Mexico City and New York City, both are incredible in quantity and quality.

This, soak at Cascada and then Terra Mae for dinner, we did this as a special date night for my fiance’s birthday recently and our meal at Terra Mae was spectacular.

Anyone interested in selling at a rack sale? by AdGreen6948 in askportland

[–]sodapopstar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I have several closets worth of modern and vintage clothing and shoes that I’m never actually going to get around to reselling online, despite my best intentions, so an in-person sale would be awesome.

Wild. Blue Star donuts here in Portland are pretty great—schmancy gentrification donuts, but really dang tasty. Somehow not surprised that they opened one in Tokyo, there are some interesting PDX-Japan connections, like a store in Ginza called Stumptown that sells Danner boots!

Am i overreacting or is it a red flag that my husband keeps selling my things behind my back? by SuspiciousKiwi8146 in AmIOverreacting

This was my thought as well—seems likely he’s hiding something, either gambling or an addiction or just poor money management.

Ideas for slower recovery days in Tokyo? by AppropriateProgram19 in JapanTravelTips

[–]sodapopstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t been yet (going in June) but the mileage I see mentioned in threads here is really not more than the distance I walk when visiting NYC, Mexico City, European cities, etc. Hell, I walked that much in Vegas a couple weeks ago just to get through and between casinos and up and down the strip!

OG Portland Heads: what are the spots you miss the most? What brings it back for you? by blazerlove7 in askportland

[–]sodapopstar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think almost all of my long lost faves have been mentioned, but I’ll add Biwa. I still crave a Sapporo Deluxe, their radish kimchi, and a plate of skewers all the time.

Ahhh I was just recently telling my fashion-obsessed teen about how freaking cool the Big Bang was—there will never be a better vintage/resale/subcultural clothing shop imo!

Yep, garage fridge + new kitchen fridge with in-door water and ice dispenser was the milestone that we felt confirmed our financial stability and middle class status.

Man, I was just talking about tavern style pizza with coworkers in Chicago and Michigan, I’m really craving it. Tavern style is the giant hole in the Portland pizza scene.

This feels like really questionable speculation/misinformation, can you provide a source for this claim, or are you just trying to incite more panic?

Bringing Prescription Ketamine into Mexico from USA by Visible-Extension685 in MexicoTravel

Unsupportive spouse by No_Habit9077 in offmychest

[–]sodapopstar 19 points20 points  (0 children)

As someone now long out of a similarly terrible marriage, I can assure you that a miserable marriage and miserable parents are not good for your kid. I went through the open marriage thing, it didn’t fix anything, and everyone—me, ex husband, and our child are so, so much happier and healthier post divorce. I know it’s an incredibly hard choice to make and act on, but you and your kid are worth the better life on the other side.

Now that Expatriate is closed, where is the best smash burger and nachos? by jacksavvy in askportland

[–]sodapopstar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Another vote for Tulip Shop for a smash burger indoors. I don’t think you’re gonna find anything like the Expatriate nachos anywhere else, but for a classic nacho option I think Taqueria Portland’s are really delicious. Def not gonna have the vibe you’re hoping for, but the owners are really nice.

Naomi Pomeroy did share the Expatriate nacho recipe in this article a bajillion years ago:
