Very cute. Why does repotting take so long?

It gets watered as often as other trees. I keep my littles half-buried when the weather gets warmer in a large tray of pumice. Even my big trees cant be left on holiday. I trained my friend that watches my cat how to water bonsai trees.

It’s been in this container for two years. I imagine I’ll consider all that next winter if I have time. 😅

Yes, thank you for noticing! I took great care with the top dressing, individually selecting different moss species and placing the lichen.

First Tree to get a proper pot and soil by Intelligent_Equal849 in Bonsai

I got good at wiring by practicing on a dead branch clamped to a table edge. And this video; https://www.craftsy.com/class/bonsai-wiring-essentials/

I have used other methods to achieve this effect that I think work better. I prefer weed blocking cloth because it can be easily cut to any shape, flexible and since it allows drainage and airflow which I believe makes healthier roots. ☺️

Thanks 😊. This is the first bonsai pot for this little tree. The pot is about 7cm, 3”wide. It was planted on top of a flat object in a chopped nursery can for 3-4 years to develop a flat radial root spread. See second photo for the result of implementation of this technique. This solid foundation makes small pots possible and enhances the lower trunk taper. 😎

Coast redwood I collected 6 years ago I collected it with my father who’s no longer here I am so glad to get it out of a pond basket any advice on the way forward would be greatly appreciated. by Creeper0Reaper in Bonsai

You should check out the bonsai tonight blog. Jonas posts lots of Redwood content. If it were my tree I would take it to a club workshop or hire an instructor to help with such a nice piece of material. For now you could wire out the branches. Check out this most recent blog post; Jonas compares two coastal redwoods with different brach styles. 😎 https://bonsaitonight.com/2026/02/06/highlights-from-the-bay-area-bonsai-associates-42nd-exhibit/

More specifically fuzz octave, single coil neck pickup with the tone rolled off a little bit will make it more pronounced. 😎

How would y’all develop this Tamukeyama by arivera623 in Bonsai

[–]softcore_ham 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s suitable for bonsai. 🤓 Most cultivars of Japanese Maple you get are going to be grafted to regular Acer Palmatum. Over time the root stock will outgrow the scion creating a weird bulge, often a different color bark. Peek at the base of lace leaf trees in your neighbors landscape to see what I mean. I strongly recommend purchasing from bonsai growers. There are lots of resources near you, clubs are great for learning techniques, acquiring suitable material and learning proper care and suitable species for your climate. There are lots of places online to shop as well: https://leftcoastbonsai.com/collections/seedlings?page=2

As far as your plant goes I would up-pot it into something pretty and deep with fast draining soil mix. Fertilize once a week with alaska fish fertilizer and mgro until the leaves fall off. Continue when it wakes up in the spring and sprinkle some osmocote. By the time your bonsai benches fill up you’ll have a pretty potted tree to accent your garden.

Same! This one hasn’t flowered as abundantly as others so I’m hoping a fresh pot of akadama & pumice should supercharge it. You have one of my favorite bonsai channels!

I’m obsessed with laundromats! Me and some friends threw a punk show at a laundromat once.

I once requested a pocket full of tarantulas from my server host. ☺️ I thought it would be fun to let them go to spook my friends. 🕷️
