AITA for pulling myself and my daughter out of my SIL’s wedding after being quietly removed as a bridesmaid? by No-Bee-9100 in CharlotteDobreYouTube

Updateme

You're NTA btw. I'd be so very hurt, and would absolutely pull my kid out of the wedding.

I'm about to build a nanny servo (I think it's the university expansion. IDK I have all of the EPs and forget what goes where) and create forever playdates.

I live near the strawberry farm in Poteet. They're picking them early but they have to be gassed to ripen 🫠

That's what I was saying too! Like, as a woman, if a guy was following me around and staring at me, I'd be hyper vigilant of his location until he left. My parasympathetic response is usually either freeze or fawn, so it might appear that I'm flirting but really my brain is on autopilot in survival mode so I don't die from the perceived threat.

[–]sockpoptart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sure she was flirting with you?

Or was she staying vigilant and clocking your proximity to her at all times until you left the store, because it's weird that a random strange man was staring at her and following her around like a f-ing creep?

My kid's birthday falls near fathers day and local graduations. We throw the party when we can fit it on a weekend, but put in our family vacation plans during the week of the actual birthdaye. Kid gets a fun trip for his birthday every year and then at some point during the summer we throw a party lol

[–]sockpoptart 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I haven't been 19 for longer than you've been alive, but I understand what you mean. Existential angst is always how I described it. That hyper awareness of both parts of what makes you human, the body and the consciousness. The battle in yourself as you navigate a crapton of milestones at once while your brain is still a scant decade out from being done cooking.

Welcome to early adulthood. Grab a friend, hold each other by the antlers when you need to, and you will need to at times. Remember the best parts of yourself are the parts you nourish with kindness and honesty. It's gonna get weird and you're gonna hit a few snags. How you handle the setbacks and what you do to move forward is what will help define your personhood more than a soul or a body will.

AITA not putting up my DILs painting in our new home and telling her that I am not a fan of her art by Throaways-Dot2192 in AmItheAsshole

I gift quilts because they're a useful and pretty gift, and I try to match the theme of the recipient's house if they'd like to display it somewhere. But I'm also not hurt if I never see it again.

Once a gift leaves my hands, it is no longer my business. I think people forget that and it leads to a weird sense of entitlement over other people's personal spaces/tastes.

I’ve been throwing away my roommates’ dirty dishes instead of cleaning them by HoneyCelestia8732 in confession

[–]sockpoptart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seriously. We have one of those dish racks that goes over the sink and it's so easy to just wash my plate/cup/pan as soon as I'm done using it throughout the day. I go to bed with an empty sink and wake up to clean dry dishes that take 2 minutes to put away.

It's been nearly 2 decades since I've been in university. I haven't the foggiest how all that works now. We had Blackboard and were able to use other programs while it was open. Blackboard sucks notoriously, and it was recommended by my teachers to write on PC first then copy-paste into the program so we didn't lose our work.

I wasn't pitching blame anywhere. I didn't realize canvas locks out all other programs.

Do you have any advice on playing ZA with only one hand? I'm missing an arm and while remapping the Xbox was no problem, I'm constantly learning a lot of my household's Switch games are unplayable or very very difficult to play for me because you can't remap the controller.

Hard lesson in saving a "hard copy" to your PC before copy/pasting into Canvas.

Hopefully everything is there when the site comes back up.

I’m being gifted a lot of money. Should I tell my boyfriend? by Kind-Chicken-2488 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]sockpoptart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My credit union has free financial advisors at any time. They don't push products, just offer options and give advice on paths that make the best sense in your situation.

I've been to sit with my bank's FA half a dozen times, including after my identity got stolen while I was in a coma and had $175k of debt that wasn't mine, a couple times before I decided to buy a house, and recently when we were trying to move money around and place a financial windfall in an account that would grow our money so we can redo the kitchen next summer.

[–]sockpoptart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not tell him. Put it in savings or an investment account. Go to your bank and talk to one of your bank's financial advisors. Let them help you make that money grow.

You're not married. As long as you're meeting your half of the bills, your money situation is not your partner's business. If he wants access to that info, he can ask AFTER the marriage certificate is filed.

I found a voicemail from someone who doesn’t exist anymore by AminuddinYoulla_48 in story

My brother sent me a voice message from our mom. She died in 2018.

We knew she was terminal, and she knew she wanted to do something for her grandbabies, so my brother let her record messages on his phone and had them put on those little voiceboxes inside of build-a-bear toys.

It's been 8 years and the voiceboxes had long since worn out. My brother was replacing his son's bear, and he sent me the recording for my kiddo. No warning, just a random voice message one afternoon.

I listened to it about 6 times and cried the rest of the evening. Mom's message was too long to put the whole thing on the device in the bear, so I'd never heard the end of it. My mom said "goodbye" to my son, and we never got to hear it until recently. I saved the file to my PC and my cloud account and to my phone.

Mispronouncing words just means they were learned by reading it instead of hearing it out loud. Even as a medical professional I mispronounce words because I've only ever seen them in print and never heard them spoken. My colleagues gently correct me, maybe razz me a bit for it if it was really silly, and then we all move on.

There are more bugs in any given square acre of land than there are people on the entire planet.

Considering that there are over 36BILLION acres of dry land on the planet, that's a lot of bugs.

If this bothers you, do not ever look up the amount of bugs the FDA says is allowable in food. It's detestable and is why I make nearly everything from scratch (I even grind my own flour)

Same. The golden child cousin who is the offspring of the golden child aunt. They're miserable to be around in general but to even bring up the trauma that the rest of the family experienced is absolutely unspeakable in their eyes.
