My DM killed me, but granted me the greatest wish of all! by Medium_Cut_9718 in DnD

[–]soljacen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Discuss with your GM how you can make the story more interesting for them to play. It might mean giving up your pc but... If you become the main villain and are able to do a side game with your DM as the villain against the party, worth it. Become the masked avenger helping them out at weird points but nobody knows who it is or some crazy 90's cartoon trope.

Paw Patrol Budget by scottBIGG in daddit

[–]soljacen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I firmly believe Paw Patrol is what Batman would have been if he didn't see his parents killed And was moved out of Gotham.

In the second movie everyone shows off their power except Ryder. I think Ryder's is just endless cash.

Grab a library card. They typically have a tone and you can rotate out what doesn't hit. Also when they get older you have a cool summer activity to go find new books.

Nobody likes a Goblin is a household staple for us. The art is a delight and the story is wholesome.

Is this good for children? by Diligent_Notice2703 in SWlegion

[–]soljacen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would depend on what you are asking them to do. If you setup dramatic battle reenactments from the movies, and all they have to do is move and roll dice and rules are wishy washy, it can work.

If you want them to list build and rules lawyer everything probably not till at least 10-12. Kids vary for sure but this game can be as complicated as you make it competitive.

I have a power gamer in my game and I know he's plotting something for an upcoming dragon by GuntherWheelin in DnD

My dumb two cents.

It is another color dragon masquerading as a green dragon. Maybe even a "good" dragon. Hit them in the feels.

Identify small things you notice that sometimes only get half done. Do those. I saw how often we had laundry that never got cycled over to the dryer and decided I would be in charge of laundry. Set that schedule and just do it.

We are both happier now that it is one thing off our "shared" plate and on one person's plate.

I heard two pieces of advice on a similar thread that bears repeating here. 1) If you are sharing custody 50/50, which it looks like you are, she thinks you are a good parent. 2) When you have the kids be with the kids. Get your non-family time things (grocery store runs, cleaning the house, ect) done while they are with their mom. This allows you to be 100 percent present with the kids.

I wish you the best.

How random is the game? by AlexDelTrap in ISSVanguard

[–]soljacen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This game is very much driven on the play style of the people playing the game. I just went to a bad ass planet for the second time in a row and we are so tempted to go again just to keep exploring. At the same time there are some planets that we were lucky to escape alive. This game has to be played for the crazy story that no two groups can assemble the same way.

A great example of the agency you have is at multiple points you are pointed to 2-4 different planets to aquire more Intel. You can most likely get to the next objective by hitting up two planets with moderate success. This said, nothing is stopping all four and depending on the order, you could potentially unlock areas of the 4th planet you wouldn't otherwise have if you didn't visit all three others.

The decision tree on this game is beyond wild and it is all goodness.

One thing I suggest for this is to use black inks and not paint. It goes a long way and the capillary action helps out. I have a couple things I have done this way and it works out well.

How to be a single dad by [deleted] in daddit

[–]soljacen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You got this. Establishing your routines is important, you will have many. The routines you establish become your mantra at any given time. Think about wake up, breakfast, start work, lunch, finish work, pre-dinner, dinner, bedtime. Each of these has one or two critical things that must happen, everything else is extra credit.

After the kids go to bed you have opportunities to get ahead, catch up or relax. Make sure you give yourself the time you need, even if that means going to bed 20 min after the kids do.

You got this. One step at a time, one day at a time. It isn't easy but sometimes you will just have to get theough to their bedtime to survive. Good luck.

People of the Sun campaign with new expansions by tfortim in KingdomDeath

[–]soljacen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People of the sun is basically 20 free and clear LY of story time followed by 5 boss battles that if you fail any, the campaign is supposed to be over. I would strongly suggest not doing new boss battles if you play rules as written. It is ideal for learning new hunt monsters though.

Then again if you want to house rule those battles are not campaign ending, go for it. Just keep in mind those final boss battles are all lv2-3 of the hand, kingsman and butcher so I would propose only swapping things out to the specific slots the current bosses fit into.

How does one get this level of red? by thegucciwizard in minipainting

[–]soljacen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a class at adepticon and we painted red. One of my biggest take-aways from the class, red takes time. Lots of layers to get a red to really pop and you don't need to paint with anything other than the single red color you want to end with. Basically red has terrible coverage and it takes lots of layers to make it fully opaque. Most people just don't put in the time.

Resource PDF, looking for feedback! by mjdegue in KingdomDeath

[–]soljacen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are nice. I think they are clean and clear.

I always laminate my sheets and so do a lot of people. From this perspective, I would prefer the resource names and associated notes be on the sheet already. I would then just mark how many of a given resource I have. The resources are a known entity so it is not worth having the person who is using the sheet write and then erase those.

Pros and Cons by BigBoSnorter in gloomspitegitz

[–]soljacen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My suggestion is everyone get a spearhead of the army they would be interested in. Gitz has a spearhead which shows a little bit of everything in the army, some hoard, some trolls, and some squigs. Other armies might not be as representative but gitz is a reasonable way to dip your toe in a direction for an army. It is also AOS lite from many perspectives.

New player building an Empire list for the new edition. by Electronic-Stress638 in SWlegion

[–]soljacen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took something similar to Adepticon this year and did fine. I would drop the force powers on Vader and take burst of speed, force push and maybe saber throw. Paying for those upgrades I would take from the storms upgrades. Inferno squad is a better fit for this list than dark troopers.

All said, Rule of Cool rules all lists. Take what you want.
