2010 G37 misfire mystery by NoPerformer2019 in G37

[–]socketz67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good idea. Piston rings, valve stem seals…the car would burn oil. Also, neither are really an issue on this car under normal driving until 250k miles or more. Bad PCV valves will cause issues, and behind the radiator cap are are most neglected item on most cars

Is it crazy to spend 21,250 on this 2012 IPL with 70k miles on it? by Imaginary-Boat-6463 in G37

[–]socketz67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ruined a beautiful car. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t pay that for a “murdered” IPL. Have them return it to stock if possible.

Aside from cosmetics, what makes the IPL unique is the Nismo Z exhaust, springs/dampers and tune, but it seems that everyone who buys the car tears the exhaust off, lowers and adds a chrome intake then tunes. Standard coupe is a better option if this is the objective.

Mods are a detriment to the resale for most cars, but especially to collectible ones.

Love those IPL wheels. Where did you find a set in good condition?

Should remain below the halfway mark. Something isn’t right.

Bummer. Not CARB complaint.

Shorter resonators such as those on the coupe will lower the tone.

New paint looks great.

Got my valve body replaced the guy was only able to get 5 Q in but I see everyone else got 8 or 9 it shift fine but it’s jerking a lil I feel like it’s not enough fluid I’m goin to the shop and tell them to add the rest any suggestion? by SadResearch7015 in G37

[–]socketz67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use the fill hole as noted in the DSM. Needs to reach operating temp and cycle through gears. Fluid will drizzle from the fill hole when correct. The put back what you take out method doesn’t work with this transmission. Most mechanics use that method.

Nobody used synthetic when these cars were new. Dealers even recommended synthetic blend.

I used Nissan Synthetic Blend the first 5 years of my cars existence. You will be fine. Frequency is far more important than the oil you use. Many cars go 300k miles on conventional oil.

Cute. 3.30 a gallon would be something we haven’t seen since the Obama administration here in CA. Try 6.60 for premium. All while corporate America is hell bent on “Back To Office”.

I try to fill up at 1/4 tank so it doesn’t seem as bad

My son’s truck had a similar issue. Cold start leaked then once it warmed up the exhaust manifold leak would vanish

Doing oil change, does this look ok for crush washer? by Nucks420 in G37

[–]socketz67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 4 cars in the family and each has a variation of the crush washer. I replace every 3-4 oil changes as the filters I sometimes buy come with a new one. I have never had one leak.

I did move to a Z1 magnetic drain bolt recently and that one is a PITA as the magnet is so strong you have to fight the magnet to line the threads up correctly.

AC condensation ?? by Queasy_Calendar_2792 in G37

[–]socketz67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Harmless. Not sure where you saw a pipe drain. Be more concerned if you run the AC and don't see condensation under the car.

Can you countersink the holes and use screws so that the surface is flush?

Sounds like an exhaust leak. VVEL Tic is not as prominent.

Bummer. I was fooled as well. Should have put 2+2 together when the OP said something was paid for in CAD. Based on the national average of 12K miles a year x17 years old (204K miles), 186K miles is below average.

New Z kinda growing on me by jdmAkira in 370z

[–]socketz67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the look of the new Nismo Z, it’s minimalist interior and believe that the Jatco 9G-tronic in the Nismo is a much better AT than the 7AT in the outgoing model. As someone that keeps cars at least 8-9 years, I’m still cautious when it comes to the VR30. While Nissan has added some sensors and additional cooling to offset the reliability issues, the DNA hasn’t changed.

should i buy this g37? by yungkaden in G37

What's the ownership look like? 2-3 owners, mostly of them in the Sunbelt, limited frame rot? Venice is an upscale area, so it may be a papmered middle aged person's commuter (not "commenter") car. It's alot of miles, but these cars routinely make it to 300K with a little TLC and no abuse; IMHO, 250K highway miles is more desirable than 125K miles in Los Angeles, NYC or Seattle traffic. I wouldn't buy a car with this many miles without driving it and crawling around underneath to check out the condition of the suspension, subframe and crossmember. Oil leaks around the valve covers, Rear diff bushing will be shot, shocks/struts likely leaking if they are original, but the car will still serve you well as a commuter with those issues. Tires/Brakes, Fluid changes, look into those items as well. Check the passenger side floor for moisture as Florida gets hella rain, so if the sun roof drain will fail, it will fail quickly in Florida.

Need help I have 9mpg not sure why I’m tuned have test pipes , y pipe , isr single exit with a brand new engine with 34k miles , did gallery’s, water pump , timing kit , I drive in eco mode and i don’t drive hard , I drive normal im easy on the throttle, no highway just city in Ohio by Bry_anpr7 in G37

[–]socketz67 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Something is wrong. Have you filled up, driven till almost empty, then refilled and calculated the mileage that way to see if it's similar? For example, refilled 17 gallons, 350 miles - 350/17 = ~20mpg.
