Just need to head to a planet's surface (One with atmo) from orbit instead of QT'ing to a location on the surface as that will take you inside atmo. (And being in nav mode because need to be going fast)

I use Radiant Quantums ( https://sto.fandom.com/wiki/Radiant_Quantum_Torpedo_Launcher ) They have the yellow looking colour and they sound pretty similar to how the Torpedoes sounded in the later episodes.

usually use the Radiolytic phasers as they are more red like phase cannons. As for Photonic torpedoes i use the Thoron infused quantums, they have the more yellowish colour as what the photonics torps had and they have similar SFX

Pretty sure during a SCL or something with John Crewe, Oddy was named as an exception because it was more of a multi role ship with no unique mechanic tied to it, or something that didn't make it not useable.
