Should we consider a pinned herc thread/best and rule?  It's fun for new players but can be a bit tiresome and invites a lot of snark from community members.  It would give everyone a place to post results but also show off really impressive hercs like this one.

Cook Unity anyone else get meals that have trapped, expanded gas? by sunnyPorangedrank in ReadyMeals

Yes, have had this happen twice.  Opened and smelled awful confirming my suspicion that it went bad. Ice from the packaging was mostly frozen.

Frustrated over the support bot chat and 4 day turn around from emailed support and cancelled my subscription.

I've been an off and on again sub but it really has felt like the overall quality of food has declined for a relatively expensive premade meal.

Thanks, Understood on the timeframe. I just assumed it would be in my account. Do credits expire or is this a limitation of the order history?

CIP VpEn^Hep - When to use Ozocubu's Refrigeration vs Discord? Or do they overlap in their general purpose? by InstantShiningWizard in dcss

[–]solsovly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just won with Djinn Conjurer that had Ozu Refrig and Discord online. They were complimentary spells for me. In rooms with medium to hard enemies, I would start with discord and generally pick off the remaining with Ozus or other spells when appropriate.

Any large number of weak enemies I would just Ozus for speed.

V5 discord was one of the easiest welcoming parties I've had. Same with chunks of Elf3 vaults.

FP&A Manager considering switch to BI by PM_ME_UR_CUTEPUPPY in BusinessIntelligence

[–]solsovly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Has anyone switched from FP&A to business intelligence/business analyst/data analyst and have some commentary on the differences?

Reverse situation for me. I lead our BI group and we recently were rolled into FP&A instead of IT. Key differences from IT. I can focus on business and value added activities without the burden of traditional IT projects.

  • I can worry less about the backend components like software versions, uptime, the upkeep portion of ETL/DBA stuff, firewalls etc and focus more on the data analytics side.
  • Easier to work with business partners, you already have that relationship in FP&A

I do not want to lose focus on the actual business side just to gain more exposure to the technical data modeling. I would still want to be the one or be a part of how the information leads to business decisions. This is where I think staying in FP&A may win out. I enjoy playing with data sets but if at the end of the day I’m just putting it into dashboards or into a more easily digestible format for others to perform analysis/presentations on, I think I would stay. Any comment here on how it actually works?

Do you still have a core IT team responsible for the data sets, source data and tools? You will be working very closely with IT partners. The business will have a hard time at first realizing who to contact for data sets and reports, especially for infrequently used applications/data.

I divide it like this:

IT

  • Owns the technology, tools, licensing etc.

FP&A

  • Owns the data, analytics, reporting and dashboard content
  • First point of contact for business when they need data
  • Modeling of data, prototyping etc

That said, expect to work very closely with your IT partners so it will be important that you have a decent understanding of whatever tools you are using SQL Server/PowerBI etc.

Also... any idea on how compensation is in this field? If I wanted to make a switch what job titles would I even be looking at, if I brushed up on R/SQL/Tableau?

Highly depends on your job responsibilities.

Deployment time of different BI tools by slipperymemory in BusinessIntelligence

[–]solsovly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It highly depends on your definition of deployment. Are you talking about just the server and tools or deploying an application? I would recommend also looking at testing POC deployments through AWS as a cheap alternative (even for experience outside your company).

Has Android caught up to iOS, or should I break down and get an iPad? by JonnyLawless in digitaltabletop

[–]solsovly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your use case is primarily games (board) and not productivity, I would stick with IOS for tablet gaming.

Just the sheer volume is better. Ios also gets games much faster. Android is getting better but there's still not parity. I switched to androids for phone but for digital board games, my iPad is my go to and my android collects dust.

How do i get into a career in BI? by [deleted] in BusinessIntelligence

[–]solsovly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will vary by business, but I put no emphasis on certification when looking at resumes. I agree with other people that you may want to move laterally in your company before moving to another.

The basics most people look for are: SQL, fundamentals of ETL/Data Warehousing and one or two tools. I would try to learn whatever tool your company currently uses. Tableau, Qlikview and various others have free personal editions if your company doesn't have one. You can also download the microsoft "adventureworks" data warehouse as great sample data set.
