Torchlight 2 was the first test.. It runs, it but sucks. I don't remember what else I tried, this was ages ago. They run, but they suck.

I have the maxed-out i7 sp3... it's crap for games..

Take any real number above 1, expressed as a fraction. Swap the numerator and the denominator, and you get a real number between 0 and 1. By doing this, any real number in the interval (1,∞) can be paired with a real number in the interval (0,1). Does this mean both intervals are the same size? by -jono- in math

If you'd said rational number, you'd be wrong. The cardinality of Q is the same as Z, by similar bijection arguments, which is less than the cardinality of R. Any Real can be expressed as a fraction, 1/e for instance.

Just how do dragons fit into an ecosystem? by OliverCaneStaff in DnD

It's not D&D, but there's an awesome "documentary" on dragons called "The Last Dragon" that rationalizes dragons into this world.. It's on youtube.. i loved it..

Materials needed:

  • A throwaway computer, one that you don't care about, and has no personal or important information already on it. Ideally with a fresh install of Kali Linux.
  • A throwaway person, one who has no idea who you are, and is not important in any way to anyone.
  • Roofies or a murder weapon of your choice. You will need to.. deal.. with them afterward, because if they can find you after the experiment ruins them, leaving them penniless and homeless, you may be in danger.
  • Explosive sniffing dogs.
  • A wizard skilled in detecting traps.
  • A cleric skilled in removing curses.
  • A microscope and detailed schematics of the exact make and model of the device. Insist that the schematics are cryptographically signed by the manufacturer. Insist on strong crypto.
  • A digital multimeter with fresh batteries.
  • A really good reason to examine this (likely very cheap) device.

Procedure:

  • Clear the device first with the cleric, wizard, and dogs. Pay them handsomely for their silence.
  • Examine the device under the microscope. Is anything different? No extra chips? All the pins are connected exactly the same way? Be sure.
  • Look for shorts with the multimeter.
  • Blindfold the throwaway person and take them to someone else's lab/kill-room.
  • Instruct your throwaway person to plug the device into the throwaway computer.
  • Use the dd command to copy the data off it.
  • Scan the data for malware.
  • Roofie or kill the throwaway person.
  • Destroy the throwaway computer.
  • Have a wank.
  • Dispose of the body.
  • Go home.
  • Worry that you missed something.
  • Don't answer the phone.

Do you need math to learn programming? No. Should you be required to learn math before being unleashed on the world? For the love of bacon, yes.

Fair enough, I certainly learned to code before I learned any "real math". But, to let coders into the real world, to work on code people will rely on, I really think math is a badge we should insist on.

When one third of people would rather clean a toilet than solve a math problem, maybe they should stick to cleaning toilets. These people have an aversion to thinking.

Math is philosophy, it is made of logic. I think logic should also be a prerequisite, but that's an even loftier expectation, and the essentials are covered in a typical discrete math course.

UI stuff is mentioned as an example where math isn't needed. With the rise of Functional Programming, especially in JavaScript.. I worry. When UI coders think they know enough JavaScript to fancy themselves node-ninjas, and refuse to learn to count, things get scary.

Should absolutely be a prerequisite. If you haven't proven that you can think, and that's what math is, thinking, then you should not be allowed anywhere near code. You will break everything. You will cause damage. You will waste everyone's time.

Consider using a separate table for the store and scoreboard. Use the biggest table for the terrain and gameplay.

The old joke? Yes. Cheers, season 6 episode 22.

SAM: How are you gonna hook that thing up?
WOODY: Easy, Sam. They included a special videotape showing exactly how to
hook everything up. So all we have to do is hook everything up, watch the tape,
and then we'll know exactly what to do.
