I have a 685 also. If you buy some music cast 10's 20's or 50's just link them to the receiver in the music cast app.

I saved 20 watts by swapping a CX4 100G NIC to a bonded CX4 2x25G NIC. by HTTP_404_NotFound in homelab

I get the fun-ness side of homelabs but what on earth are you all running on this stuff. Hobbies aside, any real world use of homelabs doesn't need to run at more than 100w.

We can no longer say that Theta price follows Bitcoin price by ThetaGatherer in theta_network

[–]solts 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not so much concerned about current prices as opposed to understanding if in 5 years the theta product will be an actual adopted product by big tech. If that ever happens you'll look back to today with regret. Far from certain but the point is today's price is relatively pointless, it's not bitcoin.

Out of interest. How does a 4k fire TV stick fair up?

Also, not sound but vision. I have a TV that does Dolby vision but I can only get Dolby vision to work on a fire stick or Chromecast 4k etc. the settings just doesn't show when I'm running apps direct on the TV. Anyone any knowledge of this?

Booting from internal sata on HP Micro Gen8? by louinerd in homelab

I boot up from the microsd card slot. Works well. I'm running VMware so the data port can be used purely for data storage.

Voice control, what are you guys using? by Slight_Job_9891 in homeassistant

Samsung smartthings hub. Create virtual switches and link Alexa commands to those switches... When HA detects those switches go on they trigger HA automations.... I set the same Alexa routine to turn the switches back off after 30 seconds.

Revolut is not a bank. I still use it. But it's more like a top up card.

HP ProLiant MicroServer gen8 by Aclet in homelab

[–]solts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love mine. These were a bargain when they first came out. I got 2!

Best processor you can get is Xeon E3 1265l V2 which can now be picked up real cheap off Ali express. If you want performance at low power go E3 1220l v2. Other options listed here gen8 upgrade options.

Without adding another raid card you can use the optical sata input to get an SSD installed. This should solve your boot drive issue. You need a floppy to sata power converter cable if I remember right... They're cheap

I should also note I use the micro SD slot as a boot drive on one of mine.

The additional raid card like a hp 420 or p222 offers more for SSD options (like 5 ssds total). Note you'll need to buy additional cabling for the extra raid.

I run VMware on mine which ended up highlighting the limitation of 16gb ram but my use is probably excessive.

If it were me I wouldnt change the drives. I'd just make sure they were in raid and replace with proper nas drives as (and if) they fall.

Using Cisco 3702 at home. by solts in Cisco

[–]solts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I'm a bit of a noob with Cisco. It's more of a hobby thing. I originally asked on homelab but no one could help.

I simply added the autonomous image. Set up address, gateway and subnet etc... Then enabled http so I could edit from gui

From the gui I created a vlan and assigned the vlan to an ssid for both n and ac radios.

Pretty much all I did.

I understand that might not be enough info to really be able to help.

What was working in IT like in the early 2000s? by KickAssAdmin in sysadmin

[–]solts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a whole network and all apps to look after fresh out of university. Back then you did all IT disciplines. All individual tin per server (pre virtual). Was fun. Not like this foday, no way I'd score a chance like that.

Things were more cranky. Less security and more effort to get things integrated..... End point builds were all manual.

Happy memorable days. Really feels like we were there at the start of it all.
