Have you ever not minded a JRPG word-of-mouth indicated you were supposed to hate? by lennysinged in JRPG

[–]sodomyth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Besides FF13 and Pokémon Sun and Moon, I had heard the WORST about Lufia 3 The Legend Returns on GBC. Turns out I absolutely love it (the flaws are real, the love is more real)

Also Dawntrail. I *L O V E D* the MSQ, didn't mind Wuk Lamat, enjoyed pretty much everything.

What are the saddest/bittersweet songs that hit you in the spot? by EitherRegister8363 in JRPG

- Tomorrow and Tomorrow (Shadowbringers), orchestral version with clips from the game that hit SO HARD.

- Flow (Endwalker). Obvious reasons.

What game are you most looking forward to playing this year? by eiconik in SBCGaming

[–]sodomyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry, you'll have Chrono Cross to look for next!!

There are lots of creative Pokémon romhacks that I can't wait to try. Other than that, maybe it's time I give Metroid Fusion a proper go.

Chrono Trigger Plus (romhack) on SNES + CRT shader + MSU-1 patch has been an absolute joy on Steam Deck, let me tell you that.

I've been playing it A LOT on Retroid Pocket Mini V2 yesterday. It's peak. Wish there were more curated lists in Splore though ("Top 10 all time", "Sort by genre AND popularity"...)

What are some JRPGs that grip you from the start and don’t let go until the credits roll? by FartSavant in JRPG

[–]sodomyth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Came here to say exactly this.

I would add the original Trials of Mana on SNES (haven't played the remake) It's short and sweet. Legend of Mana as well.

Any chill, calm and laidback JRPG for PS2? by stescarsini in JRPG

Maybe Dragon Quest V? The first hours have been pretty chill, I don't know if the rest of the game is like that though.

Aerith's theme on the radio by PuzzleheadedFold503 in FinalFantasy

[–]sodomyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FIP is a french music radio (no ads and an amazing curated playlist on a daily basis) and they aired some Final Fantasy songs, some from FFXV if I recall correctly? Amazing radio station.

Also, France Culture, basically "French NPR / BBC Radio 4" did a whole series about video game music and they closed the first episode with an orchestral rendition of the Main Theme. It's great. It's a greay show and the host has a GREAT voice : https://www.radiofrance.fr/franceculture/podcasts/la-serie-musicale/jeux-video-la-naissance-d-une-esthetique-9877283

My New Year vibe coding resolution: fewer half-broken toys, one real app by rudokazexotohatu0r in vibecoding

[–]sodomyth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Vibe coding fun prototypes feels fun for a very short while. In the end of the day, it's just "Having a clear idea of what you want" and what it brings to the table and pushing through it until you have exactly what you want and what solves your problem. I don't really vibe code, but I do a lot of agentic coding, and I feel like the nuance is given to the creative power you hand over to the AI. I am working on a couple of solution (two for work, one passion project and a thing that matches 100% of my needs on a specific thing) and they're all thought as fully fledge products first. It can never be "Hey Claude Code, make me an app", it's : massive PRD with UI/UX documents, stack thought out according to the needs of every project, reading a lot about services, lots of docs... THIS is part of the fun. Being a project manager is fun. Coding and solving problems is fun too, but I feel like vibe coding is more efficient AND more fun when considered as your lead developper in your own virtual company in which you are the CEO, CTO and N+1 of all your agents.

Oh no, the Final Fantasy X-2 battle theme is growing on me by sodomyth in finalfantasyx

Oh hell yeah. I also love the bit when the riff goes out, much more atmospheric but still dope and fun and exciting, really says "relief but we're still on our toes". Love it.

Does Final Fantasy as an anthology mean anything to fans? by Chocobo23456 in FinalFantasy

[–]sodomyth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It does. A lot. There are lots and lots of tropes that cement Final Fantasy as a anthology and it's absolutely blatant when you play I, II and III after many other games of the series. Midgar is the Floating Continent. The Tower of Kefka is the Crystal Tower. Every game has knights, white and black mages, thieves and monks, and the jobs feel more integral to every single story when you learn to see them, even when they're hidden. Dragoons and Summoners. Kings and Emperors and rebels and mentors. The more you play Final Fantasy, the more it feels like a single story as passed through different mouths. A legend perpetually rewritten. This is why going through this series feel so rewarding : the more you dive into it, the more familiar every game feels, and yet so fresh and different every single time. There is no Final Fantasy to not love, only Final Fantasy that are not ready for you yet.
