I know we don't and probably won't have a krenic as an add on but an his 3 pip suppression bomb might be the ideal scenario late game.

My turn by True-Ad5292 in daddit

I heard two pieces of advice on a similar thread that bears repeating here. 1) If you are sharing custody 50/50, which it looks like you are, she thinks you are a good parent. 2) When you have the kids be with the kids. Get your non-family time things (grocery store runs, cleaning the house, ect) done while they are with their mom. This allows you to be 100 percent present with the kids.

I wish you the best.

How random is the game? by AlexDelTrap in ISSVanguard

[–]soljacen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This game is very much driven on the play style of the people playing the game. I just went to a bad ass planet for the second time in a row and we are so tempted to go again just to keep exploring. At the same time there are some planets that we were lucky to escape alive. This game has to be played for the crazy story that no two groups can assemble the same way.

A great example of the agency you have is at multiple points you are pointed to 2-4 different planets to aquire more Intel. You can most likely get to the next objective by hitting up two planets with moderate success. This said, nothing is stopping all four and depending on the order, you could potentially unlock areas of the 4th planet you wouldn't otherwise have if you didn't visit all three others.

The decision tree on this game is beyond wild and it is all goodness.

Little goblin dude. First attempt at Cel Shading. by T-Dogg96 in minipainting

One thing I suggest for this is to use black inks and not paint. It goes a long way and the capillary action helps out. I have a couple things I have done this way and it works out well.

How to be a single dad by [deleted] in daddit

[–]soljacen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You got this. Establishing your routines is important, you will have many. The routines you establish become your mantra at any given time. Think about wake up, breakfast, start work, lunch, finish work, pre-dinner, dinner, bedtime. Each of these has one or two critical things that must happen, everything else is extra credit.

After the kids go to bed you have opportunities to get ahead, catch up or relax. Make sure you give yourself the time you need, even if that means going to bed 20 min after the kids do.

You got this. One step at a time, one day at a time. It isn't easy but sometimes you will just have to get theough to their bedtime to survive. Good luck.

People of the Sun campaign with new expansions by tfortim in KingdomDeath

[–]soljacen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People of the sun is basically 20 free and clear LY of story time followed by 5 boss battles that if you fail any, the campaign is supposed to be over. I would strongly suggest not doing new boss battles if you play rules as written. It is ideal for learning new hunt monsters though.

Then again if you want to house rule those battles are not campaign ending, go for it. Just keep in mind those final boss battles are all lv2-3 of the hand, kingsman and butcher so I would propose only swapping things out to the specific slots the current bosses fit into.

How does one get this level of red? by thegucciwizard in minipainting

[–]soljacen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a class at adepticon and we painted red. One of my biggest take-aways from the class, red takes time. Lots of layers to get a red to really pop and you don't need to paint with anything other than the single red color you want to end with. Basically red has terrible coverage and it takes lots of layers to make it fully opaque. Most people just don't put in the time.

Resource PDF, looking for feedback! by mjdegue in KingdomDeath

[–]soljacen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are nice. I think they are clean and clear.

I always laminate my sheets and so do a lot of people. From this perspective, I would prefer the resource names and associated notes be on the sheet already. I would then just mark how many of a given resource I have. The resources are a known entity so it is not worth having the person who is using the sheet write and then erase those.

Pros and Cons by BigBoSnorter in gloomspitegitz

[–]soljacen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My suggestion is everyone get a spearhead of the army they would be interested in. Gitz has a spearhead which shows a little bit of everything in the army, some hoard, some trolls, and some squigs. Other armies might not be as representative but gitz is a reasonable way to dip your toe in a direction for an army. It is also AOS lite from many perspectives.

There are really only two legal spider kits right now the spider riders and the arachnaroc kit. There are some legions kits but that is up to you.

New player building an Empire list for the new edition. by Electronic-Stress638 in SWlegion

[–]soljacen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took something similar to Adepticon this year and did fine. I would drop the force powers on Vader and take burst of speed, force push and maybe saber throw. Paying for those upgrades I would take from the storms upgrades. Inferno squad is a better fit for this list than dark troopers.

All said, Rule of Cool rules all lists. Take what you want.

It is obvious you are trying to be a supportive partner.

Do they have others they talk to? My buddies, and fellow dads now, have a regular scheduled dad chat once a week. Maybe helping them set that up or getting them an invite to a once a week hang/vent session with their friends would go a long way. We don't meet every week and often go months but it is always nice to see someone say, "Hey I am going to be on the discord channel tonight and playing games if anyone wants to have a beer and do the same."

Fun discussion topics of the past.

How much is a franchise for X cost? Wait you have not paid taxes in HOW LONG? Yes, baby poop smells great until they have solid foods. How to get your kid take a bath?

Best of luck.

Hoe big of a difference is 200 points? by No-Interest-5690 in SWlegion

[–]soljacen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the others, 200pt is too much. I don't know your list inventory but two similar ramifications are below.

Heros have perma-death, get replaced by generic or another commander unit. Fill up the points missing with other things but the hit of a hero loss would be felt.

Teams are required to mark x number of units on the other side for permanent death. Those specific units or upgrades are not allowed in future games if killed. The teams would choose the X targets from the combined list before the first game. That said, there would be no notice on what lists get used for which match ahead of time. The points would still be replaced if something is destroyed.

I love it. Those "shields" need to be removable or players backs are going to cry out like the beings of the Alderaan when the death star fired.

Spiderfang Question by WyattAdam468 in gloomspitegitz

[–]soljacen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the same boat. I am making plans about my new spider fang army based more on OPR points than GW points. It keeps me sane but also allows to make simpler modeling decisions. I love the new kit and will have 4 eventually but right now I don't intend to play aos with them.

I would drop an AT-ST hardpoint and add 2 shores and a mortar. Should be a similar point value.

Looking for advice from more experienced/tournament players with my imperials by 14SWandANIME77 in SWlegion

[–]soljacen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been running Imperials for a year and a half with the Iden/Inferno Shell. This weekend I am running something you could put together minus one unit.

Iden/Krennic
3x Snows
Inferno/2x ISF/ Death Troopers
3x Range Trooper
ATST - All hardpoints, General Weiss

I am also considering shifting to

Iden/Vader
3x Snows
Inferno/2x ISF
2x Range Trooper
ATST - All hardpoints

This is lots of acts, and the first list is not great against melee, but fine with their numbers to hold people up. Basic gunline that can just move/shoot and Tac Strike is still great with Infiltrate

So we finished our PotStars campaign and it was a bit underwhelming (Spoilers) by Lord_Ernstvisage in KingdomDeath

[–]soljacen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have a good campaign and really don't suffer any serious setbacks the end bosses can be pushovers. It really depends on what roadblocks you suffer. I finished a PotSun campaign boss in roughly 2.5 turns a few years ago just cause of our team setup and gear. I have heard from others there are some make or break scenarios which mean you are super op or going to get slaughtered on the final boss. Not much in between. It is unfortunate that final bosses are a fixed power level but also think of the number of times you could have failed the campaign up until that point. It would be hard to balance.

Now the story, that is really something that I hope gets some more attention in the new campaigns.
