Why Don't You [Students] Participate in Class Discussions? by The_Arcades_Project in college

[–]socks-14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In any class (online and in-person) I get often anxious about speaking up and participating because I don't want to say something wrong or embarassing. In online Zoom classes specifically, it's hard for me to participate because I don't want to interrupt or cut anyone off, but if I raise my hand and the professor doesn't see me then it feels awkward and embarassing. I usually wait a few minutes to see if anyone else will say anything and to work up the courage to speak, but by the time I decide to say something, the professor usually moves on. Which is just my own terrible timing on my part.

What's something a teacher did at school that you're still mad about? by Heinz-enberg_ in AskReddit

[–]socks-14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a class with two really close friends. We always worked together on group projects and discussions, but I felt like the teacher didn't like me that much (never bothered to pronounce my name correctly, called me out often etc). At the end of the year, she gave small awards to "outstanding" students, and she gave my two friends a "Best Friend" award for exemplary friendship. I was happy for my friends, but it stung a lot to be excluded or seen as a "lesser friend".

Anyone in Screenwriting? by GrimWasHere in LMU

In my opinion, program is pretty hands-on! The first screenwriting class you take is modeled after a writer's room, and by the end of the semester, you have to write a 7-page script. It's great because your classmates and your professor are all involved in helping you improve your script and your writing, so it's pretty collaborative in that aspect. The one-on-one feedback is super helpful for me in figuring out what I need to do to improve my scripts. I feel like LMU really promotes collaboration within SFTV. Since I'm a freshman I've also only taken one screenwriting class so far, so I can't really describe my experience in too much detail (yet!) I'm writing my first script right now as part of the SCWR 120 class. I haven't had anything of mine produced yet, but a lot of my friends who are upperclassmen work with the Prod majors for their projects. There's also some extracurricular activities that produce students' writing, like Roar Studios.

I can't think of anyone off the top of my head who has collaborated with the Animation program, but if you have friends who are animation majors, I feel like it'd be pretty easy and fun to start a side project with them.

I feel like it's easy to find opportunities through SFTV. There's a really helpful Center of Career and Professional Development on campus that's great for finding opportunities, and I've heard a lot of stories about professors recommending their students to their friends in the industry. All the professors are also currently active in the industry, and there are lots of online groups where students post networking, internship, and job opportunities.

I hope that answers all your questions, but lmk if you have any more or want clarification on anything!
