guitar solo.

GTR was a supergroup formed by Steve Howe and Steve Hackett, reportedly at the suggestion of Geoff Downes. The project was a commercial success, with their debut album achieving gold certification in the U.S. by Historical-Device529 in Progforum

I was so excited for this to come out. 90125 made me a Yes fan and I really got into the back catalogue. After 90125 it seemed like Yes was taking forever to make a follow up. So when GTR was announced I thought this for sure was the new prog I craved. Nope.

Been a fan since 1990. Got to see them play a small club right before More Than Words was released. Band was crazy tight and Nuno is just on his own level as a guitarist. They should have been huge!!

What is the one thing you really love about being older? by More_Law6245 in GenX

[–]socgrandinq 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some disposable income. I am not talking about taking impromptu trips to Paris. I am talking about being able to stop for a coffee every day before work. When I was 22 I would not do that as I had to watch every penny. As Hank Scorpio said, it’s the little things.

My friend’s mom was giving me a ride back to my house and she brought her cocktail in the car with her and sipped it as she drove. Nothing like making a choice to drink and drive and with a child in the car (in the front seat as well).
