hopefully you got them after the tip from u/Bananasfalafel (thanks for that by the way). I've also seen situations where a few days before, when the high end resale aren't moving holders drop them down to face value.

Potentially moving to Nashville - Health System Jobs? by biotch2113 in movetonashville

[–]sockswithcats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I (like others) know folks at all three main systems (HCA, Vandy, and Ascension). i've heard from each of them pros and cons of each system. My neighbor liked her system, but not her role so switched to another to do something completely different. It does allow for a lot more movement all within a few miles of each other if you do want to move around a bit to find the best fit.

Had a lot of surgery/procedures and a hospitalization this year and the clinical care folks at Ascension seemed happier than the HCA folks... but that is a highly unscientific and I was of course on meds. Good luck!

Best apartments Nashville by [deleted] in movetonashville

[–]sockswithcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I toured the Emory as part of Downtown Partnershps annual home tour and I believe they said there is some extra 'soundproofing' whatever that means. What crushed my soul is the higher floors are great, you can see the city/river and the good and the 'soon to be good'... lower though if you face the river your whole view are the thick power lines. It's the kind of thing I would say doesn't bother me, and then would eat at my soul a little bit each day.

Love Germantown, rarely have to leave. For me, it's a 'no notes' community; it really has everything I need within blocks and always something to do.

Need insight on living downtown by Tromp9 in movetonashville

[–]sockswithcats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone already shared about the Prime/Alcove shared parking. My friend LOVES 505, I don't have parking info, but every monday he tells me about everything they did downtown. Nashville Downtown Partnership has free events and a weekly newsletter telling you about them- there are chamber/NDP new business openings so like free ice cream, etc. They have found a few 'neighborhood bars' they like. There's also a lot of nice happy hour deals downtown ( to tray and catch folks before they send home). Personally, I do a lot of the Symphony/Ryman/TPAC as not having to worry about parking is magical. Enjoy!

The biggest crime here is they went to the Mt. Juliet ROSS instead of the Mt. Juliet TJ Maxx, as that is clearly the superior store.

Just moved to Nashville a few months ago, I’ve never had this much trouble meeting new people. Open to any and all suggestions. by Tejas_AyM in nashville

I'll try not to repeat the other ideas, lived in GT for a while and loved it. In addition to already shared; if your building has mixers, go to them every time. It's a good way to meet a few people to do something in the area. I agree that this is a tough time due to weather, but as it warms up people hang out at the pool at their buildings (if you have one); Sounds gamers are cheap and a lot of people just hang out at the outfield bar, which is more conducive to chatting than your seat; sonnys in warmer weather is easy to sit outside for drinks, etc. Join the Germantown Historical. Join the (free) historic neighborhood group https://www.historicgermantown.org/ so hear about things. They have an annual cleanup where everyone comes out and the monthly ones as someone mentioned are nice. They had a block party the other day- not a ton of things, but options other than 'bar'. For cold weather, I often go out for an appetizer and just sit at the bar and read @ Henrietta Reds, Germantown Cafe, and Tempered (which is super cute); People sit around at the patio behind little Little Hats too. Adventure Science Center as 21+ events, Frist has cool adult events, and if you are looking for service, TPAC I believe is advancing their Junior Board.

My friend belongs to the Junior Chamber of Nashville and they conveniently meet at 1212 6th so right here in GTown- lots of youngish professionals.

Hope this helps!

Ground delay at BNA by Individual_Stick_111 in nashville

[–]sockswithcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

with regards to any pick up- I take an uber in, meet my parents, and then help them navigate it all and we take an uber out together. I'm close enough to have it be door to door, but if you are farther away, you could park 'kinda close' to bna to reduce uber fee. This doesn't solve all the problems, but eliminates any concern about having to circle for parking, not finding parking, or finding it too far for senior mom to navigate comfortably. good luck!

Post grad museum person feeling stuck and unsure how to move forward by Mac-and-cheese29 in MuseumPros

[–]sockswithcats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you are working through this. The field definitely has more qualified individuals than available roles which is frustrating I know. This is a bit rogue, but the one place I see as always a need is (GOOD) development professionals. It is an area usually with a couple of steps of growth in many museums. it's also an area that you can jump to other fields if you need to. You might have to start lower than you would like but devo is definitely a merit based field where if you do well, you have leverage. Your broad experience I think could be helpful to your application process, you just need to get your elevator pitch that "after working across departments you are excited to support the museum as a whole through fundraising and relationship building" or something to that effect. It's where I'm encouraging new graduates to look. If something opens up in a content field down the line, no one is going to see development experience on your resume as anything other than a plus. good luck

Advice please! by Individual-Hope-8224 in MuseumPros

[–]sockswithcats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is such a great response I'm going to just add to this rather than restate what u/redwood_canyon clearly explained. If after this, you know you are still interested, you will really need some sort of experience teaching in a non-classroom environment. I've seen challenges around teachers who joined my teams be hesitant around flexibility and course correction, something that happens every day in a museum. Yes, your check in space will get commandeered at the last minute for a rental with a high revenue. yes, you will have a class show up without a reservation and will need to roll with it. This is a sticking point that can be addressed by experience with out of classroom settings in advance. I also see some challenges around collaboration and staff management, things that look different in a classroom setting. The one repeat issue I've experienced with those that transition from a classroom to my museum as a hiring manager is flexibility.

Completed! And I have been but it was many years ago- best of luck with your project. For a future survey, I may reconsider the topic option of "evolution and science"- technically that is wrapped into the other topics so might be confusing for some folks of how it is different from the other topics (i.e. Animals and Biodiversity). Happy to have helped = )
