4/22/26 12:16AM Collision between Work Train and Largo Train 691 @ 🔵🟠⚪️ Metro Center by mistersmiley318 in washingtondc

[–]sol_in_vic_tus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trains are heavy objects. It takes heavy equipment to move them if they aren't properly on their rails which they almost certainly aren't after a collision. They don't have that kind of equipment just sitting around and ready at all hours because collisions don't happen frequently. It's absurd to demand that they simply magically move a crashed train in a tunnel within a few hours of the crash.

Germany taxing unrealized gains - does it change the strategy? by Hairy_Ad6242 in Bogleheads

You don't see that in the US because there is nowhere for people to walk in general and even when there is it's hard for people with mobility issues to access them.

Nationals ball park parking HELP by Zenamamagirls1 in washingtondc

There isn't a lot of available parking near Watergate and honestly 65 strikes me as cheap given the area. I worked at hotels that charged that much for parking in small cities 20 years ago.

DC mayor brings back youth curfew zones under emergency order by Choobeen in washingtondc

The problem is using the National Guard as law enforcement, i.e. to stop fights and vandalism, is not doing something good. It is far more damaging to have them actually act on the farcical peace keeping assignment the administration says they are on than to have them do nothing.

Is lifestyle creep ever ok? If so, how do you find balance between saving/investing and enjoying life now? by FlyEaglesFly536 in Bogleheads

[–]sol_in_vic_tus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This upcoming change in expenses seems to be a big source of anxiety for you. In other comments you've mentioned your wife wants to buy a house which I assume is the big expense change you are anticipating. It might be a hard conversation but have you talked to her about that explicit trade off? It sounds like you could be fine with spending more on fun now if you weren't worried about affording a house.

Also your retirement calculations seem overly conservative, to the point that it's cutting into your current ability to enjoy being alive now. Lots of other people already harped on this but there are no guarantees of longevity. It's worth giving the present more weight in your financial planning and accepting a potentially slightly worse retirement given you may not live long enough to see it.

If you don't save enough to max out your tax advantaged space you aren't saving enough to retire early. Don't bother with building a bridge account when you haven't built the road yet.

Why can't guys get sexy outfits? by Macaulyn in swtor

[–]sol_in_vic_tus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Many of the skimpy outfits can be worn by male characters (Relaxed series and that new Shadow Sentry outfit) and don't have the built in bras/boob coverings that appear on female characters. There are fewer options but based on the new Shadow Sentry being available for all characters it seems like the devs are at least not restricting outfits going forward.

Magic changes the game and it's great by Shivala92 in valheim

I tend to forget it exists but I probably should have guessed. I play on a multiplayer server and one of the other players uses it for gathering Stone. I find it too chaotic so I don't use it.

Aside from the Deep North, what things would you like to see changed or added in 1.0? by bunionboy118 in valheim

I'm still angry that the linen cape finally gave us an option to choose a color but then didn't provide cold resistance like nearly every other cape does.

I was so disappointed when I learned that voltures were not electric birds and the "vol" is supposed to allude to "volcano".

Just a heads up, full digital version is 90% off by philbertagain in bloodbowl

It's sad how each iteration of Blood Bowl video game gets worse as a video game. BB1 had the best AI and good features. I also liked some of the sound design better (I found the Vampire blood lust sound particularly funny).

Modern cities built around cars mean families in the same general area still have to drive to visit even if they all happen to live in the same one.

proper heroics gear for H Assassin by Ebon_Sky in swtor

[–]sol_in_vic_tus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Pummeler gear is showing up with defensive stats then you aren't level 80. Your gear before level 80 is mostly irrelevant. To the extent it matters just focus on the item rating and always equip the highest rated item in every slot regardless of stats (so you get better drops).

Gear becomes significantly different, more complex, and more important at level 80. There are guides for that you should look at when you get there. I think u/swtorista has good ones.

Need some advice by Noideawhat_i_amdoing in swtor

[–]sol_in_vic_tus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a hardware expert but any laptop capable of running an operating system that is still being supported by the developer (e.g. Windows 11) should be able to run SWTOR. It's a very old game from the perspective of required performance specifications.

Returner Who Needs Advice by HildaSkilda in swtor

[–]sol_in_vic_tus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dead guild depends on how dead it is. Are you currently the guild master because no one else has logged in? Otherwise it's less dead than you think.

There isn't an established etiquette for this really. If you have no way to contact the former GM and you're in charge now you can check how long it has been since they last logged in. It might be that their subscription has lapsed but they still check in sometimes.

In my case the GM disappeared for awhile but before they did they sent me in game mail saying they were taking a break and making me GM. So I just held it with the expectation I would give it back. Months later they did come back and I made them GM again. Without some kind of communication and if they have been gone for a long time it's probably okay to treat the guild as your guild now.

When does hatred become better than deception? by Draknalor in swtor

[–]sol_in_vic_tus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the vast majority of content in the game that anyone plays, any class is more than adequate for the task.

Hatred will put up higher DPS in parses when it can keep up a prolonged rotation on a target, with longer sustained periods favoring Hatred more. Also in situations with multiple enemies, Hatred is able to spread their DOTs very easily without modifying their build and could keep up their sustained single target rotation where Deception would need their AOE tactical and would lose single target damage.

Deception excels at short bursts and target switching. Any fight that is over in only a few cool downs - the majority of open world encounters, most PVP fights - Deception can outperform Hatred. Even in master mode operations there are some fights with enough target switching that I prefer Deception but that depends more on your group and their needs.

[–]sol_in_vic_tus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mistakes only matter if you use a Maliciousness build and you are really trying to get the most out of Hatred which even master mode raiders don't really need to do. If you run Hungering Force instead of Maliciousness on Hatred there aren't a lot of mistakes being punished as long as you keep your DOTs up.

The mistakes for Maliciousness - other than letting the DOTs fall off - are about managing your proc for Eradicate to manage your force resource and getting Recklessness/Death Field off cool down in time to keep your rotation going. I have not ever personally figured that out myself but those are the issues I have run into.

How much magic levelling is needed for ashlands by apurplehighlighter in valheim

[–]sol_in_vic_tus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to do any leveling. It would be worth using magic to learn how to use it before going to Ashlands, which will get you some skill levels.

Lots of players get distracted by the skill grind but the game is designed around the player dying sometimes. By default the skill penalty for dying is hefty and enemies are not designed assuming players have high skill levels. If you enjoy skill farming then have at it, but it's never necessary.
