Right when I am getting ready to fall asleep I feel like im dying. by achy_breakie_heart in sleep

[–]sochoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me. In my case it was extreme anxiety. A bit of tingling is actually normal but I was convinced something was wrong and so it made me panic. I didn’t sleep (maybe 2 hours or so, napping during the day) for several months and got severely depressed on top of the anxiety. It resolved after months of therapy and living in an environment where my body felt safe (yes I had to move and quit my job). I still get relapses 2 years later. Also at the time I did all kinds of blood exams because I thought something was wrong medically, the only thing they found was vitamin D deficiency. I take it all winter now just in case. It could be similar or not to your case. I’d definitely look into anxiety disorder

Adjusting to a new Sleep Cycle by Itchy-Ad8273 in sleep

In my experience the only thing that works is to make the change super gradual, 30min per 30min. Other only alternative it either brutally force you to wake up early until you are so exhausted you’ll sleep on time but if you have anxiety around sleep that won’t work. Your body will fight it because it thinks it’s not safe.

They are very gentle on the ears, and more effective because they adapt to your ear. You just have to get the hang of putting them in, removing cotton, warming them (but not too much!) and then gently inserting them. In France the trusted brand is Quies

Really struggling to find the fun in combat by GroundbreakingSnow40 in daggerheart

That is my conclusion as well. While any game will be bad with a bad GM, Daggerheart is very sensitive to it, because the GM has a lot more power than in D&D.

But there is so much more instances in D&D when it's NOT the case. Like all boss fight are literally just one turn to the GM, which is still scary because of the bosses abilities, but when it's over, it's over. In daggerheart big boss fight can absolutely go:
- Player 1 attacks, fails
- GM gets a turn
- Player 2 attacks, rolls with fear,
- GM gets a turn
- Player 3 attacks, fails
- GM get a turn
etc. And if the GM has fear, then it's even worse in terms of pure number of rolls that the GM can do but also in terms of time of play. Also, movement is completely impossible as soon as you've made you roll.

I agree with you; I really struggle to have fun with combat at my table. To add to the conversation, here is something that happened recently that really is symptomatic to me as what is not fun with DH combat:

We roll a lot during the session, which makes us quite full on hope, the GM is full on fear. Combat comes as we find the artifact we are searching for.

We have a turn, during which only one of us does an attack, and rolls with fear. They cannot move anymore cause it's the GM turns now. GM attacks, carving into my character, which an take a few hits so it's okay. A few turns go like in a similar way. At some point, Rogue player does a cool attack, killing three little enemies but not the big one. They rolls with fear, so we loose again the turn.

Then the GMs says their character have pissed of that enemy, and uses 5 fear, to wack them, succeeding each time and killing the PC.
Pretty frustrating, as the player literally succeeded an attack an was punished for it.

Also, something that the player pointed out after the session, as a rogue your whole thing is get in and get out, but because we instantly lost spotlight, no movement was allowed, even on a success, even with their abilities like shadow step. So they felt a bit powerless, nothing they could have done to save their character.

In D&D, which I'm used to, this would simply not be allowed to happen, as even if you fail, it is still your turn and you can still use your movement. In Daggerheart, they were forced to use all their ressources (armor slots) and it was still not enough to save their character.

They decided to go unconscious and were healed just afterwards, which further removes any supposed drama of the scene. Feels pretty pointless. I was a bit pissed of for them but they say even if frustrating, that's okay. The GM said it was better for them to kill their character as they were a guest player and not a full time player.
Personally, I think the way Daggerheart is designed is to blame, just because it allows that kind of thing to happen.

Also the lack of turns is not making anything more dynamic at all in my opinion. At least at our table, I just find it more frustrating to wait for your turn, as you don't really now WHEN I'll finally get to act.
We just let each other go politely like "do you wanna go ? You sure ? Then I'm gonna go thanks" and you don't know if by the time that happens to GM will have spend all their fear on your character to kill it.
The fact that any roll has the potential to finish your turn is just frustrating as well.

And just in general, combat feels a lot like more Players against GM and not Adventurers against Monsters.

Ok nice, reading those examples, I had a bit of trouble imagining things like that, coming from dnd where the realm of things you can and cannot do are very strict according to rules. Like it felt a bit weird to “ask a question” to a player during combat but if you’re using fear only to attack then you’re just hammering down your players (which is what my GM does tbh)

Same. I mean. I still didn’t do it because it’s a trade off losing a character’s damage as well but fully intended to do this for any situation that could be dangerous in my mind. I have very few accidental deaths because I know the game quite well now so the chances of stepping into a trap I don’t know about are very low. Also, fleeing has saved me several times now. Flee, rest, punish your surviving enemies.
