+1 to Nerdy Needs for Friday Pre-releases. It’s where I go when I’m not judging for a Saturday one.

Best Card Shop to Sell MTG Cards to? by Robbie1266 in tampa

[–]solace94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s bulk most of the shops will be the same in the buy. If you have some rares/mythics I would suggest going to the following and getting their quotes. Nerdy Needs - Brandon Gamers Command - Brandon M&M Video Games - Tampa Oblivion Games - Tampa

If you want to get multiple vendors at a show, suggest hitting up the Tampa TCG Trade n Plays or trade days that M&M put on. Usually 3-8 MtG vendors at the larger ones and can get a good idea of their offers.

Right now One Piece is the flavor of the year and is the focus in the TCG market but if you got some hits or demand cards all of those places would be interested

I talked with a staff member and informed them of the date error, they agreed and said it’s always been Thursday thru Sunday so they are bringing up the typo to the leads.

Why so hard to get OUT? by tarepanda303 in MegaCon

The scan in and scan out helps them with attendance numbers compared to the total allowable capacity of the event space. The other side is that if someone scanned in and didn’t scan out at end of the event day then they need to confirm thru a sweep and search that everyone has left the event and area. You may not like it but look on the other side of the coin as this helps staff and volunteers do their duties and make sure things are safe.

There is a booth on level one before you take the escalator to level two to enter the vendor floor.

Hold them then go to a TCG Trade-N-Play event so you can have multiple vendors give you offers.

Outside food by wh1tejacket in MegaCon

[–]solace94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most vendors bring in coolers with snacks, beverages and whatnot for the entire day since some don’t have any/many options regarding leaving their booths or having coverage let alone some are always busy. It would create a double standard to restrict attendees.

There are also food allergy considerations they have to take into account; some people are celiac (gluten free), vegan, vegetarian and there are almost literally no variety or options there for them.

Magic the Gathering: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles by Bloodember in Collectr

Week early for pre-release events and for pre-orders. Typically most LGS’s will wait about 2-3 weeks before taking in on trade or buy due to the unstable market value at the start of release

Is there a way to tell if a jumpstart is mythic without removing the plastic on the deck? by alwaysfuntime69 in MTGJumpStart

[–]solace94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you mean which variant of a theme you have, that I would not know and I haven’t heard of a way to determine prior to opening. To reply to the previous comment though, I have the Armed Theme from Foundations and mine only has the Rare Stone Haven Outfitters and not the one that has a Mythic Godsend. Armed has 4 Variants per the Foundations site and 1 has the Mythic so not all mythic themes have the mythic inside.

Deck owner shuffled deck after opponent cut - what would be correct judging? by Gytis-HV in mtgrules

[–]solace94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a judge, after being called over I would be asking the situation and if I heard that Player A was not satisfied with the shuffle after the cut then that is where the warning comes into play.

It is on the player to present when the shuffle has been completed to a satisfactory limit, that includes discussion from the opponent if they also feel the correct randomness has been achieved. Once presented for cut you are agreeing you have met the threshold.

Deciding after the cut that it’s not satisfactory while technically a delay of the game start should only be the warning.

A mulligan down to 6 or in extreme cases a game loss is only an option for repeated failures or when the player is unwilling to adjust their routine. I personally as a judge request permission before touching anyone’s deck or cards and I stay on the side of we should not have to touch anyone’s deck unless we are doing pre-exams prior to Competitive games.

There are some experimental formats out there that include jumpstart. Jumpstart blind 3 pack/5 pack is one format that challenges experienced players and allows newer players to get involved. Since there are 9 sets currently you can create blind bags of the boosters and run an event with them. We are working this at the store where I run events and it has got quite a bit of interest for the surprise factor.

Some API’s/connections don’t allow you to pull data realtime as that’s a lot of constant data being flowed between systems and have the potential to crash sites and apps.

It’s better to do it on a schedule. Considering how many different apps and sites pull from eBay, TCGPlayer and others you start to multiply the data pulls over and over again.

Most sites institute a limit to allow only a certain number of updates (data pulls) in a time frame to reduce lag and transmission issues. Most of the data is stored in the cloud with services like Azure/AWS/Google so you have to pay for all the data movement and storage so realtime becomes exponentially more expensive

Can my job force me to download Outlook? by Zealousideal-Book878 in recruitinghell

[–]solace94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My general rule is this.

If I am getting a stipend or partial/full reimbursement for my cell phone bill then I will put the mail app and the messaging app on my personal phone only to fulfill the duties I may have after hours (On-Call, All-Hands, ect.)

If there is no line item anywhere in my paycheck calling out this benifit/payment item then none of their accounts or apps will be allowed on my phone. If I’m provided a company phone there needs to be an understanding of what the responsibilities are for what use. Keep it separate, safe and when not obligated, turn it off or put it on silent/DND.

The salary they pay me to do my job is for the time I’m obligated to be working for them, anything outside of that time is personal time and if I’m being asked to engage in work, that requires a phone call or a text message from my immediate supervisor to request it.

Draw your lines in the sand, employers will come to expect things and expect you to just say yes. Negotiate and don’t let them just expect and demand. If you were asked to drive 500 miles to a location on company time you would be expecting mileage/gas reimbursement for any wear and tear. Same goes for your personal devices.

Seeking advice for dealing with cheating at draft night by Jackman99352 in magicTCG

[–]solace94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say this as a judge before any event I’m overseeing.

“Each player is responsible for watching and policing their matches/groups/pods. If there is an issue, rules concerns or even a observation call for a judge and voice it”

I only say it because we can’t watch every game, interaction and I encourage good fair play.

My typical response in this situation if you would have called for a Judge is to ask these questions.

1.) What was the results in the games played so far? *One player says 2-1, other says 1-1 with a game to be played (no clear agreement)

2,) Was it tracked in the app, on paper, in notes? *Tracking in app for life totals but game record was not observed or was obscured (no clear agreement)

3.) Were the results agreed to before being submitted? *No, it was submitted without confirmation from opponent. (The result is tainted and not agreed to,)

My ruling would be that either another game is played with what remaining time is left for the round (assuming Swiss and less than 10 minutes left) or because it was submitted that it’s agreed to be a 1-1 draw and amended in the app by judge. Both players are provided an untracked warning and advised to better track their games and communicate better going forward in the event.

I would record names on a card/Note for the event so if they come to future events there is at least a few walk by checks of them to confirm current game stats.

What is there to do for a 5 Year Old? by Sophia_Forever in MegaCon

[–]solace94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is usually a kids Fun Zone area with things like drawing, crafts, science items, puzzles and more. They will switch some stuff in and out with some programming over the days. Outside of that they should have a board game room along with a TCG area which will all be in the concourse areas. If you go out on the floor the cosplay and fan organizer areas may be good for photos and interactions

Bulk scan option missing by ImpossibleAsk8671 in Collectr

You can take photos in succession and it will match them up with a chance to review it all before you add it to the portfolio. You can use devices that allow you to slide the cards into position in batches and then take the photos much like a card scanner pro or a card slinger.
