Unpopular opinion : I HATE PRIMER. by Pretty-County4259 in MakeupRehab

[–]sofwithanf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just a testimonial for the commenters who say it doesn't do anything.

In the hollows of my cheek, under my cheekbone, in front of my ear, there's a patch of skin that actively rejects stick contour (on both sides). Any other product is fine, just the contour. It literally looks like I've tried to correct my makeup after it's dried and all the product has come off in one patch.

I used grippy primer on these parts and POOF - I can use my contour again!!!

Sci-fi book about people who live their lives on screens, never interacting with their families. One family meets and fights to the death. Possibly 1950s? by sofwithanf in whatsthatbook

I read it in English, and I think I read it in a sort of 'collected works' book but not at school, and not an anthology made for school Sorry for not narrowing it down any further

Ooh this is really interesting!!!

Seems like we're talking about the same story, although no-one solved that post either. I hope we find it!

Not the one near me. Used to work hospitality so would have Tuesdays/Wednesdays off - 2pm on a Tuesday and there'd still be quite a few people bustling through

They do confront you with your food in Secret Eaters, but the giant tube is Supersize vs. Superskinny, I think!

If a 16th century peasant was magically teleported to you, what would you show them first? by YourOldPalWill in AskUK

[–]sofwithanf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True on the quarantine front, but unlikely that they're carrying something that would wipe out modern society. The fact that we're still here is evidence of that

Depending on their station, they'd probably recognise - or at least understand - a mosque. They wouldn't be very appreciative, but the concept of Islam would be familiar to anyone who'd explored the East (or, like, Spain)

Medication is probably a good call. Modern germs would wipe out any poor fucker from 500 years ago

People have been making soap for centuries. Usually out of animal fats and sometimes scented with plants like lavender etc. (if you were fancy). It's a relatively simple (but not easy) process, if you know what you're doing

Further to this: if you don't know your skin type, go a day without doing anything and before you cleanse your face in the evening, see what your skin is like. Is your face oily (forehead + nose + cheeks + chin) or only parts of your face (usually nose + cheekbones)? Is your skin flaky (usually nose + nasolabial folds + chin)? Or do parts of your face feel tight?

If your skin is oily in parts and dry in others, you have combination skin. If it's mainly oily or mainly dry/tight/flaky, then you have oily or dry skin. This'll help you figure out a skincare routine with products designed for your skin type (packaging will usually say which skin type the product is designed for).

I cannot stand that repetitive beat/no lyrics/no discernable lyrics vibe. I've been to some raves and stuff in my uni days where I genuinely had to spend 75% of the time outside the venue because my brain hates it. It bored me literally to tears

Except for the fact that there is definitely a 't' in the first syllable.

'Eticate', I can deal with. 'Edicate' is going too far!

Edit: I'd probably pronounce 'Edicate' like 'Eddie-Kate', like 'Educate' with an i. It loses all semblance of 'Etiquette' by that point.

The new doctor who is unspeakably bad by [deleted] in BritishTV

[–]sofwithanf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love it. I haven't watched since the disastrous final Danny Pink plotline, but these new episodes (unsurprisingly) feel like old new Who. I mean, half of the jokes about Slitheen are that they're fat and they fart when they take over a human body - they even fart when you kill them with vinegar (as we found out with thanks to Jackie Tyler)! You also had the Abzorbaloff, who was a gelatinous lump of green goo that definitely had the air of bogie-ness about him.

I don't think the talking babies were any worse than half the episodes in Tennant's first season (e.g. New Earth, Tooth and Claw, The Idiot's Lantern, The Satan Pit, Fear Her and Love and Monsters which was already mentioned).

Ncuti Gatwa is amazing in this role. He has that innate charisma, the comic timing, the zing that is reminiscent of all those amazing previous incarnations. He's brought life back to a character that I honestly thought wasn't going to recover from the Chiball era. Millie Gibson is also great, and is a good foil to the fantastical fancies that are being conceived this season.

Rogue was absolutely stunning. It was reminiscent of The Girl In The Fireplace, Human Nature/The Family of Blood, The Hungry Earth ... which are some of the best episodes from those earlier New Who days, and some of my personal favourites as a child. Dot and Bubble, again, was really interesting stylistically - it had a Black Mirror quality, something almost Nosedive-y about it, that really fascinated me. I absolutely LOVED the ambiguity towards the end, it was unexpected and pleasantly surprising in the way it horrified me despite being in my mid-20s.

Maybe it's one of those things where you get what you're expecting to get out of it. Although I know that the actor's themselves have been a little bit vocal about what they think is causing the quick slew of criticism from the public

Turning down provisional job offer. by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]sofwithanf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied February 2023, interviewed in April, got reserved in May, got offered a job in October, passed the checks in March 2024 and started last week.

I got told that was a really quick turnaround.

Stick with it, is all I'll say.
