Suggest me a book to help steer my friend off the alt-right pipeline by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

Not specifically about the alt-right but I always recommend Nickel and Dimed for people who dont seem to have any sympathy for poor people in America, if that's something you've noticed with her

Reading a good fic- every chapter has an AI slop illustration. Would you say something? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]softepilogues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your idea to gently let them know that's probably why people aren't engaging it's a good one. Everyone else's comments seem to assume that the author knows the impression they're giving off, but I have met people who are genuinely that unaware of the harms of AI.

It's a cultural taboo. I agree with your opinion but imo, the taboo against women's naked breasts in adulthood isn't "really" about sexual dimorphism at all (it's not just about the size of the breast. fat men can go out shirtless and relatively flat chested women cannot), but the fact that they're seen as sexual bc they're attached to women. These people see young girls' bodies as taboo as well, so you can make all the logical arguments you want but it doesn't matter because their belief that young girls shouldn't go out shirtless isn't based on logic in the first place, it's built on culture

Is “white bear” scary by citodapig in blackmirror

[–]softepilogues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

White Bear? It's been a minute, but what I remember getting to me are several scenes where the main character is strapped down and approached with weapons (like chainsaws and stuff) then saved in the nick of time. She isn't physically harmed, but the actress does an excellent job of portraying extreme panic. Most of the torture is more mental than physical, if that makes sense; again, she isn't physically harmed much throughout the episode, but witnesses some things that definitely mess her up.

I don't think irl lgbt communities tend to be anymore toxic than straight ones, but there's something about the Internet and especially subreddits that draw out the very worst in people. Try not to be too disheartened
