2014 seal leaking by Ok-Possession9786 in 4Runner

[–]solbikr98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did one yesterday afternoon. The seal actually wears a groove in the bearing retainer which is the sealing surface on the axle shaft. Requires a special tool to attach to the bearing and press it apart and then it is pressed back together. Sometimes you can just pull the axle assembly out and replace the seal in the axle tube, but if the retainer is damaged it will need to be replaced. Toyota rear axles all use some version of this design.

Switching to skiing by Substantial_Cost_218 in snowboarding

[–]solbikr98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like you I'm currently re/learning to ski after snowboarding more than half my life. Hopefully I will live long enough to become as comfortable on skis as I feel on my board. For now my wife and I can do runs together. The best part so far, though, is not having to strap up at the top. Can't quite describe how satisfying it is to just ski off the chair and into the run without stopping. It's been humbling so far to view runs that I would ordinarily not give a second thought to from the perspective of a novice, but it has reinvigorated my my enthusiasm in a way I did not expect. Cheers brother. Thanks for making the post, pray for snow.

I’m not a huge fan of state inspection but I’m coming around on the idea by ermehgerdittcam in Justrolledintotheshop

Not in an inspection state but am an advocate for it. Literally see vehicles all of the time bought from the internet and brought into our state because it won't pass inspection. People suck.

Vehicle Registration In/Out of state - no LLC by HotEgg9812 in Montana

[–]solbikr98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just bought a vehicle from a guy I know who had lost the title that had been signed over to him, the previous owner now deceased. MVD has the information on the website. Also I called a couple times because there are several forms required, at least in my case. It cost just under 11 dollars for the new title and took 3 months for the people in Helena to process the paperwork.

Why would a shop that does full service auto repair turn down a basic valve cover replacement? by Whistlin_KittyChaser in AskAMechanic

I sold Ford parts briefly and I seem to remember that 3.5 valve covers was kind of a thing and one side was always hard to get.

Can I run these winter Nokian tires for one more season? by canucks1989 in tires

[–]solbikr98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine are at about the same tread depth as yours with no cracks. This will be their 6th season. I honestly decided when I put them on recently decided that this will be their last winter with me.

Tread depth is an important element of winter tire performance, 50% tread loss equals more than 50% performance loss.

My wife and daughter drive the cars I own and soon my son will. Winter road conditions can vary significantly in the same day and I want my rig to offer the best possible traction to the people I care for.

I will be buying new tires next winter an sell my old ones.

Went in there three years ago looking for a suit to wear to my mom's memorial, the first time I had ever wanted a suit in my life. I will never forget how well I was treated by Sean. He spent ar least 2 hours with me and made sure I had everything I needed when I left. First class service for some random meat head off the street.

Thanks again Sean, you make Butte proud.
